I’d reserve your sadness until we have some proof of this. It seems to be a new claim from somebody who has been on here about a week and is already challenging our friend from Henbury for the title of most prolific liar.

Yep, first I've heard of it as well.

Phillips was a class act and I would like to see him back at the club in some capacity.

And Judas c***? Take a look at yourself - please remember the guy was actually physically attacked by one of your 'fans' at a gym. Like I said before - its only a game and you being mildly less cr*p than us is of little or no consequence in the greater scheme of things.

As I remember it, 'Flapper' Phillips was very well treated by club and fans alike, up until the point when he lost his place as first-choice keeper to an infinitely more talented (not to mentioned dignified and classy) professional, at which point he threw his toys out of the pram like a petulant child.

On an entirely unconnected note, if he was indeed attacked by someone at a gym then that is an utter disgrace and very sad to hear.

    2) the whole left wing/right wing argument.  I guess that's a helpful narrative in todays climate (depending on your audience) but I remember Bulldog (NF paper) being openly sold outside the Tote End back in the early 80s.

Indeed. Meanwhile the Socialist Worker was on sale at City games, and the East End regularly did the "Maggie Out!" chant.

Perhaps this needs pointing out to the misguided Manc fella!

My understanding, having spoken to him on one call in relation to the Heritage project - is that he's very unlikely to return to the BCFC board. He's happy to be involved as he is with projects that support the club, but full board membership isn't happening.

Shortly after Richard Gould's return to the club, I spotted Gould and Scott Davidson in a Clifton restaurant having dinner and a cosy chat. I thought then that maybe we might see SD getting involved again at some level in cub affairs, but it seems not.

Though as mentioned above, he played a part in the formation of the Former Players Association.

    Game's gone soft...

Well quite. None of those theatrics when Gerry Gow broke Stan Bowles' leg, just make the tackle, get the man off the pitch and get on with the game.

    ******* drama queens these days!

We've deserved to win a lot of games

    Hull

    Wigan

    Blackpool

    Burnley/Norwich deserved at least draws

    Coventry

    Swansea

    Sheff Utd

    Watford

    Stoke

    Millwall

Win half of those games we deserved to win and we're comfortably in the play offs.

At the moment we must be one of the unluckiest teams there is. We don't win games we should win. We don't get penalties we should get. We sometimes don't even pick up points from games we should win. We are constantly battling with injuries. Kalas and Baker both being out were huge blows.

Whilst our position in the league isn't great. We are not where we should be. Bit more luck in some of those games and it's all good. I try to not lose sight of that. There is good happening behind the scenes, it's just not quite showing in the results.

On top of our poor luck, we very rarely pick up points or wins in games where we don't deserve it. We don't get any smash and grabs. Middlesbrough is one of the only ones I can think of. We don't tend to get battered either. Birmingham is one of the only ones I can think of.

I don't like to blame everything on luck but all of that is rather bizarre.

I get your point, but don't really believe luck comes into it in the end. Often when watching a game I'll mutter "ooh, unlucky!", when what I really mean is "should have done better mate!"

Yeah, I remembered about 16k! We had some good Boxing Day results. Encouraged by this one, whole family went to the Hawthorns on Boxing Day a couple of years later and we were thumped 3-0. My mum was so appalled I don’t think she went again until the final in 1987- which we also lost.

In the snow with an orange ball? Yeah I was at that one too, sat near the legendary Tony Harling who spent most of the game chanting on his own, as usual.

We were wrapping presents in the music room last Friday, I have just walked back in and look what was the last thing on the deck. :(

I still have my 12" vinyl copy of Specials, along with the Madness One Step Beyond LP,  having bought both together down Virgin a week or so after they were released.

It's still good to discover new music now, but nothing will ever come close to the sheer thrill and exhilaration of the 2Tone explosion as a 14 year old.

Terry Hall lead singer of the Specials - age 63

Shocking news about Terry Hall, and at such a young age.

One of my first live gigs, aged 14, was the inaugural 2Tone tour at the Locarno.

A huge influence, not only musically but also, dress code, dodgy haircuts and general outlook on life!

    RIP Terry

    So they are.

    Bristol City v Millwall Violence

    Pot/Kettle? ?

    Pot/kettle?

Indeed, I think you'll find that was @Lanterne Rouge's whole point wasn't it, given that so many of the so-called 'Family Club' have spent the past 30-odd years claiming City are 'all hooligans', while denying their own equally nasty thug element. We've never denied ours.

You know some of yours will even try somehow to blame the Cheltenham incident on 'kin shitheads, don't you?

is it still going would be surprised if it was

Sadly the Dug Out closed down in the 80s when the old bill opposed the licence renewal. I think it became a restaurant for a while.

Was a brilliant place for a night out if you were a teenager back then, epitomising Bristol's ****-you nonconformity. Punks and rastas and The Wild Bunch.

I didn't go this evening btw, as life's too busy and sometimes there are not enough hours in the day.

  12. Yeah it's like when I went to see U2 in 1980 at the Poly. Where were all the fairweather fans then, huh? And yet you all came out of the woodwork when The Joshua Tree was released, didn't you?!

I'd far rather my favourite bands - and football teams for that matter - stayed small-time and niche and crap forever, thank you very much.

Wow - found that very moving. - as you say, both the song and video are thought provoking.

Any idea how he came to partner up with the charity?

Liam revealed that he has lost a few friends to suicide recently and he wanted to do something about it, to back a cause that would make a difference. Sounds like he knew someone who was a Talk Club member.

As someone said in the match thread, people might not notice him much when he's there, but we sure as hell notice when he isn't.

Anyone remember Joe Burnell? Often went unnoticed or unappreciated, even when he was man of the match.
