Guessing this is either procedural or to ensure that it now goes through as quickly as possible.

The total naivety of those on here saying that it will be refused & will have to be taken down, they have had someone on the inside with a vested interest who has been pushing this ahead of the usual queues all along. Same thing applies with the Fruit Market project, even though that appears to be dead.

If they were a halfway competent outfit this stand would be in use by now.

I think the unwritten advice from Mayor Rees's team can probably paraphrased something like this.

"Look lads, we're desperate to wave this through for you, but we can't approve it right now because, well, the "application" you've submitted is the most laughably amateurish piece of work we've ever seen. Seriously, what were you thinking?! Embarrassing! We'd be a laughing stock if we let that pass FFS! 😂

"Listen, your best bet is to withdraw the application as soon as possible, before everyone realises the stand you've already built is way bigger than the primitive image you bizarrely tried to get away with on the original form. Sorry, but you're going to have to pay someone to do a proper application, but then we'll be able to get rid of all those inconvenient objections for you. Don't worry about the local residents or the Greens, we'll 'take care' of them, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

    You ain't seen me, right?

If it sells out the pricing is right

If it doesn't then it's to high

Hmm, because the market might pay those prices, doesn't make them 'right'.

Supply and demand says that a 3 bed Victorian terraced house around the corner from Ashton Gate could cost you north of £600k, but that's not 'right' either, it's f king obscene.

No. This is the common mistake people always make.

Newly promoted clubs that haven't been in this division for a very long time will always have big away attendences to begin with. It's like cup finals to them. We were the same.

If they spend 5 years in this division then they won't be taking over 2k to Preston away.

We're taking a similar number to Leicester because for us, we've not played there for quite a while.

If Plymouth gave us 3400 tickets this season then we'd sell out because like with the Leicester game, we've not played a league game there for a while.

True that, didn't we average getting on for 2,000 away in GJ's play-off season?

After so many years in the third tier, I think a lot of us were tempted to travel far more than normal, which is understandable and natural behaviour whoever you support.

You can’t get more ‘retro’ than their Cornick song attempt. Herman’s effing Hermits FFS! I’m a fan of Cornick and would like to encourage him to score a goal. Hurry up Harry, Come on… Then we can all join in with the chorus “We’re going down the pub…” About 15 years less retro than “I’m into Something Good!”

Yes mate, I'd love to hear that one belted out. Start it off on Tuesday night!

Hilarity tinged with some sadness today. Yes it’s hilarious the plug has been pulled on the fruit market, but more than a serving of sadness that their banter has quite possibly reached its absolute pinnacle today. Surely this can never be topped?

They really are too funny aren't they?

I wonder whether it's possible for the hilarity to increase to such an intensity that it reaches critical mass and, like dark matter, collapses in on itself in a comedy implosion, and just suddenly stops being funny any more?

    I do hope not.

Fantastic story, featuring a young Carlo Cudicini. If anyone has not read the book can heartily recommend.

Unlike going to Luton, which is an absolute shithole.

A great book. Surreally, Kevin Mabbutt owned the movie rights at one time, though I don't think he was ever able to find the backing to get it made, sadly.

... we always mock and praise the almighty that we aren’t Cardiff with their owners……but do you honestly think Cardiff would swap thier current situation and history for ours?  Not a fooking chance they would!

No idea what you're getting at here. Cardiff have no history to speak of, any more than we do.
Two of my oldest friends are Cardiff City fans and I can assure you they would take a Steve Lansdown equivalent - a locally born and bred rich bloke who has the interests of the football club at heart, rather than chasing profit - over Vincent Tan, in a heartbeat. If such a person exists in Cardiff. But the truth is, Steve Lansdown equivalents are few and far between, for most clubs

I'd always assumed Dave and Ansel Collins were brothers until a few years ago when I realised Dave was called Dave Barker and wasn't related to Ansel.

Their act was missing a comma. Should really be "Dave, and Ansel Collins".

    What the f@**??!

You've blown my teenage world apart, and rather upset my Tuesday evening!

Peter Mellor might agree with you.

Ruddy, on the other hand, would probably be relieved to have been playing in front of the South Stand, rather than the East End.

Anyway, without getting into the Danny Baker discussion (he is as passionate an anti-racist as he is an anti-royalist), you'll be well aware, no doubt, of Rovers' history as the perennial right-wing bigots of Bristol football, famously hosting the National Front selling its newspaper at home games. Meanwhile, conversely, the distinctly anti-racist Socialist Worker was on sale at City in the early 90s.

