Anyone know how the two other highly rated kids we got from Guernsey are doing (was it Acey and Ap Sion), they seem to have fallen off the radar

Scott was a real anomaly though. Most academy graduates will probably have a first couple of seasons like Sam Bell or Vyner.

  2. 3 games is far too early to judge anyone really. And I doubt we’d have got a better points return if Pearson was still here.

Manning has clearly been bought in to work to a longer term plan - he’s not a manager you bring in during a crisis to get quick results in the short term.

We will probably spend the rest of the season bobbing about in mid table, which is pretty unexciting, but the board will measure progress over a longer period of time.

I went along to the match tonight with my father in his 70’s , my dad has mobility issues and our allocated seats were far to high up for dad , we approached the stewards who were amazing and was given a special area for special requirements down by the Southampton fans left hand comer flag , half way through the match we had three city fans  who just walked in the little area and were constantly abusing Southampton fans also  a lady behind who was ever worse I have never heard such vile abuse from a city fan in 35 years it got that bad my father turned around and told them to shut up they almost started on my  father , these fans were scum

Not trying to diminish your experience, but what did your dad say to them? I’d find it fairly implausible that they’d react like that unless he gave them an earful.

I am amazed that no-one has quizzed them on Nige's departure yet. Maybe OTIB is a meaningless echo-chamber after all?

There's no way questions on Pearson would be allowed unless someone essentially heckled them.

Notice how when Lansdown was floundering a bit re: atmosphere.. Dave Barton quickly moved things on to discuss the academy. It's very stage managed.

That’s exactly why I asked whether TGH would have taken the shot had Nige still been in charge.

Difficult to say - but it does feel like in the last 10 years or so long range goals have become more of a rarity, especially higher up the pyramid. I imagine this is probably due to the emphasis on pressing etc

You wouldn’t see this frequency of long range goals anymore

Just watched his pre match interview. As someone who has been critical so far I have to say it was easily his best interview yet. It’s a low bar but there was something different to it, although the Johnsonisms are jarring.

Disappointing to see the injury curse persists with Atkinson and Benarous, but hopefully Wells is back soon at least.

Obviously it’s all about tomorrow though and seeing an improvement.

I hope that any manager using jargon isn’t lazily tarred as a ‘Johnsonism’. Pearson was the exception really, most younger British managers speak like this. It’s clearly ingrained during their badges.

If my boss was hovering all the time they'd get short shrift, people have to be left alone to do their job

Perhaps another way of looking at it is that the club are serious about fostering an ‘identity’ across the club, so more involvement with Tinnion helps to implement that outside of the first team.

I know the Medips really well - the hills cover a vast area. One village is Priddy is a hot spot for walkers. It used to have two pubs but whether they’re still there I don’t know.

I also know the Somerset Levels really well having lived there for most of the 80s. They too cover a vast area from the Polden Ridge right across to Wedmore.

Not the most inspiring of characters.

Agreed. He’s just not very interesting to listen to, but he does have big shoes to fill in that regard.

Obviously results matter more - but I do prefer it when we have a manager who I actually want to listen to.

I think we saw last night we have little other options to Kane. I would say we have zero chance in the Euro's if he gets injured, For me the best of the rest is Ivan Toney but who knows whether he will make the squad.

Toney is a great alternative. Annoyingly, Southgate being Southgate I bet he gets frozen out.

Two poor results in quick succession and numerous players still undeservedly getting picked.

I’ve got a horrible feeling we will waste an excellent tournament opportunity with him in charge.

Absolutely had the self reflection and the choice to be assertive.

Sadly some see that as aggressive because it's coming from someone who's done the hard yards in recovery from multiple life changing events both physically and mentally.

It's that I don't hold an accepted view I'm awaiting diagnosis for ASD and ADHD as well so things can come across to others as blunt or out there.

Without football I wouldn't be alive and I'm saddened that people are far more concerned with trying out, wrongly others and then using that to further agendas for internet point scoring.

Thus far I've tried 7 times to unalive because of being raped this year.

