  1. Wenger hails hot prospect Emmanuel-Thomas - Independent.ie The Arsenal manager believes the teenager from Forest Gate - who started out as a centre-back - has it all, and with the right dedication, can reach the very top of the game. "Jay is knocking very hard on my door - with two hands. He has outstanding quality," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online. "He works very hard to get his fitness right. When his fitness is right, Jay will be not only a good player, but a great player. "One thing is for sure - he can score goals. That is a massive talent you cannot give to people, his right foot, left foot, he is unbelievable in front of goal. "This guy is an unbelievable finisher, inside and outside of the box. "He has outstanding qualities, he has the build you dream to have. "It is down to how far he wants to go because he has big potential."
  2. True. But gonna be an absolute brawl in fairness. Looking fwd to it. Whether I pay for it, or not ?
  3. Will Smeed, just the 101 from 49 balls ?
  4. Funny isn't it, you look at the headline figure of £170m spent in a single decade, the stadium redevelopment and the HPC, and you assume that all along the aim must have been to reach the Premier League. Then you consider we settled for Academy Cat 2 status, when we could have gone for Cat 1 (outside of FFP spending too), and look at the managerial appointments - particularly Millen and Holden, and we can argue about a few of the others - the lack of any football direction off-field, and the self-sabotage of the summer transfer window of 2015, and think, was the aim really & truly to reach the Premier League? I have never been convinced it was, and still am not. If it had have happened then I think it would have been more by luck (2008) than design. It will be very interesting to see, when all is said and done and the Lansdown's depart, how much of a "loss" they really will have made on the club (including the real estate), if any.
  5. SL has put in around £170m in the past 10 years and not achieved a single season of Premier League football. No other club has spent that much and failed to get to the Prem, and many clubs have got there spending far less. In the 2020/21 season, which we started under Holden, we had the seventh highest wage bill in the Championship. Supporter expectation has always been pretty reasonable, SL ultimately just hasn't delivered.
  6. Exactly, context is key. SL said on Saturday that our wage bill is now sub-£20m, which is quite incredible. That means Pearson has nearly halved it from a club record high of £35.3m in the 2020/21 accounts.
  7. 7 (seven). Got an Irish mate there (and former scout) so will get a review in the morning. I'm not expecting it to be great...
  8. Quite enjoyed that. Like the way there's a light-hearted element, Root on the pitch live whilst fielding 4 out of 6 shots in one over was funny, and interesting to see his lighter side. Hales superb, despite being a scumbag. And Malan is playing on another planet at the moment. Same time, annoyed England Test's have been shelved until mid-August because of it.
  9. What he said was that the club isn't on the market, but it is. As he confirmed that full control of the club was up for grabs. That's like me saying my house isn't for sale, but I would sell the freehold if the price is right. Bristol City FC is for sale, and has been for sale, for quite some time. Going all the way back to the pre-season tour of Florida in 2019 in fact.
  10. Lovely little ground is Mangotsfield....enjoy. Talking of nice grounds, went to Brimscombe & Thrupp up in Stroud for the first time last Wednesday. Absolute cracker of a ground, very picturesque...and the Stroud Brewery & Taproom next door for a pre-match pint.
  11. I could hear the feedback when Ian was talking though, so I understand his frustration. You can't have a proper conversation when you're getting feedback through your device/headphones. Ian and Dave seemed to be having the most issues. Could hear lots of background noises too including pen clicking! I'm not an expert but higher quality mic/headsets that block out background noises may assist. Really needs sorting though, especially if you're going live / no post-production editing.
  12. I agree, it's got to the point of being unlistenable unfortunately. I do not understand why the production hasn't improved over time given it's such an obvious issue. Being live and done remotely cannot be excuses. Plenty of pods are done the same way. Investing in some decent mics would be a start, and doesn't cost the earth. Disappointing, as I've always liked the content.
  13. This clip provides the full context. Club definitely for sale at the right price. It's strange he's trying to go down the "bring investment on board" route. I think he's living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks someone's going to invest £10s millions and not want complete control.
  14. I wonder how worried we should be, if at all, that the club has in effect been up for sale for 2+ years (at least one year privately, and about a year since SL publicly stated he was "seeking investment") and yet no deal is imminent. Granted, the pandemic will have caused many potential investors to exercise caution, and that will not have changed with the current global financial climate, but as fans, we of course have no idea what Steve's asking price is, or even what exactly is up for sale. Is it Ashton Gate too? If it isn't, that could be a sizeable stumbling block. Is it the sporting quarter? Is it the other sports groups? I'm guessing the Bears are not explicitly "for sale" otherwise he would have made it known they are on rugby media channels. But one assumes they have their price too. I have nothing to benchmark us against, but I'd have thought in normal circumstances, when it became known that an English club like ours was up for sale, there would be some serious interest pretty quickly. Now Steve has confirmed that the ownership of the club is up for grabs, it's really in everyone's interests for this to be resolved as soon as possible. He's made it clear his family want to dispose of the club, and don't want to invest further serious sums of cash. So we need a resolution ASAP, and certainly not for this to drag on for another two years.

  16. He joined the City board in 1996, but didn't become Chairman/owner until 2002. So, this is his 20th year.
  17. Shhhh the transfer window is still open
  18. I don't think it's anywhere near as important as you make out. It's the second game of a 46 game season. There was much more pressure at the start of last season with Pearson still looking for a first home win.
  19. Mick Conlan back in the ring Saturday. Looks like it's on some shitty PPV streaming service ?
  20. Superb..and shout out to ex-City player Lauren Hemp, Euros winner.
