  1. Unnervingly, he looks eerily like Gavin Williamson. I hope, for his sake, the similarity ends there.
  2. It would certainly be a shame if this match were to be postponed. Following an impressively quick and vigorous selection process, Mr Ashton was intending to present his newly signed manager from Manchester United no less, the wonderful human being and up and coming star coach, Kieran McKenna.
  3. I assume that was in the longer version of the interview, as I only listened to the abridged version. Would you be able to provide a brief summary or indicate at roughly what time it appears? Thanks
  4. Wow! I assume you are referring to the Emerson Green branch. If so, that really surprises me: it is my supermarket of choice whenever I am back in the UK, and I have always found the people there, staff and customers alike, to be very warm and friendly.
  5. I said the same thing about Olivia Newton-John many years ago.
  6. Ha, you mean the £50,000 that Tom G 'demanded' from the Supporters Club? I thought the SC were intending to finance some gym equipment for use by, inter alia, the youth players.
  7. What a shame we can't practise First Class cricket during our prime summer months.
  8. RMC Sport - a satellite/cable sports channel, concentrating mainly on football. I wouldn't say he is necessarily 'on the radar' over here, rather that the article was of minority interest - similar to that young Scottish footballer (whose name I can't remember) who left Nottingham Forest to play in Germany and came back recently to play for Sheffield United.
  9. One of my favourite cricketers growing up, and later an umpire and neighbour, was Mervyn Kitchen.
  10. Apparently Pat Cummins is out - he came in to close contact with somebody infected with COVID.
  11. Pretty good comments from that thread: 1. Incredible really given all the credit he had in the bank after doing so well in the summer. 2. Wasn't the main thing he did in the summer telling us how well he'd done in the summer? Or do you still think he deserves credit for all the hard work he put into bringing this shower into the club?
  12. I share your view and am sure keeping threads on topic is not mandatory; I hope not, as I am probably one of the biggest culprits for deviation from the original topic. A propos yesterday's COVID thread, I am not sure the thread going off topic was the underlying reason it was locked, rather the gratuitous insults.
  13. No excuse really, supported financially by two directors.
  14. I know he is not to everybody's taste, but one CD that gets an airing every Christmas is a Phil Spector compilation of Christmas hits, including such old favourites as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.

    SPOTY

I have met him, several years ago, in a restaurant in Paris, and he was very warm, humble and self-deprecating. His (now) wife, however....

I can only assume you have not met Andy Murray in person.
  17. A nice, touching story for anybody interested: https://news.sky.com/story/pick-up-a-pen-pal-penguins-make-new-friends-during-christmas-care-home-visit-12495396
  18. Honestly, no disrespect, but: Bridgwater vs Manchester United. On a totally different, but related, topic, I wonder how many National newspapers/sites would have misspelled the name of the home team.
  19. I agree entirely. We must surely be free from any threat of relegation, so why waste money on loans unless: 1. They are on loan with a realistic intention to purchase (and improve) for next season, or 2. Heaven forbid, results in the next few games suggest there might be just an outside chance of a play off spot.
  20. It's on Thursday, Wimbledon Magistrates' Court. Here is a preview from one of the Rovers forums: In last week's match, a rare international fixture for Rovers, a very professional defence performance blunted the opponents attacks and saw off the former Barnsley manager in a game that so lacked excitement that some of the very small crowd fell asleep This week's match, against an opponent who has proved difficult to pin down, promises to be more emotive. The venue in South London is much closer to home, and appears likely to require a much more sophisticated tactical approach from the Rovers manager - something for which he has hitherto not been particularly known The build-up has so far been subdued, but tensions in the Rovers camp are likely to be growing, and this has the potential to upset the fans. It's another big week ahead for Rovers..
  21. Bells! That’s quite classy. Over here it’s bottles of cheap (red or rosé) wine, cans of extra strong lager or, if they do stretch to whisky, some cheap, unheard of label from LIDL etc.
