I still can't believe we had certain sections of our crowd singing "we want Pearson out" half way through last season.

My understanding is there was a feeling of bewilderment within the club about those fans feelings because everyone has seen the job Nige has done here even tho it kay have not always shown on the pitch.

I often get fans from other clubs say to me in a mocking tone "Pearson at the wheel" they see it as we are accepting mid table obscurity by having Pearson here. I don't think they quote grasp the job Nige has done here and that he's set us up nicely for a very exciting future.

Only a very small proportion of the crowd, during one game, if I recall correctly. And they were shouted down, certainly in my area of the South Stand.

Every club has a small proportion of clueless fucktards in its fanbase and we are no exception.

Assuming the one of them is McCrorie then the other two heavily linked names are O'Brien and Currie, although I'm assuming Currie isn't happening now that Bryan is.

That said, if we sign Bryan and O'Brien then I'm pretty hopeful that later in the summer we'll complete deals for Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb.

Barney McGrew rumoured to be out of contract as well?

    Another band under the radar

    IT BITES from the 80s

No one hit wonder pop band in reality.

Great, skilled musicians and amazing live, in their day.

If you love music, if you love proper playing, if you are open to anything, I would check them out.

    Great stuff.

My young self in the 80s, obsessed with the Jam, Bunnymen and Smiths and all things cool, would have despised this 'w nkery'. Yet as you mature you realise there's way too much amazing music in the world to get hung up on genres and factions and what's cool.

(Although fair to say I'm still obsessed with The Jam, The Bunnymen and The Smiths!)

The wife just watched Coventry fans getting all excited on local news about their big day tomorrow; "What final is this" ...play off final I said then had to try and explain why a team can finish 10 points behind Luton 3rd place and yet have a chance of beating them to the top division.

Madness she said why cant the top 3 go up just as the bottom 3 go down?

Well maybe something to do with someone making money, got to agree the season should be the season imo, top 3 should go up and bottom 3 down...the end.

The season shouldnt come down to an overpriced one off game where a bit of luck could swing it one way or another...........what next?..... top team goes up and the next 8 play off against each other......madness but watch this space over the coming years.

    3up, 3 down simple :dunno:

My old mate Martin, the Wolves fan, would agree with you. Well in 1987 he would have done, anyway.

Martin was f king incandescent in 1987, the first year the playoffs were introduced. Absolutely spitting feathers, he was. Wolves finished fourth in Division 4 (I know!), but ended up losing the playoff final to Aldershot (ALDERSHOT FFS!!) who had finished way behind them in sixth place. How is that fair?! F'kin Aldershot mind!!

Anyway, the rest of us saw it as a great innovation, an obvious improvement to the league format, that would lead to a huge uptake in fan engagement throughout the pyramid and help to restore the waining popularity of the game.

I haven't seen Martin for years now, but I really hope he's in great health, loving his football team's (relative) success, and enjoying the brilliant spectacle of the playoffs.

A classic pop tune that ticks nearly every box when making a ' hit'. Could be Coldplay or Snow Patrol on any other day.

How many artists go off on their own trying to be 'artistic'...'alternative'...then come back to the basic ' hit formula'...

I actually agree. My first thought when listening to this was "Blur by numbers".

Not Damon's most creative moment. I'd imagine he came up with this song on his lunch break. He's one of the most talented British songwriters of all-time and has produced far better than this.

Yep true enough, we are talking about the man who wrote 'For Tomorrow' and 'This Is A Low', for example, and at least a dozen more world-class songs. Damon has set his bar so ludicrously sky-high that we have to cut him some slack when he comes up with material that is only "really good".

Who in their right mind would openly try to sell season tickets for next season for a stand that hasn't even had a planning application submitted for as yet. Unless all their intention was to build an even bigger temporary structure. Bizarre. What a strange little club they are.

Pretty sure they, or at least their project managers, know what they're doing. Imagine the outrage with the NIMBYS and the 'anti-Rovers' councillors when the stand can't be opened in August. How dare they?! Mayor Marvin the blue will see it through the 'due process' for them, no doubt, whether or not it is in the interests of his citizens.

I always remember a game away at Leeds under Lee Johnson. 2017/2018 I think. We were 2 - 0 up and utterly in control. Midway through the second half the Leeds fans made an utterly incredible noise in support of their side and willed their side back into the game. In the end, we desperately held on for 2-2. I can’t remember ever seeing a set of fans so clearly influence their side’s performance and I’ve had a grudging respect for Leeds fans ever since.

Similarly, I remember a game during those difficult early weeks in Gary Johnson's tenure when City were struggling in the League 1 relegation zone.

