Whats the best tactic which people have had success with?

I think ive tried every tactic in the game and I'm only midtable after 20 games, some games i can be amazing and win easily, but other games i just cant win for the life of me. :disapointed2se:

To be honest my tactics are just a basic 4-4-2

I Set Centre backs to centre back tactics, full backs to full back tactics!!! (SHOCK)!!

Set left/right midfielders to winger tactics and have one Cm as an attacking mid, and the other set as defensive mid.

Worked for me, went up through the play offs

My team was:

Basso/ Weale

Aliou Cisse, Carey, Fontaine/ lucketti, McCallister

Murray/ Artus, Lee jonson/ Noble (am), Doherty/ Skuse (Dm), Myrie-Williams

Showumni/ Brooker/ Jevons, Jonh Sutton

After getting promoted i have got rid of Basso, Weale, McCombe and just sold L Jonson to birmingham for £775,000!!

Ive signed two quality keepers for £0 - ill put names if people want?!?!

signed Cristian Vieri on a free!!! not that good though and also on MEGA wages!!

I have chelsea as my parent club and have some irish team Finns mead or sumut like that and Port Vale as my feeder club, with first option on both teams players! So currently have 9 players out on loan!!

Only have two problems at the moment:

Currently only have 1point from 4 games in the championship and also John Suttons being a real awkward bugger, asking for transfers, moaning when i sell players (L Jonson, McCombe), rejecting contract offers and then Complaining when i offer him to clubs to make some money out of him!!!

3 games in 3 wins. Lincoln are my feeder club and Spurs my parent club. I have only bought in Sutton, Jansen and a right back all on free's.

Beat Bradford 1-0 away, Brooker getting the goal

Beat Huddersfield 1-0 at home, Murray who has been great with the goal.

Beat Oldham 2-0 at home, Sutton getting his first goal for the club and MacAllistair from the spot.

So far so good but we shall see, my tactic is nice and tight as you can probably tell and Basso has been really good in goal.

Got the game yesterday and started playing it this morning. Parent club is Arsenal and Feeder team is someone Irish that I always forget the name of. Won all my friendlies except for FC Bayern who beat me 2-1.

My main problem is that I always seem concede stupid goals too much, anybody else had this problem? My top scorer at the moment is JMW with Mc Allister getting the most assists. Can anyone reccomend any tactics/players that will get me out of League One? I have a large problem with the wings, I have found Scott Brown is not adequate as a left winger and Scott Murray is getting on a bit. Anyone know any good Wingers that I can get for cheap?

After a crap 1st season, I think I may now be in with a chance of getting somewhere..

I have decided to go with the tactic of 4-4-2 for every home game and mainly 4-1-4-1 for the away games, especially for the games where my scout say's that the opposition has a striker that likes to drop off the front for the ball.

I also go with tight marking and hard tackling on their CM, closing down and showing on to weaker foot for their wide midfielders and tight marking and showing onto weaker foot for their strikers.

I'm currently 2nd, 2 points behind Gillingham after 17 games and in comparision to my 1st season, I'm absolutley flying, I hated my 1st season after starting it over about 3 times!!

Best players for me............

Joel Porter - brought in 1st season for £70k from Hartlepool.

Lee Wilkie - got on a freebie while injured.

Didier Agathe - brought from Aston Villa for £50k at the start of 2nd season, solves the right back / right midfield problem.

Colin Kazim-Richards - On loan from Sheffield Utd for the season.

Still having fairly much the same problems as most people, scoring goals!! Only got 23 from 17 games but that's still put me 4th in the highest goal scoring!!

And having conceeded 11, that puts me 5th best there.

Having now got to 1st in the league at the start of January, Mr Lansdown has informed me that he would like me to get the profile of the club up and to help me do this, he will back me in the transfer market as long as it doesn't put the club in the red over-all....... Top man.

Only one slight problem, I am currently some £13k over my wage budget and although I am getting transfer fees agreed, he's only letting me offer in the region of £150 p/w for players that I'm looking at spending in excess of £1m on!!

