  1. He says that the press "pulled the board apart unceremoniously" after they sacked SOD and that's why they took the "deliberate decision" to stay away from the SC press conference. He then goes on to say they have always made themselves available to the press and always will.

Which press pulled the board apart? The BEP? Really? Come on! If that is true it's rather pathetic.

What is clear form the interview is that he spends a lot of time reading stuff on the internet and that he'd prefer people not to post faceless comments but to "come in and have a cup of coffee". Again, really? It's BS.

He also seems very proud of the massive footballing experience there is on the board and specifies that KD and he have been around since 1996 accumulating much footballing experience. But neither of them are learning from the experience and they are making the same mistakes time and time again.

And as for the Chairman of a club not needing to be a public figure, he completely misses the point. Every board needs members who offer a different perspective and can provide genuine challenge to the status quo. KD may work very hard "behind the scenes" but that is exactly NOT what a Chairman needs to be doing.

Very depressing listening - and sad too because the guy obviously cares passionately. He really really really needs to get some people on that board who can provide the leadership we so desperately lack.

God help the poor man if we ever got to the prem. The poor little lambs, a back water paper had a go at the board! Laughable really. Maybe ot is best we stay a back water club if the owner managing director and chairman feel the Bristol Post is too hot to handle.

    Truly laughable

  2. What a sorry state of affairs this has become.

I think all of us are simply fed up with the massive void between the club and supporters, which Steve Lansdown has unfortunately created.

All we've ever wanted is for him to bring in the best people behind the scenes, which he clearly hasn't, he simply wouldn't employ his lad, in such a lofty role at his other company.

As Jordan has stated, letters and e.mails have simply been ignored, when sent to raise concerns, showing a complete lack of respect to it's paying customers.

I remember back in Terry Cooper's day, he would actually take the time to personally respond to any letters sent to him, imagine that today?

Seems no one at the club is responsible for anything, and hide away, to it's shame.

The very heart of this once thriving club has been ripped out, with good people who cared deeply for it, replaced by unaccountable and incompetent individuals.

The thing is we all want our club back, and something to be proud of, instead of the laughing stock it has become, and only one man can do anything about it, so what's stopping him ?

It really does make you wonder if something sinister is afoot?

Sadly sums the bloke up. I've been banging for years and his public persona seems to be slipping and the fans are starting to see through him now. Unfortunately too late to do much. He has sewn this club exactly how he wants it. To such an extent you get people on here saying "well you name someone who will take us over" well we can't because Steve walks on water Lansdown has sewn the club up in such a way, the only people that could afford to buy him out would be rich foriegners.

Hey ho. I guess we have to live with this rabble at the helm.

  3. It's a minute's applause, if anyone doesn't want to clap they have that option.

Ah righto. Thanks for that. I guess that is better. Less awkward for any not wishing to partake.

  4. Cold.

    Is it?

I have heard stories from our extended family that had loved ones killed by Mandela's off shoot of the ANC. If they were at the game, what do reckon their opinion of the minutes silence would be?

Apparently they were in the wrong shopping centre at the wrong time.

Mr Mandela used to be cold and calculating. I am sure there are those out there that remember that side, over the forgiving side of a elderly man.

I kniw this has deviated from football minutes silence per se. But not everyone will agree with it is the point I am making, so a minutes silence should not be forced on people.

  5. Considering it hasn't quite got as bad as Zimbabwe, and the fact it is safe to go on holiday. I think it's better than back when Mandela was trying to change this don't you?

Hmmm you think? Not many countries, in fact none where car hire companies warn you to stay in gear at traffic lights at night because of car jackings. Only country I have been to with car jacking hot spot warning signs.

    Edit

I forgot to mention the great whites :)

  6. Sadly since he left South African politics, the country is on the slippery slope to becoming yet another failed and corrupt African state.

Yep, unfortunately his ANC party are corrupt to the core and have made many black South Africans poorer than they were under apartheid, even if they are free.

Unfortunately I think this can stem back to the acceptance of money from various bad sources which led to many party becoming drunk with the thought of power and money.

I don't think Mandela agreed with this but I not sure he ever distanced himself from it, and to my knowledge never criticised his party for the way it was run making his fight for racial equality and rights for Black south Africans a little hollow. Unfortunately his South Africa is now more corrupt, and money grabbing at the highest level, than it ever has been.  Brutality towards blacks by the government is just as bad as it has ever been, but is massively over looked.

I am all for the good will towards Mandela, but I don't think his legacy will be as great as the ideals he stood for.

  7. What actions exactly are you referring to ?

There are lots of things he did leading up to imprisonment, and a few things he did when in power which cannot really be described  as great.  I am not going to dig them out but you can do the research for yourself.  As a figurehead once Apartheid was banished he has done undoubted good,  But there was a lot of muddy waters rippling around NM's feet.  So I can see exactly why some people will not always take the great and the goods view.