With nothing of any note going on in the game (I guess we were losing), a few in the Atyeo started singing 'City 'till I die', and kept it going until more and more started joining in around the ground. As I remember it, the team responded almost straight away, playing with a previously unfound intensity. I think we ended up winning the game (others might remember more detail), but it was the start of an amazing turnaround and paved the way for a pulsating atmosphere at the Gate and a couple of the most memorable seasons in the club's history.

Old, but new to me. Started looking into Corduroy after going to an Acid Jazz exhibition last weekend. Really like their Jazz stuff, but then they branch out and shake it up. Love this cover of Motorhead and love he fact I enjoy both versions.

That is absolutely brilliant, thanks for sharing!

The planning application hasn’t even been  registered yet ?.

As we’re aware, Bristol City Council isn’t widely renowned for their swift decision-making... Typically, applications of this nature require a period of 8-13+ weeks to navigate through the system, which means they could be waiting right up to the beginning of the new season (presuming the application is registered in the next week or so). There is also a possibility that the application might be subject to review by a planning committee, especially if concerns are raised by residents in Horfield.

It’s so tinpot and unprofessional from Rovers to be leaving the planning process until the last minute, especially when they’re selling season tickets for a stand that hasn’t got planning permission. Surely they could’ve done it months ago ??‍♂️

This probably isn’t going to end well… ?

As previously mentioned, I suspect they intend simply to plough ahead and build (*assemble*) the stand, before even submitting a planning application.

By the time the new structure (almost twice the height of the existing tent) has taken shape, the local residents will finally have woken up to the impact of the new build. By that time though, it will be too late for them.

Any resistance to the progress of the application will draw the wrath of Wael, Barton and the Few, and one suspects sag Mayor Marvin Rees will see it through for them without too much bother. Basically, they'll bully their way through, bypassing the due process.

Yes we had some massive followings that season at MK Dons and a Coventry in particular.

I seem to remember it being an average around 1400. I’ll see if I can find it.

Our best season for big away followings must have been that first season back up in the Championship with Gary Johnson - 2007/08 - the play off season. Pretty sure we averaged about 1,800 that season, didn't we?

That’s a fairly standard procedure, to proceed at risk.

I am more than happy to take the piss but I’d be amazed if a structure of similar height doesn’t get formally approved in the end.

If they wait until it was officially approved they’d lose a lot of the summer.

It will still look shit, though.

Indeed, but as @bert tann pointed out, the (admittedly rudimentary and amateurish) illustration they published appeared to show a structure almost twice the height of the existing tents.

That's got to have a pretty big impact on the neighbourhood, so if due process is followed, it can't happen overnight.

If, on the other hand, they bully their way through the 'red tape', blaming NIMBYs and backward-looking councillors for any obstruction, I imagine gashead Marv will be able to expedite the necessary consents with near-miraculous speed.

  14. I've been revisiting the first records I bought, as an 8 year-old, and the first band I ever loved - The Sweet.

What a criminally underrated hard rock band they were! Incredible four-part harmonies and insanely good players, not least the drummer Mick Tucker, who for me is up there with Bonham and Moon.

The Six Teens, showcases their all-round brilliance and should go down as a classic.

I don't know about old songs beating the shit out of new ones, my top ten would probably be evenly split.

However, a track I discovered the long way around so to speak is Cosmic Dancer - T-Rex, I saw Nick Cave perform his version in Liverpool a couple of years ago and initially thought it was his own. I can't believe this track had passed me by for so many years.

Here are both versions for you....

I danced right out the womb.....

The T Rex original of Cosmic Dancer I've had for years, but that Nick Cave cover is fantastically haunting, thanks for sharing.

The Jam double album, "About The Young Idea".

    Singles, B Sides, album tracks.

    A thing of beauty.

    Thank you Mr Weller.

Seeing The Jam at the Locarno when I was 15 remains one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. So much respect to Weller for never reforming the band though.

  16. Much as I genuinely enjoy discovering new music, let's be honest, the old songs beat the shit out of the new ones, don't they? Which forgotten classics from yesteryear have you rediscovered, perhaps on a late night trawl through YouTube?

Here are two incredible tracks from my youth that I've had on my playlist recently.

No More Ghettos In America by Stanley Winston.

Absolute goosebumps every time I hear this. I honestly think it might be the best thing I've ever heard. "That was so good I thought my jaw was going to lock." So said John Peel the first time he played me this sublime tune. Little is known about Mr Winston, apart from that he had a voice that could make grown men cry.

    Oh Lori by Alessi Brothers.

In the most exciting summer in the history of music, just as the 12 year old me was discovering the seismic Sex Pistols, the Stranglers and the Jam, who would collectively change the world forever, this fantastic song by twins Bobby and Billy Alessi was also on Top of the Pops. I absolutely loved this at time, but it was deeply uncool and I never declared my love to another human being. Until now. I could listen to this endlessly now that stupid music snobbery is no longer a thing in my life.