Don't think anyone is coming to me on those sort of peanuts

While Carlise and Bradford have both been taken over by mega-rich business men who have given each of them over £28m to spend on players :disapointed2se:

Cheers Mr Lansdown :grr:

Oh yeah, 2 games after my 1st post, Joel Porter got injured and is now at the specialists for 5 months!!

With-in a couple of day's, I have managed to sign Tyrone Mears from West Ham on a Free and Mr Lansdown is now in love with me for signing such a high profile player :rofl2br:

This is getting a little bit too life like for my likings

Got promoted first season then got relegated the following season! But didnt get sacked so i'll take them up again.

Good players......Artus - his stats arnt great but gets high average ratings and gets quite a few goals from the wing, much better than Murray.

Also sell Jevo asap whilst hes got a high value. He's as bad on the game as he is in real life. Scores plenty for the reserves but cant find the net in the first team.

I stopped enjoying being City, so resigned.

Applied for any job that came up, Burton Albion in the Conference North first one offered, accepted.

When I joined they were 11th, but hadn't won in 12. Around 15 games to go, finished ninth. It's ferking hard! Tried playing good football down the wings, but didn't work. For the last 4 games I signed John Murphy and Steve Torpey and played long balls in a 3-4-3. Won 3, drew 1, each of those 2 scoring 4 in 4.

Now going to try to get promotion next season

I am currently having my worst ever season in any FM game. 22 games into the league season and i havent managed to get above 19th since the second game of the season. I'm currently lying in 22nd in the league, although the team are getting their act together now.

I have only made 4 signings - Malky Mackay (D C), Khalilou Fadiga (AM L/C), Chris Neal (loan) GK and Ryan Lynch (loan) D/WB/M L.

In the first few months we were truly atrocious, the defending and goalkeeping (Basso) was especially woeful. The only positive was that we were scoring a lot of goals as well as conceding. Jevons was working well with Stewart and Murray was playing well. Unfortunately, no-one is scoring in any great numbers now its December. The current league position isnt too bad, as there is only 8 points between 22nd and 9th, and i'm a good 10 points ahead of Cheltenham and Port Vale.

Somehow, we have been much better in the cup than in the league. Defeated Gillingham on penalties in the League Cup after a 2-2 draw. COuldnt win in 120 minutes despite the fact Danny Cadamarteri was sent off after 20 minutes. Amazingly beat Birmingham in the next round 1-0 away from home (1st clean sheet of the season). Liverpool then beat us 1-0 at home. I'm still in the Johnstone's Paint and FA Cup. The only real highlights so far is the 1-0 win at Birmingham, mauling Cheltenham 4-0 at home, and gubbing Yeovil twice (FA cup and League) away from home.

I got Kasper Schmicheal(sp) on loan from Manchester City, just finished January first season and still in the top two, a bit up and down though but have not been out of the top 3 all season and am still in the fourth round of the cup with a reply against Preston that will see us play Arsenal or Watford away if we get through.

My first choice squad looks like this.

Kasper

Carey

McCombe - Has been amazing.

Fontaine

MacAllistair

Murray - Just signed new one year contract has been great.

Johnson/Noble - One from the two depending on form.

Russell

Williams/Brown

Enoch - Been injured a lot but Jevons is able replacement.

Brooker - 14 goals so far.

Just won the league in my first season by 2 points. Vito Mannone has been awesome all season between the sticks, I will definitely be looking into getting him on loan for next season as well. Setting Showunmi to a target man was the best decision I made, he had the most; Assists, MOM's and the highest average rating. Jevo was my top scorer with 30 goals, Showumni was just behind with 27. I also signed Brian Stock on a free because he left Preston with a mutual termination, he has only played two games but he has been great thus far.

Can anybody reccomend any players/ tactics that will help he in the Championship?

I've just got to the halfway point of the league in the first season.

