Admin Ian M Posted March 25 Admin Report Share Posted March 25 Presenter: "I think you only need 3 maybe 4 players and this team could really go places" re: going to Manning style football. However, with departures that still leaves us with a paper thin squad. And for those 3 or 4 players to turn us into a team that can dominate opponents in possession terms they need to be best in division type players and those aren't "100 games in League One" types, they cost £5m plus, each.
Mr Popodopolous
Keep hearing here not just on here or this show.."Big physical 9". Yes and no. IMO. Does that fit "Manning ball"? Seems a bit mix and match.. 3 penalties and 1 own goal in our favour under Manning..what was the comparable under NP? Mr Popodopolous
Just checked. Under NP- 15 goals, 14 games. Fleming- 1 goal, 1 game. Manning- 28 goals, 23 games BUT 3 penalties and 1 own goal. Weighted for that 24 from 23..about the same if not proportionally worse.

Isn't goals conceded worse despite club apologists claiming Liam has tightened us up?

I haven't honed in on that side but yes most likely. Underlying numbers certainly seem to be.

Technically, but imo not meaningfully. Pearson was on 16 in 15 this season; 1.14 p/g Manning on 29 in 23; 1.26 p/g It's really a very small difference considering you can't actually score part of a goal. General shots against and shots on target against are basically the same. xG against is actually slightly better under Manning. Edit: also, it is deteriorating under Manning. Over his first few games it did appear that we'd tightened up a little at the back, but it's gone downhill in recent games. It has been 23 games in the League, are we measuring in all competitions or? That was my initial.

I think it’s fair to assume when someone in Tinnion’s position gives a stat it’s correct I'd agree, however it's Tinnion, so it's unlikely to be correct either innocently through his own misunderstanding or him manipulating. It's probably more likely the first, though. Edited March 25 by Randy Marsh II 2
Mr Popodopolous
NP 16 goals, 14 games Fleming 0 goals, 1 game Manning 29 goals, 23 games. In respect of penalties and own goals conceded. The Dickie one was ridiculous and self-inflicted v Watford btw. 5 penalties conceded, 2 own goals. Of those 5 penalties, 4 were converted. I mean he told us we beat Southampton 3-0, must be right.............. 5

As far as I know, Del doesn’t post on here so not sure of the relevance. Maybe he didn’t read Piercy’s bit. Agreed that Tinnion is either a bullshiter or stupid
