Good bench that, hold out for the first half then go counter with subs..

Their captains brother was a decent boxer- Louie and Tommy were staying at the same hotel as me a few years back ahead of his fight with Chris Algieri in Tenerife…. Great bunch of lads, but a brutal training camp by what it looked like- running up the Tenerife hills at 6am

I think we’re a team with quite a few young players - especially in forward positions.  Young players are inconsistent by their nature. Today was inconsistent. We shouldn’t think we’re going to be world beaters every week.

Who the hell thinks we are going to be world beaters every week? I long for the day when we look like we are remotely far superior than our opposition

I honestly thought that Pearson and the recruitment team would have a plan A, B, C and D in the event that Scott was sold and a player would be in the door a couple days later.

Lack of Goals and creativity was a worry anyway and without Scott, we are very predictable and easy to play against - especially at home.

Big couple of weeks ahead, but I’m not confident that Pearson will be well backed by the club.

So did I- maybe they still do and trying to get plan b transfers over the line, I guess the concern for me is aside from Thomason their hasn’t been too much speculation on potential targets, I also agree with you that I don’t think much will be made available for him.

Said that Benarous is looking very good in training and has recovered exceptionally well. Expects him to play in the behind closed doors friendly.

That’s brilliant news and a timely boost ahead of the new season- obviously not expecting him to be in match day squads to start with but hopefully if no setbacks he may be in contention after the first international break or is that wishful thinking?

In my memory he tended to sit deep in the midfield, picking the ball up off the CBs and spreading it simply to get us moving. Not unlike, indeed, Skuse  and later, Pack. The occasional Hollywood diagonal went astray, but not that often.

At the time he got dogs abuse from many around me, which I didn’t understand. He wasn’t a star but he was a very dependable cog in the machine.

Absolutely and I had the same sat around me as well

Without being rude or critical, that probably sums up how you might watch a game…the focus on the end action, not what happened to get there.

Thats not a problem, we all watch games differently, and there is no right or wrong way to watch a game.

As much as there maybe was some nepotism between father and son, I still don’t think Gary would’ve picked his son as much as he did if it was detrimental.  He might have had some blinkers on, it might’ve influenced how his teams played, but his players would’ve soon let him know if they thought Lee was shit and not worthy of his place.

I’m very mixed on LJ, but as Silvio said, he was an integral part of a team that almost went up automatically.  I don’t think a team like Bristol City at that time could carry any player.

For all of us that like Cotts, you could draw a comparison with Wade Elliott in 15/16….we missed that player to do the simple stuff, to give and goes, keep the ball moving, etc.  LJ did that.

It is a player-type that most City / football fans under appreciate….yet so many pro managers have them in their teams.

    What does that tell us?

Spot on post Dave and reflects my thoughts on LJ as a player, the role he played in that team that got to the play off final meant he was never a regular 8 or 9 out of ten stand out performer, but he kept possession very well and was extremely busy and hard working in the space between the final thirds

I can see why Alex would love to play for Spurs as the team he supports but that would really be a bad move for him as he may not get the game time he needs to develop.

All the talk about Wolves and Bournemouth is interesting, but I still think that West Ham will come in with a late offer with the money from selling Declan Rice burning a hole in their pocket.

For Alex himself at his age, money should not be his main concern.  He needs to go somewhere he is likely to get game time or stay put for another year and continue his development here.

I agree ref Spurs, in respect to West Ham, they seem to have Zakaria and Ward-Prowse high on their wish list.

Also they are very keen on Maguire which if they pull off will be a big move on wages.

Yet this was he bloke who was in charge of a JET-inspired Doncaster that tore us a new one at AG

Yeah I remember that game really well apart from the final score from memory was it 5-3 to them, and wasn’t that the start of our dislike to Billy Sharp?