Record so far is P23, W13, D5, L6, F35, A22, Pts 44. I'm currently 2nd in the league 1 point behind Doncaster. It's pretty close at the top as Swampsea are 3rd on 43, Scunnie 4th on 43, Millwall 5th on 41 and Forest are 6th on 39.

Been a mixed bag in the cups so far. We've got Dagenham & Redbridge in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Lost to Man City in the third round of league cup and lost to Brighton in the 2nd round of the Johnstone's Paint Pot.

Perm transfers in -

Eddie Stanford D/AM L, £22K from Sandecja.

Matt Jansen AM LC / FC, free.

Paul Brooker AM R, £55K from Brentford.

Marc Kalenga DM, free.

Perm transfers out -

Dave Partridge to Oldham for £45K.

Alex Russell to Chesterfield for £1K.

Loans in -

Matt Connolly DC, Arsenal.

Vito Mannone GK, Arsenal.

Marc Elston STR, Arsenal.

(Arsenal are my parent club).

Loans out -

Brown, Walsall.

When everyone is fit my first choice 11 is -

Basso

Orr-Carey-Fontaine-McAllister

P Brooker-Skuse-Johnson-Jansen

Jevons-S Brooker

These are the my top goalscorers so far -

Jevons 13, S Brooker 7, Johnson 5, Benyon 4, Elston 4.

My main assist men are as follows -

Johnson 9, S Brooker 8, Jansen 5, P Brooker 5, Skuse 4.

I've not tweaked the tactics or training at all and have just stuck with the defaults. In terms of formation I play a standard 4-4-2 with the wingers pushing on. If trailing in a game I go to a 3-4-3.

Had a lot of bad luck / problems with injuries so far. At some point in the season all the following have been out for at least 1 or 2 months - Orr, Carey, McAllister, Skuse, S Brooker, Showumni (who seems very injury prone and has hardly played all season). Latest hammer blow is Jevons being out for 2 to 4 months.

I've tried to get Marcus Stewart off the wage bill but to no avail. I can't even give him away. I've tried playing him but he gets a bad rating and doesn't score despite having decent stats (especially for finishing).

Getting in loan players seems to be a real issue. The only team who will lend me anyone is my parent club.

By the way has anyone else noticed how the subs now warm up during the game ?? It's a nice touch and one of many new features on the game which is a great improvement over FM06.

BRISTOL CITY FC, LEAGUE 1 2006/07 THE STORY SO FAR....

Well after 2 mamouth sessions on friday and sunday night (up till 3 both nights!) and a couple of hours monday night, i'm well into my City go. I've got to say my favourite bit about the new game has to be the revised scouting. Not only the in depth reports on players and the fact that the more the scout watches them the more they know. But the scouting of teams makes you feel that you can divise a plan to beat teams and cancel out the way they play. Can't say that i've mastered it yet, but it does make me feel more involved in the teams set up and ultimetly the final result. Anyway to the game itself.....

I eventually got some players to join me, one on loan and one on a permanent deal. First off Joe Hart a promising young keeper from Man City who had yet to make a first team apperance. And he arrived in the nick off time as my 1st choice keeper Basso picked up a injury after just 3 games which has kept him out for 15 games. After a nervy 1st few games Hart has played well. The other signing was of right winger Belmadi. A algerian international from Southampton reserves. He turned down an intitial loan move but signed when a 22k deal was sorted out. He's 30 and is there to give Murray some competition. I've also had more internationals at the club. Former birmingham midfielder Alliuo Cisse and Chris Sutton have both spent time on trial but were allowed to leave as i didn't feel they were any better than what i had but would both demand more on wages. Remember, i'm trying to balance the books here to, which i'm proud to say i'm doing. The club has made a profit at the end of each month so far.

So to the games and we had a good start to the season winning both my opening games at the seaside. Blackpool 1-0 and Bournemouth 2-0. The 2nd game saw Steve Brooker notch his first and only goal so far this season. My 1st points were dropped at Northampton, Showumnini scoreing a brace in a 2-2 thriller. Then came 2 home games, Brighton and then MK Dons in the Carling cup. Both i'm afraid to say didn't go to plan. We lost 1-0 to Brighton in front of my biggest crowd of the season (14,788) on Harts debut then after a 1-1 draw in normal time a late MK Dons freekick was enough to end my Carling cup season.