In the current brouhaha following Niges dismissal I've been accused of making up being raped and now have posters trying to dox and break privacy because it suits them to try and break the law and boundaries.

That's on the posters here, and is quite frankly disgusting given there's a sticky thread promoting mental health and wellbeing

I'm here to discuss football, not anything else for anything or anyone else .

I could have chosen any other user name and perhaps that's on me, because rmlf seems to derive derision.

    The rest I couldn't give a **** about.

Take a break, nah ya good.

Not suffer abusive aholes most definitely

    Hopefully that answers your question

Kind of.. I think you’d get a bit more respect if you just admitted you’re the same poster. It’s obvious you are, denying it is just odd.

  12. Cole Palmer is a very interesting player. Nothing like the usual English archetype, more like a Berbatov or Bergkamp which this country don’t seem to produce.

I’d like to see him in an England squad soon because he has plenty of je ne sais quoi. Makes it all the more frustrating that Southgate insists on picking Phillips and Henderson for some reason.

    I've a playbook now?

    How exciting

The effort people go to stop discussing football on a football forum is absolutely astonishing

I know you haven’t had the easiest time over the last few years by the sounds of things - but I am unsure whether being so active on this forum in such a combative way is the best idea.

It seems like you could start an argument in a phone box, and constantly drag decent albeit lively debate into ad hominem insults and accusations.

I know you won’t like this, but it feels like you’ve made a decision that you are a victim in every aspect of life and can’t see the between a difference of opinion and a personal attack.

I don’t know your personal circumstances, so I’m commenting in isolation on your forum presence. And to be honest, I don’t think it’s a particularly positive addition. A bit of self reflection is needed I think.

  14. I think one interesting aspect of management that Manning will have to consider is how the players will transition from what seems to be a very different style of communication/man management.

From what we've seen as Manning, he's clearly a very different character to Pearson. He's easily our most introverted manager since SO'D and I can't imagine he's someone who rants and raves at his players.

I've met Pearson and Fleming in the company of a few players and in that context, it's very easy to see who is the boss. Pearson is exactly as he comes across in interviews - confident, gregarious and commands the room. Fleming is similar and he's deceptively physically imposing. Pearson is clearly pretty old school, and the relationship he had with the players felt similar to that of a popular (yet scary) headmaster with his pupils or a colonel and a platoon of soldiers.

Compare that to Manning, who's not only a very different style of communicator, but also a fair bit younger.. and it'll be interesting to see how the players react to this. You'd think for most pros that wouldn't be an issue, but we have a number of the first-team squad where this will be only the second first-team manager they've played under. Inevitably this will take a bit of time.

This isn't necessarily a criticism of Manning, as maybe the players will prefer his style; but will be interesting to see.

    Yip.

Great detectives on here tonight. Glad whoever rmlf was lives in your heads rent free

I've given an answer, previously however that's not good enough.

You both continue to go 'haha got ya' as if it matters.

The state of this board is piss poor at moment, more concerned with everything but discussion and would rather go round in endless circles trying to.accuse xyz of being xyz.

It's piss poor really if all you have is attempts to fish

Have a great evening boys. Hopefully the clapping of the keyboards or tippety tap of the phones won't cause you too much excitement.

Who knows maybe they'll put a cork on your fork.

    Sweet dreams

Yup. Totally bizarre. You’ve been here for years, I’ve been here for years. I have no doubt I’ve said some stupid stuff but I own it. I’d have respect for anyone that also did but they don’t seem to want to own their opinions. Strange.

Yeah, every thread they get involved with seems to descend into accusations and their armchair psycho analysis.

So, I can’t help but noticing you haven’t answered the question. Again. And that’s not a dig, and doesn’t make me feel “warm and fuzzy”

I’m not asking you for an explanation - frankly, I don’t care. I’m asking you for a yes or no. That you won’t do that probably says more about you than me tbh.

So, do you want to own the prior posts under that ID or, in the nicest way, do you want to skulk off as your credibility is shot?
