My view is that we panic sacked Holden, he was unlucky.  But I think you are spot on, that we needed “a Nige” (experience) to guide us through this phase.  Ashton not being here is a big help to that too, the spiv.

you too are spot on,someone who knows how it works and not someone whos ego thinks he can do  it better

Oh don't get me wrong, Holden was always the wrong appointment and one that the club should never have made. I just don't think it's fair to make out that Pearson's done a better job than Holden did, because Pearson has had longer to improve things, and even then we've only seen intermittent improvements

would DH have been able to sort out all the off field stuff too? i dont know

Fair enough if you think so but I always find these games tedious. In fact, I don’t really enjoy watching Man City play anyway.

I just don’t find them very exciting to watch. It’s all too slow, it’s as if they are taking the piss.

i got the impression that they were, especially at the back saying 'hey chaps, this is how its done'

Have you seen the size of the bats these days

i havent played since an inter dealer game between clevedon garages and whites of taunton in the 90s. i was bowled second ball so it wasnt big enough then. are they bigger nowadays?  perhaps we could have smaller wickets when its englands turn to bat.

EDIT. just looked up bat sizes and came across this.  why oh why did they change it??

The history of the cricket bat

The earliest cricket bat used was believed to be in 1620 when a batsman hit the fielder with a bat to prevent him from catching the ball. The shape of the bat was thought to be similar to modern hockey sticks since rolling the arm over wasn't yet practised at the time.

Surprisingly in his post match comments Nigel didn’t mention that the likes of Benarous, Towler, Pring, Vyner and even Semenyo are not up to Championship standard despite various OTIB experts clearly stating that to be the case of late. Can it be that he realises with young players there is more inconsistency to be expected and negotiated. As has also happened with Scott, Tanner, Bakinson and Atkinson there will be days when one or another needs to be subbed early because of their lack of experience rather than any harshly judged lack of ability. He has been consistent in doing that when necessary but clearly does not let it put him off selecting them again nor let it affect their confidence.

We have some mighty fine talent emerging this season so perhaps us keyboard warriors need to avoid being too judgmental and instead encourage their development and be proud of the enthusiasm and passion that they bring to our  team.
