Jerseybean
Just noticed my morning cuppa as I write this (see photo) not a good choice of mug, was it! Kick off is 2pm on Sunday and has been selected for live overseas broadcast. We have an allocation of 8,924 tickets, which sold out! Prematch prep: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/video/training/robins-uncut-083-preparations-for-west-ham/ Here’s a little FA Cup quiz, https://www.joe.co.uk/sport/football/the-ultimate-fa-cup-quiz-379733 David Moyes made 83 appearances for us between 1985–1987. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/david-moyes-bristol-city-wembley-9016121 Liam Manning was head coach of their under 23’s from 2015-19. Head to head we have won 7, lost 17 and drawn 11. Last time we played them they knocked us out of the FA Cup in the fourth round in January 2015 highlights: https://youtu.be/als9CeS9d94 We will be without Sykes. As for them, “Vladimír Coufal, Kurt Zouma, Lucas Paquetá and Michail Antonio are being assessed and we’ll assess them after training on Saturday and make a decision after that.” West Ham snippets One of the most glorious days of British football was when England won the World Cup back in 1966. Three of the Hammers were part of the national team that returned with the trophy. The three winners were Martin Peters, Bobby Moore, and Geoff Hurst. If you are a younger fan, you might not know about these players. However, all you need to know is that Hurst scored a hat-trick in that final, securing the World Cup trophy for England. They have won the FA Cup three times (1964, 1975 and 1980) and been runners-up twice (1923 and 2006). The first FA cup final that took place at Wembley Stadium (which was called Empire Stadium back in the day) was in 1923, and the Hammers made it to the very end. However, they did not manage to win the cup, losing to Bolton Wanderers 2–0. One of the things that made this final memorable is that the number of spectators who attended the game was about 200,000. At that time, the maximum possible capacity of the stadium was 127,000! In the 1964 FA Cup Final side there were seven players whose surname began with the letter “B” They were: Ken Brown, John Bond, Jack Burkett, Eddie Bovington, Peter Brabrook, Ronnie Boyce and Johnny Byrne. In fact around that era there were also Peter Bennett, Dave Bickles, Jimmy Bloomfield, Martin Britt and Dennis Burnett. Ryan Fredericks and Nicky Maynard played for them and us. There have been seven sets of brothers who have played first team football for West Ham. Their nicknames, the Irons and the Hammers, derive from their association with the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, whose workers formed Thames Ironworks F.C. West Ham United F.C. played at the Boleyn Ground in nearby Upton Park between 1904 and 2016. They are one of only eight clubs in existence never to have fallen below the second tier of English football, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. Brian Charles Dear, who was called Stag by West Ham fans, managed to break one of the club’s records by having scored five quickest goals ever. It only took him twenty minutes to achieve this in a game against West Brom back in 1965. He was paid £4 that game: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6327311/Brian-Dear-scored-five-20-minutes-got-80p-goal.html They have scored 10 goals in a match on three occasions: Chelsea away 10-3 in a League South match in March 1940, Clapton Orient at home again 10-3 in the League South in January 1943 and finally Bury at home 10-0 in a League Cup tie in October 1983. They are currently sixth in the Premiership with 34 points from 20 games. Pubs The best chance City fans have of grabbing a drink is at the ground itself. Stratford isn’t exactly blessed with pubs, and fans in colours will struggle to be granted access to The Bat and Ball and The Cow, which is a shame, as they’re both good options. The London Stadium is decked out with plenty of food and drink options though, and does more than enough to accommodate fans on match days. Sadly, Hackney Wick’s Crate brewery used to be a good option for football fans in colours, until they announced a clampdown back in 2016. COYR Same here, although my head is not particularly thinking along the lines of a cup upset. However, regardless of the result almost 9k of us should be able to make a din and leave an impression. Maybe songs referring to the east end might get them a bit confused. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
HOZDA
Another great write up, Jerseybean. I have been anticipating this match for a while now, as this fixture has close connections with me, so thought I'd write and share my own personal account. I'll be attending the game. However, sat in the home end! My old man, who is also coming, is a West Ham fan. His story was around the ages of 10-11, he received his first "proper" leather, black & white football as a present, and took it everywhere with him. He just so happened one day to come across the legendary Geoff Hurst inside a sports shop, who was playing for West Ham at the time (not long after the '66 world cup) and he signed my dad's football! Henceforth igniting his commitment and support to the club! Despite being a WH fan, my dad would regularly attend Ashton Gate when he worked in Bedminster. He would also take me to matches when I was a bit older. He never pushed me to support WH like him, and despite placing my loyalties to Bristol City (no regrets ), he still happily comes along to City matches when we go down together. I've only watched this fixture live once before, at Ashton Gate, in 2012. Game finished 1-1. I was behind the goal where Skuse scored the equaliser and I remember my dad clapping, but muttering displeasure towards Rob Green in goal for not saving the shot! I also believe Maynard was playing that game for WH, as well as a young Henri Lansbury! I've also only once visited Upton Park, prior to it's demolition. A good, atmospheric, old school stadium. This will be both mine and my dad's first visit to the London Stadium, so we are both very excited being a great opportunity to see our respective teams. Although it can be viewed to some as contentious supporting "more than one team", but due to the above, if asked, I'd have to pick West Ham as second. I'm sure my dad would say the same about us/City I'll be sat near the corner by the City fans. Can't wait for the game and hearing the voices of 9k City fans. Excited to see how we do against prem opposition, and also with VAR in play! Safe journey to travelling fans. Enjoy. And COYRs 12 Quote Link to comment

Kid in the Riot
It's been pointed out this is our biggest away following probably since 1977. Now it's sold out at 60k+ it must also be the biggest crowd we've played in front of outside a final for a long while too... 3 Quote Link to comment

I'm pretty sure we didn't have over 9k there (I was at Anfield) so it's the biggest (apart from finals as you say) since Highfield Road I would think. Quote Link to comment

I would say I was surprised at 60k+ but £10 a ticket gets a lot of arses off the sofa. If it was £20, would it make 45k ? Quote Link to comment

FNQ
Added incentive… if we don’t get a result against the Hammers this will be the first time for a very long time that the sags would be included in a next round draw in the FA or EFL cup where we have missed out. Now I know that they’re used to that level of disappointment but we’re not. WHU 1 BCFC 1. Quote Link to comment
