    Oh....

WelI anyway I was thinking I might hold it back for the next Bristolian forward to burst through the ranks - as long as their name scans with the last line of the song (maybe something for Tins and the academy staff and scouting network to focus on there).

  2. How about this one for Tommy? Yes I know he already has a song, but this, much like Paul McCartney's 'Let It Be', came to me in a dream. Seriously it did!

To the tune of She's Electric:

He's from Bristol, He shoots the ball like a pistol, He's gonna cost you a fistful, Tommy Co-on-way

    Okaaay, as you were...

It was on a Friday night. I think we scored fairly early on? Then it was more of a 'making sure it stayed that way' type of match. Not a good game football wise but oh boy, the atmosphere at the final whistle....Ashton Gate went mental. BS3 had a football team and as Jim D said, it was like winning the World Cup.

Yep, we were in the middle of the east end that night and I remember a palpable connection between team and crowd. e.g. Glyn Riley whipping up the chanting at a corner (which I don't think players really used to do back then, as they do now).

It certainly seemed to me like the start of the resurrection.

Was that the famous Ralph Milne slice ( chip ) last couple of minutes

I remember running down the terracing jumping on to the fence ( lost my grip ) straight back into a puddle

i think nowadays I would run down the terracing and go straight through the fence ??

I suspect he probably means a few years earlier - 83/84?

On the way back up from the depths of 1982 and IIRC I think this game sent us to top of div 4, with the first 10k+ crowd in a few years.

City are back, 'ello, ello! Let the (comparatively) good times roll.

I strongly suspect the Mayor will just wave this through retrospectively.

The new stand won't increase their capacity by so much that parking/amenities will be adversely affected, surely? And although it's a bigger tent than the one its replacing, I don't think it will impact the houses behind that much - and I'm not sure that's even still a thing these days, "right to light" being a thing of the past (I think).

It will be roughly twice the height of the old one, with about 2,500 additional seats.

Still not a fork in the ground… no chance of planning in time for September.

Fair to say there's no chance of planning or building consents being granted in time, but on the contrary, they're pushing ahead with the build full speed, without so much as a nod to the necessary regulations.

Implicit from the tone of Wael's big announcement a couple of months ago, they plan to blame others (NIMBYs, anti-Rovers councilors, etc) when the season starts and they don't have consent to use the stand, despite having sold season tickets for it.

Contrary to their statement at the time, "Planning permissions and building regulations have all been submitted", that wasn't actually true, it was a big lie, but they went ahead and started work anyway.

“Given the scale of the development, timelines are tight and we will be doing all we can to ensure that the new structure is in place as quickly as possible, with minimum disruption. That said, as with any development of this nature, there is always the chance of delays that are out of our control, but we have done all we can to look to mitigate this risk.

"Planning permissions and building regulations have all been submitted, and the club is working with our Safety Advisory Group to make sure that all regulations are covered as part of the build process, so that the new development can be signed-off for use at the earliest possible opportunity.

"We would like to ask supporters to remain patient whilst we work through these improvements, but the expectation is that they will be completed in time for the new season."

Condensed version: we will bully our way through this, regardless of due process or the rights of our neighbours.

Not sure. I think Elton edged that, his voice was fantastic. And I saw the Macca set live!

    Agree on the guests though.

Well Bristol Oil Services says you're wrong, and he knows better than the rest of us, apparently.

A quick look at our family group chat has just established that my 13 year old niece knew every word of that guest number (big on TikTok apparently) but none of Elton's, and vice versa for the adults.

As it should be. And massive credit to Elton for giving the lad that platform on his big night.

  10. I've never bought an Elton John record in my life, yet I know every one of these songs (apart from the 'special guest') and they are all superb.

His vocal is holding up pretty well for a 76 year-old. What an incredible talent. And that fu king crowd! Wow.

Nice shirt! Did it not have the Robin badge then though?

No the robin/suspension bridge/football badge was introduced the following season, the new Division 1 shirt with the Umbro diamonds down the sleeves.

Toffs do a replica of that one as well, including the white away version.

Really accurate replicas, great quality, all cotton with an embroidered crest.

Despite them never having rejected Rovers in the past, not that they have actually ever submitted any stadium applications

Nonsense, they were granted full planning permission to redevelop the stadium complete with a block of student flats, about 15 years ago. Didn't go ahead though, as no one would pay for it, as it turned out.

Serious question, have they been given planning permission yet?

They haven't even submitted an admissible planning application, but are proceeding with the build regardless, in contravention of due process and fair practice.

Yet should they be unfortunate enough not to win retrospective consent, they will no doubt be outraged (having already sold over 100 season tickets for a non-existent stand), the victims of NIMBYs and an anti-Rovers council.

That is the whole article if you're interested

Thanks so much for posting this. Despite loads more high-profile and iconic glory days, both before and since, that day at Chester remains the most emotional occasion of my City-supporting life.

Literally the only time I have ever cried actual tears at a football match. That moment when we were all on the pitch and TC and the lads emerged up in Chester's directors box... cannot ever be equalled.

Even if we somehow reach the Premier League one day, or win the FA Cup or the Champions League, I don't think it can surpass the emotion of Chester 84, though you would need to have been there to understand why.

Genuinely don't see the past or a fans perspective as relevant. How would he have any inclination of a clubs interest, valuation or where Alex sits on their recruitment priority list/squad depth chart?

He's done more than Bellingham did at Birmingham. He moved for over £30m after sell ons.

A fee is dependent on a multitude of factors, none of which are necessarily reflective of market value.

Potential, home grown, 2 years left on a contract, professionalism (won't go on strike to force a move) the sale of Semenyo and 2 years of austerity meaning we are under no obligation to sell below our valuation will all be factors in driving the price up. Semenyo was the opposite story, diminishing value/contract, promise to let him leave, slowing interest meant we had to accept arguably less than he was "worth" if you were applying value as a stand alone concept (which it absolutely isnt).

Take two identical players and put them in different scenarios and the fee will be wildly different. Circumstances are the main driver of value. We are in a strong position for once.

And if nobody meets our valuation we have the best young player in the division/country at our disposal for another year. Can't be a bad thing

I really enjoyed this appraisal of the Alex Situation. Haven't a clue whether you're right mind, but I've decided to believe that you are

Herbert Gillam has been on the line with bad news for Rovers fans.

It appears Bristol City Council will not entertain the requested capacity increase at the Memorial Stadium.

So anyway, apart from the venerable Bert (and Herbie), has anyone heard any more about their new stand fiasco? Have the city planners really told them "no, don't even think about it"?

All seems to have gone rather quiet over at the Tinpottery.

Don't go there, loads of City fans at Glos.

Actually to be fair, I have spotted a Glos/Gas parallel.

Personally, as a Bristol City supporter I attend most home games and a few away.

Meanwhile, as a Glos CCC fan I go to, now let's see, ooh, probably about one game every two years?

    Sounds about right ?
