  1. Aside from being more polished, I don’t think our media output is any better than when Adam Baker was here.

Interview style is terrible and the social media pages very often fail to read the room.

Barclay, Brown and  Plummer are between 14-20 years ago!!

'One's for the future' also included Vyner, Bell, Conway, Tanner and Pring in our current team and also Scott & Semenyo. Need I go on?

But if signing one of Ireland's leading emerging young talents who is likely to be be knocking on the first team door before very long makes you sick to death then at least it's a consistent narrative.

I think they were being sarcastic and making exactly the same point you are making in your second paragraph

It won't be Westlife. I'm in their main fan club, whilst lead singer for a Westlife Tribute act, and have seen them 53 times. They are touring America this year.

Spice Girls, Cher & Rihanna  are strongly linked to be headlining Glastonbury with one due to be announced soon, so I think it will be one of them three as a warm up. My monies on the Spice Girls as it's their 30th year, and VB has been seen with the girls lately in studios. So they are definitely touring this year, and an announcement is due soon. The Spice Girls at the Gate would be huge.

Rihanna would be ridiculous - can’t imagine we’d get her, she’d be a Wembley/Old Trafford act if doing football stadiums.. would be amazing though.

Was thinking this, looks much bigger in his interview than some of the clips I’ve seen of him!

His body size wouldn’t have changed in a month - but yeah, hope he’s near the first team sooner than later.

  5. Discussion about ex managers is often important context to threads regarding whatever manager is in charge in the present.

I think there’s a place for threads about Tammy Abraham and more historical ex-players to be put in a sub forum.. but the Johnson tenure is still important context to the current situation of the club.

It’s a bit like when a thread that begins to veer off in a mildly political direction gets thrown in ‘non-football chat’ prematurely.

Yep and I suppose what I meant was that it shouldn’t even matter that they don’t know the association as it’s history and Banks is no longer part of the company. So City don’t need to have known anything about Banks and shouldn’t have anything to apologies for or backtrack on.
I think if we started to go down that route we’d be turning away a lot of sponsors.
I know for a fact that some of the sponsors you see on the side of the pitch are companies owned by blokes who are ex hooligans or have criminal convictions. I won’t mention any names as it’s not relevant to do so but did City have to do their due diligence on all of those minor sponsors too? I’d say not.

I agree - but my comments on this thread are about the tweet they chose to put out when there really was no need. Just draws attention to it - hence the thread and replies to their announcement tweet.

They should’ve said nothing and it would’ve fizzled out. The club is so obsessed with being politically correct that it definitely spooked them.

To be honest chaps I think this thread is mostly overreacting to this.

I don’t think the football club need to apologise or have to backtrack. Banks doesn’t own the company any more. Why should City have to have done their research on someone who doesn’t work there any more?

Banks is an odious little character, for sure. But he has had absolutely zero part in this deal, so why should City have been careful about him?

Re the financial penalties the company have had, well, Liverpool are sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank who had a £46.5m fine 2 years ago!! Should Liverpool have to apologise to its fans for engaging with such a company?
And I am sure there are many more examples of unscrupulous companies ran by unscrupulous individuals where the football club has zero input.

End of the day, a company, a legitimate company, has agreed to give us some money. Are we suggesting that the club should have turned them down?

We shouldn’t have to turn away sponsorship because someone who once owned the company isn’t very well liked.

All a bit of an overreaction here for me.

What I meant by ‘hadn’t done their research’ is I doubt they (the media dept) even knew of the association.

I know your being flippant, but no. Still, this doesn’t take away from it being a hugely unprofessional tweet imo.

It’s a terribly worded tweet - who’s ‘we’ in that instance? Also ‘inflammatory remarks’ is, Banks could argue, hugely subjective.

What’s funny is the reply has clearly been agreed by a few people given the 4 hour time lag. Just no need to reply at all, so naive.

Club has just confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that Banks is no longer involved with the company.

It’s strange of them to comment on that really it’s unusual they reply to people.

The club is so predictable that it’s clear to see what’s happened, as per they didn’t do their research so were panicking.

  10. What is interesting is from seeing which way people have interacted with the first few posts - it does seem to be the more considered/thoughtful posters who are ‘Lansdown-sceptic’.

I think that is a good summary of this entire discussion - if you consider the overall context and nuance, you’d probably be Lansdown-sceptic. If you are simply happy to go to games, enjoy the new stadium and not give it much thought - you’d probably think they’re great.

