Cardiff City away match thread

Recommended Posts

I think Cardiff played better and threatened more the opposition's area, whereas we had our moments with less but clearer chances. Our play seems generally slower, partly for Cardiff defensive work but probably for fatigue too: worried about Williams injury (one of those I'd have rested).

We need Mehmeti and Scott to up their game and to freshen the team after a while to keep energies high.

They don’t look like a side that’s struggling, decent on the ball and strong, albeit not created too much. For stats fans we’re 2nd in the first half table and Cardiff are bottom, second half they’re 18th and we’re 20th, so on form we’ve missed our best opportunity. Not many having great games, we’ve defended resolutely, but need to do better with possession and being strong with second balls. Assume the theory is Wells comes on against tiring centre backs after Bell has run them around, don’t mind that theory, would just worry a little about Sam’s confidence. Overall, even at half time a pretty fair reflection and not surprising we look a little lacklustre after Tuesday.

That's interesting - and probably a good example of some issues with xG models.

They tend not to take into account how many and where defenders are. Many of them are quite basic or it could take days to work it out I guess.

Now that Scott is playing next to James, the likelihood that he picks up a booking has certainly increased. Bringing on the promising, yet extremely inexperienced OTC, so we could move Scott back to the number 10 position, would be a huge gamble by NP.

With Williams likely to be out for a lengthy spell, we can’t really afford to loose Scott to suspension for the next 2 matches. From what NP said in the prematch presser, they don’t want to rush Naismith back to quickly, probably first match after the upcoming international break.

Decisions, decisions!