Then came a patch of 4 draws and two wins from six games, all of which were very tight affairs, the highlight of which was a 1-0 win away at Huddersfield. It was at this point when Cole Skuse influence started to show.

His calm head in midfield has resulted in a very good average rating of 7.89 in an ever present season so far.

A excellent away win at Chesterfield followed with the 3 city goals from 3 unlikley scorers. Bradley Orr from RB, Jaime McCombe from CB and Belmadi on as a sub grabbed there 1st goals for the club in a 3-1 win. That was followed with 2 more draws which left us in 6th place. At this point we had only won two games at home and on 3 occasions when we had a crowd of over 14,000 at the we failed to win. I was starting to worry we had a few nerves developing at home. So when I loaded up the game tonight to see my 1st game was at home to S****horpe with the excellent front pair of Sharps and Andy Keogh, i was a little nervous. But no need, a fantastic hattrick from Phil Jevons and a Showumnini header gave me a 4-0 lead with Billy Sharps getting a late consolation goal for the Irons.

Jevo started where he finished when we arrived at Belle Vue Doncaster with 2 goals in the 1st half . It wasn't all plain sailing though as ex City striker Paul Heffernann had a double at half time too. The game was decided half way through the 2nd when Donny grabbed a winner. If that wasn't bad enough Jevons had to be subbed late on with a groin strain that was likely to rule him out off our next game at home to Nottm Forest !

It was a gamble but with 8 goals so far and 5 of those in the last 2 games i gave Jevons a painkilling injection and even then he was only on 88 % going in to the big game. Forest were 2nd in the table and full of confidence which was dented slightly in the 20th minuate when at a free kick wide on the right, when everyone was excpeting a cross Jaime McAllister rolled the ball to the edge of the box for Alex Russell to fire through the crowd and into the top right hand corner to give City the lead. It was "Aggy's" 2nd goal of the season after he scored on opening day as well. Forest huffed and puffed but the excellent partnership of McCombe and captain Carey kept them in check. Then on 37 mins a fine move evolving Brown, Skuse, Russell and Showumnini saw Belmadi break in to the box for City. The Forest defence all went to him trying to block his shot, but the algerian had great vision to see a City player free on the penalty spot. He guided it back to the number 10 who rifled it past the Forest keeper who was rooted (get it !!! heh heh!) to the spot to give us the 2-0 half time advantage. That man? Yes you guessed it Phill Jevons !!!

The 2nd half kicked off minus my top scorer as I promised to take him off to minimise any further damage to his groin (his Mrs would never forgive me !) Again Forest ran up against a brick wall and we looked dangerous on the break but nether side could muster a goal for the 14,217 crowd inside the Gate. That win lifted us into our highest position of the season into 3rd, 3 points behind Forest and 4 behind leaders Swansea. So my record after 16 league games reads: 7 wins 7 draws and 2 defeats. Not bad after a 3rd of the season, but can we keep it up ?.......

Good reporting Sarge. And i'd like to think you can keep it up. :pinch:

I've now been sacked by Burton  but they only gave me 1 game in the new season! :ranting:

Now, just manager of England, looking for another job. :w00t:

Well I am in the play offs semi final leg 1 against Donny away. 2-0 to them first leg ****ers.

Second leg -

2-0 up at half time thanks to Brooker and Johnson can we finish it?

Johnson makes it 3-0 on 50 minutes come on one more and I think we are through!

Dyer gets one back for them to bring it level with 12 minutes left.

Extra ****ing time.

Our young winger Willams is sent off just before half time of extra time.

http://www.footiethreads.com/forum/showthr...7473&page=4

Young Everton Striker James Vaughen runs onto a head from Enoch and puts it in the back of the net his second goal for us and a very importent one that makes it 4-1 on the day and 4-3 in the tie.

