IF that isn't the case and they do not know how long he will take to recover, they could also say that. No one's asking to see his medical notes. Pearson said in his last pre match presser that he didn’t know how long he would be out. Personally not convinced we need a daily update. If it's as serious as is being suggested here, but they do not know the precise timeframe, something like "McCrorie faces a substantial period on the byline because of an infection" would suffice. "I don't know when he's back," could mean he's back next week.

As for the rumour that he’s out for the season, who knows where that came from - may have come from a bloke on Facebook! Seems unlikely that anyone knows if no definite decision made on treatment yet (op or no op). Edited August 26, 2023 by eardun
Shauntaylor85
An incredibly upsetting situation for both the player and club. I was very much looking forward to seeing his high energy approach. Really hope it isn’t overly serious and the rumours are not true re season end.

Like you and many others, I was looking forward to see if McCrorie would live up to expectations and help the team to progress substantially this season. If they don’t know what difference does it make if an arbitrary timescale is put on it or a non-descript timescale such as substantial (how long is that?) and what difference does it make to us as fans? I would imagine the club are more concerned about the player welfare than consulting medical journals to inform us about the timeframe he’s possibly going to be out?

They will be, and as I say, no one is demanding they know confidential medical details about players, but we've quite often only had networks of rumours and supposedly ITK posters to find out if injury absences are going to be short-term, very long term or whole season out. @eardun reminded me that the club doesn't yet know if surgery is needed, so the uncertainty about how serious this infection is in this case may be understandable. If we do know he'll be out for the season I'd - as a fan - quite like to be told, rather than relying on the rumour mill.

Looking at the list of players to return in the next 8-10 weeks, I can see why the club might be asking him to shuffle the pack and give some of the youngsters minutes until those players start to become available too. A squad that contains Weimann, Benarous and Conway would look a lot stronger, Atkinson may be available by Xmas too.

Because there were other treatment options. And if they'd been successful, his recovery would have been quicker. It's what medication was invented for! Surgery was the last resort because we no longer live in the Middle Ages.