Probably not best discussing it the day he dies though.

    Best left for another time.

The man was as flawed as much as anyone else, I believe he acknowledged this and said himself he should not have been put on such a high pedestal.

  8. Let's look at his jobs:

Bristol Rovers - play offs, mid table, sacked. FAIL

QPR - relegated, promoted, mid table, sacked. EVENS

Plymouth - quit to go to Leicester and later admitted to being dishonest - FAIL

Leicester - relegated, sacked - FAIL

Blackpool - promoted, relegated, play offs, left. - SUCCESS

Crystal Palace - promoted, left. EVENS

To qualify the last one, he signed so many players in the summer and made a right mess of things and then resigned as he couldn't handle it. Hardly an overall success.

So, one success out of six.

Amazing that some fans want this man at our club.

It matters not, only Blackpool counts apparently!

  9. I think your personal views of Holloway are clouding you on that one.

Blackpool's stint in the Premier League under him was impressive and they played some nice football - shook up some of the big boys.

All on a budget of 1/100th of them.

How can it be clouded, they were relegated, good football or not.  I never disputed the football they played up there was good on the eye.  And clearly financially with parachute payments they must surely be minted now.  But Money doesn't buy success, you need the tactics nous and team spirit to be winners.  And some of those were missing,  a little more know how and he could have kept them up,  they had a cracking start to the campaign which should have been enough.

I don't like the bloke, that is clear, but people rattle out BS abouthim being a great manager, his record shows he is equally adept at in fact moreso of screwing over clubs and equal relegations to promotion.  That doesn't say great manager that say erratic inconsistent manger to me

  10. The Blackpool relegation from the Premier League is hardly a failure.

In fact they did bloody well under him in the top tier for the budget they had in comparison.

Relegation not failure? of course it is.  That is just an excuse peddled out.  Notice Swansea stayed up and have improved, enabling them to up their budget.  It is about being aware of tactics, which he isn't, going hell for leather is all well and good, but they lost so many points from winning positions  because of bad decisions from the boss.

Relegation is failure, no matter how you want to dress it up.

  11. And he could, alas as demonstrated on here by those that are less than insightful of what is needed, but prefer to put petty spite in front of common sense is only to apparent.

I have said it before it is one of the reasons we are where we are, some are so stuck in the past it's embarrassing, glad I got out of Bristol all those years ago. I might have turned out narrow minded and obsessed with the Rovers too.

Not really, if that were the case Ward would never have been accepted, I keep seeing this argument rattled out.  The point is he is anast piece of work

His career is a mixed bag

Took rovers from promotion certs to 7th place

    Relegated QPR

    Promoted QPR

Garden leave by QPR for courting Leicester

    Sacked QPR

    Plymouth  mid table

Resigns from plymouth after saying he was happy there  for Leicester

    Joins Leicester

    Relegates Leicester resigns

    Joins Blackpool, promotes Blackpool

    Relegates Blackpool

    Gets Blackpool to playoffs

    Resigns from Blackpool

Joins Palace, gets them up, but nearly blew it

Buys loads of players who he does not rate or can control then resigns.

Mixed bag, far more negatives than positives.  Yet people seem to want to blow sunshine out of his arse for a promotion with Blackpool and his gung ho approach to the Premier League team for 1 season.... which ended in relegation

  12. Because he could do a good job for the club as manager.

He could equally do a shite job. his record is as bad as it is good, added to the jumping ship qualities he has when stating he is happy where he is.

Not only is he rightly disliked by a lot of city fans, he is disliked by many other fans for poor management and lying about his true intentions.

    Steer well clear

  13. No matter who was employed as our Manager I would just have to accept it, I could not just sat 'that's it I'm off, as much as I may want to it wouldn't work, as it wouldn't I suppose all that say that's it, no more City, I mean how can you turn your back on real family?

Loyalty is what makes us City fans, we are not plastic supporters , not the supporters of a team that won the Premier League last May, and switching to the team that look like winning it this May...We are in for the long ride wherever we are taken and whoever is in charge at the time.

So enough of this BS about not going, won't listen on the radio etc etc, 'cus you know you will that's why you are a  City fan and not Man U, Chelsea or whoever next . :city:

Not true, I am not going while the Lansdowns are in charge, and I haven't been since I made that statement.  if holloway comes in, that is away games off the list as well. That is how much I feel about it.

Is is everything any city supporter should despise

  14. So only when no cameras are around eh?

I'll go with what I have seen him say and how he has behaved.

And I applauded him when he came out at AG and he applauded the stand back by the way.

Pretty sure you (like me) did and said some things in the past that we regret. Particularly 23 years ago.

23 years ago 15 years ago 7, 3 and 2 years ago, he hasn't changed.  He would like you to believe he has, unfortunately I have been on the end of it twice and witnessed it the other times.  Only once  was what he said warranted.  So i will go with my personal experience of the guy, over the media trained version of the guy.
