  1. You may recognise this French dish, known as Brandade, which is a sort of fish pie made from Morue (salt cod), potatoes (it was originally made with just warm milk instead of the potatoes) and (lots of) olive oil and garlic. What you may not know, however, is that the dish does not originate from the Atlantic coast, but, rather, from the ancient Roman, land-locked town of Nimes, close to the French Mediterranean Sea (full of lovely fish, but no cod). As long ago as the 16th Century, French fishermen would land their catch of Atlantic cod (Canada, Newfoundland) in the southern French ports, and transport them to the Nimes region where they would exchange their catch for salt, necessary to preserve the fish on its long journey. The dried, salted cod was, of course, ideal for storage in the hot and dry climate of Southern France, and, so the story goes, a local chef came up with the idea of mashing the dried cod with a mortar and mixing it with milk to make this lovely dish. It is not only Brandade that originated in Nimes, however; so did the cotton used in your lovely jeans - Cotton de Nimes.
  2. I’m sorry to read about your loss @Ben6781, but, from reading through this thread, it seems your problems are only just beginning. Your new storage area is going to have to be huge ?. Good Luck and Well Done all the generous contributors.
  3. You can include me in that description.
  4. You might have seen the post to which I was referring, it may even have been you who posted it ?, but I think it was in reference to some journalist's match report where he described VH in such terms.
  5. Is that the same 6’2” Vince Harper, who loves a tackle and used to play for City?
  6. Getting back to the subject of young Bethell, if, as I understand it, he was signed on a one match loan, does that mean he is now going to play for Warwickshire Seconds now. It seems such a waste of a wonderful young talent if that is the case.
  7. But could she get her teams to win in men’s football, proper football? ? ?
  8. Indeed, and only for this one match, I believe. Nevertheless, I doubt many Glos. fans ever thought otherwise.
  9. Thanks, and now you remind me, that is how I remember it ?. Oh, and now I think about it, I recognise (remember) the relevance of Trevor Brooking ?.
  10. Quite possibly, it was several years ago ?. Whatever, I remember getting the question right, after many ‘No, don’t tell me’ requests, and I still wonder how many (younger than us) would get it right today. Incidentally, how was the question worded and how does Trevor Brooking fit in to the answer?
  11. You’ve lost me there. Congratulations on your win, by the way. A shame ‘Jordan’ no longer posts on here.
  12. I remember getting the answer (after much thought) to the FA Cup football question: ’What do Villa and Sunderland have in common?’ I wonder how many would get it today, without resorting to Google?
  13. Very much my feelings, although I watched today’s final. I am very pleased I did - I thought it was an excellent match.
  14. Presumably, they’ll play in blue next time - should they reach another cup final, and should he still be in charge.
  15. But, with Scott and now Harris gone, the hard work might just have eased a bit (mentally).
  16. Don't worry, he's apparently back on now. Gregory saying that you needn't have bothered - he has just knocked out Zak Chappell's middle stump with an excellent delivery. Glos now 8, effectively 9, down if GvB is unable to bat - Jack L has just got Bethell LBW.
  17. Spotted as a youngster in Barbados some years ago and given a scholarship by Warwickshire. He certainly looks promising.
  18. Who was the commentator with the broad Bristolian accent? He sounded as if he might have been an ex-Rovers player. He certainly sounded as if he was a Rovers supporter ?.
  19. Apparently ?, 8 pages and counting. https://gaschat.co.uk/thread/19697/barton-favourite-next-burnley-manager
  20. We all have different memories, but mine was: ‘When we get promotion, This is what we’ll sing, We all love you, We all love you, Galley is our King.’ Still, whatever floats your boat.
  21. Two questions about this match. Firstly, who is commenting on the live feed? Secondly, I have not been to The County Ground for decades, but would anybody be kind enough to let me know the identity of the large imposing stone building on one side of the ground?
  22. Ton Abell just dropped by Hammond at second slip; a regulation catch in to his hands then out again. Abell had already started walking, when he must have heard the groans and returned to the crease.
  23. Another fortunate guess. Wordle 328 3/6 ?? ??? ?????
  24. Obviously, I got the first letter right with my first attempt, but after my second attempt had had four vowels refused. As I said, it was then just a fortunate inspired guess.
  25. Leeds cynicism was certainly disappointing, especially when, as you say, they had such a great team/squad - I know you were referring to out and out goal scorers, but they also had occasional scorers such as Giles and Bremner, Jack Charlton, Terry Cooper and, of course, our very own ? Norman Hunter. I do agree, though, about the fans and, for that reason if no other, would have a wry smile were they to be relegated.
