An example of their application is quantum mechanics and climate modelling, which involve a huge array of complex calculations. All that's being done here is predicting scores of a football match. The scores are being randomly generated, that's all. This has probably been copied over from a Football Manager game, and done on a PC in his bedroom. A bit of fun perhaps but it means nothing.