Have to give him credit for realising it wasn't working. However it is a bit of a an annoyance that he made that mistake and points were dropped etc.

It was very much a Pearson performance and last night. Even the 3 subs were what Pearson would often do.

As I've always said, evolution, not revolution.

    What does that mean?

I'm a bit fed up with everything Bristol City right now. It all just feels a bit backward, you know? Why are we so stuck in the past as a club and as fans, especially when we've not really achieved much? Check out the first page of the forum, and you'll see what I mean:

    • Nigels leaving card
    • Nigel Pearson, Bit of an Artist
    • Making a fuss about winning the Carabao Cup 6 years ago (No mention of that Liverpool win we keep harping on about)
    • Richard Gould back
    • Mark Aston thread

And don't get me started on our social media team—constantly wishing old players happy birthday and every new shirt being some kind of "throwback." It's like we're stuck in a time loop or something.

Why can't we, as a club and a fanbase, be a bit more with the times? We seem to love the same old stuff, especially this weird obsession with Nigel Pearson. The guy was just so average, I don't get where all the love comes from. It's just basic and, well, a bit rubbish. We're basically cheering on failure and being okay with being average.

Why can't we, as a club and fanbase, get with the times a bit more? We're stuck on the same old things, especially this weird love for Nigel Pearson. The bloke was just so average; I'm scratching my head wondering why everyone's so into him apart from the fact he was a bit edgy. It's just basic and, well, a bit tinpot. We're basically cheering on failure and settling for being just average.

Am I the only one who thinks like this?

P.s Don't get me started with the love for Massengo just because he had big hair. Never has such a below average player been so lorded.

I do think the social media team’s stuff is lazy and low effort. They’re clearly measured on engagement, but that doesn’t mean they need to wish David Clarkson, Neil Kilkenny and Danny Haynes a happy birthday.

You could still have SL as financier if he was willing and to keep an eye to make sure nothing gets out of hand spending wise like with Ashton etc but I do agree.

Nope he’s gone too. In this alternative history scenario, we actually appoint none other than former Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan - for the sole reason he’d agree with me re: atmosphere and placement of away support.

He had an awful hand, inherited an awful hand as did NP. Style is one thing, he did keep us in the loop regularly better than a number of his successors and predecessors. Stagnated under Alexander, crashed and burned thereafter- popping up again after Manning arrived.

Would have been great to see what RG and NP could both have done based on a more even keel moving into upward trajectory especially as a pair.

True - I’d be fascinated to see what we’d achieve with RG in his former role, Pearson as a DOF/Tinnion role and LM as head coach - I think that would be a real winning combo. Best attributes of all.

It goes without saying that in this alternative-history scenario - Jon Lansdown, Steve Lansdown, all JL’s mates, Mark Kelly, Lisa Knights, the Media team, Downsy etc wouldn’t be involved.

Give that setup time and funds and I think we’d get promoted.

The good comms too, fronting up in good and bad times.

We seem to have been sensible on the wages and fees, a bit too sensible perhaps but that is due to SL post Scott! Albeit we seem to have got decent value post Ashton.

I wasn’t that impressed with his interview style personally. Not what his job is though.

I just think he gets a very good rep on here but why would anyone really know how good he was at his role? I suppose the fact we don’t indicates he did a good job.

Heard beale is abit of a fraud ain't he ? Didn't do alot at qpr or rangers

Did well at QPR. Rangers is a strange job, that microcosm of an eternal 2 way battle between Celtic and Rangers which is amplified 10x by all the context of their rivalry is never an easy situation.

The brains behind any success Gerrard had apparently. This is the acid test of his ability imo.

A game we might’ve lost, but also might’ve won, under LJ

A game we might’ve lost, but also might’ve won, under Holden

A game we might’ve lost, but also might’ve won, under Pearson

A game we won, but might end losing in future similar type games under Manning

it’s almost as if every game in football is different, and trying to draw these types of comparisons to fit any sort of narrative is slightly tiresome and pointless 🤷🏻‍♂️ (Imo)

Exactly. The majority view seems to be ‘I’m disappointed that Pearson was unfairly sacked, and angry at our board - but will give Manning a fair go” - to me that’s the most rational view.

Some have clearly made up their minds already and will actively seek out things that validate that agenda.

How is any of our unfit for top six squad going to understand or be able to use anything that is used at Manchester City one of if not the best team in the world

Because successful principles will benefit any team. Obviously you adjust them as per the ability level and aptitude of the players.
