Nice intro @havanatopia, but I’m afraid you lost your credibility when you said you had green cords. Have you no self respect?

I know right. Those were the days tho. We had a bright yellow velvet sofa, Dad had an XL silver MK3 Corrina and older brother massive gold platform shoes...Spandau Ballet and Madness playing on the Rotel system... Crackin 80's.

  3. Well folks, I thought I would give this a go inspite of feeling rather miffed with football. I would say we are all feeling the blues.

I suspect a fair number of us over 45ers can remember the day we got a result in the cup at the City ground. I am saying this from pure memory. The most vivid part of the trip north was when we scored, someone help me out and say who - Barnard?, I was at the front of the long stand. I jumped for joy ripping a 6' gash in my new green cords. Plus a bit of blood later I recovered my sense of balance and thought for a while we were invincible.

Not felt that way until we were promoted with Stevie C to be fair. Or perhaps for a smidgeon when Korey got that goal v Man U.

An away win bizarrely puts us back, sort of, into the mix.

I shall not wait up but look forward to reading this forum match day tomorrow post by post and feel the anticipation, the glory, the dullness.... Shall I end there?.

    Night all.

It’s clear that covid risks a lot more than flu does, also like you said there are vaccines for those.

Measles for example is normally 0 or 1 deaths per a year in the uk.

Flu kills around 10k a year in the uk, we have hit triple that With covid in a few months with absolutely no clear sign when or how it will end.

If football starts again without a vaccine and fans attending there will be quite a lot of people who simply won’t go. Someone with it sitting in a stand could infect a load of people.

90% of those who have passed away are over 80 and a higher percentage than that had an underlying condition.

It is total muppetry that the world has to stop for everyone.

Scotland extend lockdown for another 3 weeks

    Good. Serves em right.

So will England and Wales shortly. Sturgeon grandstanding again.

I would very surprised if Boris follows that Muppet up north.

No chance. Boris letting us out of prison from Monday and rightly so. Sturgeon can do one.

I do have a particular dislike for that woman so anything disparaging said about her gets my support.

You realise we're still a month shy of how long Wuhan was in lockdown? And new medical study is suggesting Europe/US has been hit my a mutation of the virus so worse here than in Asia

Known as the G strain... Which is far more prevalent than the D strain experienced mostly in Asia... Even more reason why the lockdowns down here are somewhat over the top. The Philippines have done a puny number of tests so have absolutely no clue and give out numbers which are clearly a miniscule of reality. That said it's not the G strain, as far as we know, the lockdown came too late, March 15th, so it is a complete waste of time.

  6. The Premier League season will be completed in June at the FA’s St George’s National Football Centre (NFC), with players from every club staying at local hotels under lock-down, according to sources who spoke to the SKWAWKBOX.

The FA is arranging hotels for each club, but only players and staff will be there – players will be apart from their families for the duration of what will become effectively a World Cup-style finish to the season.

  7. I don't see any point whatsoever in a vaccine being considered a silver bullet. Like flu this is already mutating in, by one report, 30 variants and yet flu still kills upwards of 600,000 a year.

No vaccine for the common cold

There’s no guarantee a vaccine will be found. Life will be very different for now

It's a pity we do not have a world leader right now who can stamp their authority on this and take a lead. We are seeing a speeded up transferring of power from the USA to China because of that and because of this lockdown.

Bloody disgrace if footballers are being checked ahead of  key workers. Seems money talks if this were to happen before every key worker had been tested

I very much doubt it is either or.

On the day we smash the European record for daily fatalities, just  hoping someone, somewhere very soon steps up to the plate in Government.

They just seem to be floundering.

Fed up of them pinning responsibility on the ‘experts’.

Struth, you’re our leaders. Unless, evidence is provided to the contrary, these ‘experts’ led to the Country being massively under-prepared equipment-wise despite having 10 weeks to get PPE supply chains in place, to Government ministers advising that it’s ok to have person to person contact provided you washed your hands, delaying the shut down until after the horse has bolted and still, not adequately testing and tracing, and yes, still allowing flights to come in from Virus hot spots with no friggin checks at the airport.

A chap I know who works in a senior position in the NHS says it’s mind boggling the number of changes made to policy daily. He’s struggling to keep up with the changes.

Fine, listen to your ‘experts’ but critically challenge their advice FFS - that’s what you’re there for and are paid handsome to deliver. Clearly, the Government seem incapable of asking their ‘experts’ the right questions. This is what leadership is about!

For me it’s a pretty hopeless performance to date. I’d drop my previous score down to 2/10 now .

blockquote widget - those two words just appeared and has me scratching my head so will leave it to mull.

I was going to say one thing about your post...arhh yes ... The govt originally adopted the Oxford Medical Institute (maybe wrong name) advisory for the lockdown etc but then dropped it for Imperial College... From what I have read the preparedness plan was better suited to Oxford. They changed to Imperial because they said unless you do this, this and this you could have 250,000 deaths... I may have that number wrong; the point being I think whatever the huge figure was focused govt minds too much, they panicked and changed course. I think the estimate then and especially now was a wholely irresponsible one.

  9. Here is my thought of the day..

The govt covers 80% of one's salary. This is a fairly generous amount and quite an incentive to stay at home regardless of a shut down.

This month the govt are looking at bringing in the 100,000 or so seasonal, predominantly East European, labourers to harvest our food crops. Does this not portent to importing the potential covid 19 in far greater numbers from countries who may not be doing the same rigourous lock downs?

Back to the 80% figure; a huge disincentive to be a part time food harvester and help in the national effort... Hence why we need those foreign labourers.

Seems to me the govt has pandered to public demand and paid out an over generous emergency fund while not considering the implications. This being just one.

Damned if they do and don't.

    Maybe that's more likely.

I had them flagged for selling off the ground to recoup their money by this point and then selling what was left of the club on eBay so I've been proven wrong on that score.

If they are 24 million in debt I am afraid the sale of their ground won't nearly be enough to clean that slate and by a long chalk.

How would you punish them?  Would you not want proof that it was started intentionally first? Or would you punish them anyway?

What a rather impertinent question. As far as I am concerned China is on this map of the world of ours simply to be punished. There should be absolutely no questioning of this exercise. It should be carried out with precision and decisiveness leaving the rest of us more healthy and happy.