**** SAKE They scored again 4-4.

Pens -

Enoch stands up - Put's it away great start for us 1-0.

Lee for Donny - Roof of the net 1-1.

Vaughen up for us can the youngster do it? - No problem 2 out of 2. 2-1

Price steps up..... - Scores 2-2.

Murray up next - Goal 3-2 to City.

Vetran Dyer - Easy for him 3-3 with 3 pens each.

Hero Johnson stands up - Heart break as it saved. - 3-3.

Gary Roberts for Donny to put them in a great posistion - Easy - 4-3

Skuse must score - easy 4-4.

Sean Thornton to seal the win..... 5-4 and Bristol City are out.

My first season saw me finish 11th. I mainly was around the bottom of the league but after a Johnson-esqe resurgance I got to March only 2 points off the playoffs at one point only to fall away near the end. 7 games into my 2nd season and I have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 1 and am sitting nicely in 2nd place.

My team is: (4-4-2)

Basso - the odd error but mainly quality, saved me many times. Average rating of 7.2

Cisse - (Free transfer) Very steady, gets 7 every game without fail - Wilson is a good backup

Stamford - Cheap foreigner who is good, sold McAllister as he wasnt too hot and needed the money.

Carey - Another Mr Dependable - 7 every game without much fluctuation.

Fontaine - Being chased by Championship clubs, more inconsistent than Carey but average of 7.4

Ledgister - Sold Murray as too old - this kid is quality, average of 7.5 and only 19 I think.

Keogh - DM, 2nd best player in the team. Average of 7.7 and always in the press for his performances

Johnson - poor first season but better this, scored a few and averaging 7.2

Myrie-Williams - I put him as playmaker so he sees a lot of the ball and tell him to go on runs. By far and away the best player in the team. Worth 800k and his goals + assists equal more than 1 per game.

Cadamarteri - Summer signing but not too hot so far.

Showumni - 5 goals in 6 games this season after poor first season, impressive in a game where strikers seem hard to come by.

I've sold Brooker, Stewart, Murray, Partridge, McAllister, McCombe and Russell as weren't cutting the mustard. I don't know if I'm too harsh but I expect an average of over 7 to stay in my first team.

I finished midtable in my first season. Never hit bottom, but spent 1/2 the season just outside of the relegation zone, and was worried the sack was coming.

January saw me bring in many players, Craig Gunn being the star signing and scoring the goals to fire me into midtable with plenty of time to spare. A keeper from Villa also did more than his fair share, so between the two of them they saved me.

The 3 players that kept me going before this were loan signings. A right winger, Gray, from Man U. A center back from Arsenal, Rouge?, and a dm from Man U.

Come the end of the season my side only contained 3 City players, Showummni, Williams and Carey.

In the close season I signed Jason Scotland, a Rm from Bradford (whos name escapes me) and re-igned the Villa loan keeper.

So far after 10 games I'm 2nd.

I finished 2nd in the end whilst still being shit so am bricking it over how early I will be relegated from the Championship.

ive just had that same problem!!!!!!!!

I cant buy a game for love nor money and my side is what i think good!

Casto/ basso

Cisse, Carey, Fontaine, Mcalister/ stanford

Murray/ some spanish guy, Thornton/ sibierski, Doherty/Skuse/ nalis, Myrie Williams

Vieri!!!/ enoch/ Jevons, Some spanish guy/ Brooker/ Benyon

Ive also got, Fabian wilnis, YA kalalmaba (sumut stupid like that- GK from chelsea), 2 loan players from chelsea (MC and DC), orr, Brown, Artus, Wilson, plummer, some spanish guy again (RM) woodman,

lucketti AND Keogh!!!!!

Plenty of players just no quality i guess!

:grr::grr:

I got all my funds from selling, Lee jonson - £775,000 to birmingham, Partridge £50,000, Sutton - £750,000 - WBA, Now Jennison Myrie Williams is banging goals in for England U21's big clubs are sniffing around him, so I'm going to tie him up on a long contract!!!!
