  1. Indeed, and whilst it was a different sport and a World Cup Final to boot, a former President of Pakistan warned England to beware a wounded animal, specifically a tiger. And he was right.
  2. Ascot United: FA Vase winner submits stadium upgrade plan At the risk of a slight derailing of the thread, and following on from a previous thread somewhere on the forum, wouldn't the headline read (and sound) better as? Ascot United: FA Vase winners submit stadium upgrade plan
  3. The penalty that followed 90 seconds later changed the course of the game and the mood of the fans. Shaun Taylor, the dependable home captain, made what looked like an innocuous challenge on Peter Ndlovu, who, it was argued, went down too theatrically. The referee Mike Dean was well placed and had no apparent doubts. Grainger scored from the spot.
  4. Or even eighth and just a single point away from the playoffs, with a not dissimilar goal difference to the team in sixth place.
  5. You do surprise me. I am sure you are right, but I am amazed it has been so long and, for me, so unnoticed.
  6. Anybody watching Somerset's live streams will have come across and, hopefully (I am sure!), enjoyed Harry Everett's commentary and jovial interaction with his fellow commentatators and guests. To my pleasant surprise, the interesting and amusing reporter/commentator on today's BBC Championship blog was none other than our own Harry Everett. He was very good.
  7. Was it Livermore (playing for Derby?), who got Antoine Semenyo sent off a few seasons ago?
  8. That’s how I prepare mine. Parboiled, then halved and fried in olive oil with poitrine fumée and onions, with a few halved walnuts added towards the end.
  9. I like Brussels sprouts, with bacon (or poitrine fumée) as mentioned above, with added walnuts. I also like parsnips, either roasted alongside the potatoes (and carrots) or, with some swede, added to boiled potatoes and mashed.
  10. A very nice dish, but something you can easily make at home for a fraction of the price. We have our foie gras ready, pre-ordered and purchased from the local butcher, which we shall enjoy with smoked salmon later this evening. I appreciate that a lot of people decline to eat foie gras on principle, as with veal, but both are widely accepted and enjoyed over here.
  11. Firstly, what exactly is meant by free? ‘For fans: We propose free viewing of all Super League matches’ Does this mean ‘free to air’, i.e. available on BBC or ITV, or on satellite/cable TV (which still requires a paid subscription), but not ‘pay per view’? Whatever, ‘free to air’ or ‘free’ satellite/cable, it will inevitably change once (they hope) people become interested. Secondly, in so far as it concerns English football, i.e. The Premier League, instead of becoming embroiled in a long, drawn out legal process, why can’t they just say to teams that they are free to join should they wish, but the fixture list, be it League matches, FA or League Cups, will not change to accommodate you. Accordingly, should you find yourself engaged in a Super League match that clashes with a Premier League match, that is your concern and your concern only. It is for you to decide whether or not to fulfil the PL fixture, with a reserve team if need be, or to forfeit the three points available, in addition to incurring the accompanying fines etc. Our League, our rules….
  12. For some reason, I always thought he had Barbadian origins. Well, of course, I checked, and I see he is a Denbighshire boy, born in Bodelwyddan.
  13. I really can’t remember when and/or where I read it, but I was convinced the fee was £2M, of which £700K was a non-refundable loan fee. Hence, should we wish to make the deal permanent, the outstanding balance of £1.3M would be due.
  14. No doubt we shall find out next month, but my guess is that we shall be trying to get LM’s old central midfielder from Oxford, Brannagon I believe his name is. I daresay talks have already started.
  15. I had almost forgotten about him. I do recall, though, that there were many on here and elsewhere suggesting that 'our management' had made an horrendous error in letting him leave after his loan spell at Wimbledon (notwithstanding that it was, I believe, his own choice and preference in order to get regular first team football). A similar outcry ensued when we released Louis Britton - where is he now?
  16. As did a more local referee, a certain Mr. Hamer, who had the misfortune to officiate a Gloucestershire Cup Final between City and Rovers.
  17. I think you are mistaken there. The Mayflower is a Chinese restaurant near to Bristol Bus Station, as @Robbored and several others on here will confirm.
  18. To be fair to GT, he does put in some very good crosses.
  19. I remember it well and it was one of my favourite games. First match of the season, Sunderland playing in grey and, to cap it all, I got Mick McGiven’d autograph.
  20. I thought that was the restaurant I remembered and, now you mention going downstairs to reach it, my memory is confirmed . Glad you enjoyed your meal.
  21. I note that you are using the tekniccal spelling of his name, but I agree with your comment and also question why he has effectively been promoted to a position for which he proved unequivocally unsuitable just a few (Well, almost twenty) years ago. I think it is a great shame that he now appears to have vacated a position in which he has achieved some impressive successes, and I just hope that the Club don't pay for what I consider to be a series of extremely questionable, short-sighted and, dare I say, impetuous decisions.
  22. A bargain for a player who now knows the Club and whose value must surely now be in excess of the original £2M price, especially having already effectively made a down payment of £700K.
  23. Another favourite of mine was 'With a Girl like You', although I loved the title of 'I am the Waitress' on their Magical History Tour album.