I'm not in a position to comment on this, but I can say that Bristol was quite a racist city until quite recently and even now is far from the multicultural nirvana that it is caricatured as. However, I have absolutely no reason to believe that City fans were more progressive in this regard, and here its worth noting that I have recently highlighted a number of cultural sensitivities for the attention of several contributors.

I can however say with considerably greater certainty that your socialist credentials have been brought into clear question by the extent to which you have bent over for Mr Lansdown and his fortune.

"I'm not in a position to comment on this, but I can say that Bristol was quite a racist city until quite recently".

What the actual ****? I'm starting to believe you actually might be Joey Barton. If you were from Bristol, you would be only too well aware that our city as a whole is one of the most inclusive and progressive in the country. Although sadly, the Blue Few do rather let the rest of us down, what with being a bunch of daft old racists and that.

What would Danny Baker know about Bristol Rovers? And, more to the point, why would I care?

He is a Millwall-supporting loudmouth who was sacked by the BBC for tweeting extraordinarily racist material.

So pleased to find you're still here, my friend! Though I suspect our many Rovers visitors who read the thread daily (hiya!!) will be desperate for you to stop embarrassing them. From our perspective though, please stay!

I'm very happy to hear he 'redeemed' himself by making credible music with actual musicians. However, for most observers, he will always be the 'drummer from Bros'.

Fame is both a blessing and curse.

Oh do keep up, dear. He's never, for anyone, been the drummer from Bros, just a successful businessman and freelance keyboard player.

    FFS we've talked about this!

Its funny - when I hear you lot to us as 'tinpot', I only have to think back just over two decades, when the bassist/drummer of Bros (sorry, genuinely can't remember/care), was your chairman. For those less senior, Bros have a strong claim to be one of the worst UK bands of all time, and I was genuinely embarrassed for your club and its fanbase. At the time we were being run by the Dunfords - a solid, decent and unstated chairmanship.

Then you met Steve Lansdown, a leading practitioner of Anglo-Saxon vulture capitalism, and the rest is history.

Your lack of awareness and detachment from reality are actually quite endearing.

Scott Davidson, like the Dunfords, was/is a respected and successful local business man. As a sideline, he also happens to be a very talented session musician (keyboard player, by the way) who has worked with some incredible artists like the Pet Shop Boys, as well as some of lesser repute (they all pay good money though!).

I'm pretty sure Davidson's wealth was considerably greater than the Dunfords', though in business terms, Steve Lansdown is in a different stratosphere than any of the aforementioned, or than the new Rovers chap.

    I hope this clarifies.

Into The Valley go the Bristol tribute act the Skidmarks.

    Come on you Addicks.

I'm reminded of a memory association technique I came up with for a girlfriend, many years ago go for remembering stadium names. Genuine, I'm not even joking, this honestly happened!

To recall the name of Charlton Athletic's home ground:

Charlton > Charlton Heston > Heston (sounds like) > vest and pants > pants - skid marks > The Skids > Into The Valley > Charlton Athletic play at The Valley!

Probably best I don't share the one about Scunthorpe and their 'Gland'ford Park, it was even more tenuous and definitely won't get through the swear filter ?

I lived in New Cross for a bit. It's no where near as bad as you think it will be. Millwall are actually a decent family club and have worked hard to make it a good experience. Stay on the beaten track, don't be a dick and you'll have a good day.

The comfort and the joy of feeling lost, with the only living boy in New Cross.

Bloody hell thats a blast from the past, seen here acting not particularly lady like in the lions a couple of times.

I'm reminded of some mad nights in the Brunel wine bar, early noughties, with Sam and her coterie. Let's just say Clifton Village's 'genteel and classy' reputation was tested to the limit at times. A certain Keith Valle was also on the scene, but that's another story.

Players I’ve been really upset about leaving.
    Cole to Newcastle.
    Goater to Man City.
    Murray to Reading.

Reid to Cardiff - anyone but.

Webster to Brighton - he was the start of great things.

With Scott it was inevitable - we have maximised profit on someone who has cost us absolutely nothing and could have left in January - I genuinely through of life this season without him so am not surprised.

we dust ourselves off, we move on and we be thankful for an academy that is producing quality players.

    Collier to Coventry?

The answer - of course - is to sign them all up to 10 year contracts. Pretty sure nothing can possibly go wrong there.

It’s like Brexit. Being told to get over it within hours.

Totally different. City have sold our best players countless times over the years and we've always got over it. Nearly all clubs do.

But we've never sabotaged our entire future and sold our kids down the river forever. Only one nation has ever done that to itself ?
