  1. I know @gornagain pointed this out to me, I have no excuse and it's very unlike me to get something like that wrong. Too late to correct it now though, so I guess it may be brought up come judgement day.
  2. There is an argument to say that they should mention the academy successes, even if that is after they have left the club. I seem to remember posting those lovely pics of the Joe and Bobby in the U10's, I think it's a good thing to celebrate.
  3. Well there is no evidence of the contrary. Even in the Pitchfork article only one of the complainants says they were forced and even then says that in hindsight they felt forced. Again Mandy Smith was 13, all the people in this case are 18+. I still feel that there has to be more than allegations that have not even gone to the authorities before someone gets "cancelled".
  4. Yes the 3 day week was in place at the time and we used to get a list if times when the power would go off. I remember listening for an update on the score after a day out with my mum and dad, so presumably he was not working either. My guess is that Elland Road was due an outage that evening. I worked with a Leeds fan who remembered the game and the 5 mile miserable walk home because there were no buses.

  6. The one thing I will add, because it always comes up, no one was really "surprised" that he was let go. He was in year 4 of a 3 year plan, he had tried a very attacking style, then he tried tempering it with a more defensive style. In my opinion some terrible football was played toward the end of his reign, with 2 full backs in midfield and long ball tactics, we spent long periods of games waiting for a Tinnion 50 yarder or a Bell free kick. But we never looked any further forward, we didn't progress beyond being a big fish in a small pond, so much money for that level wasted to a great extent, people moan about the amount of money LJ had at his disposal, but on a Third league scale at the time, we were ******* Man City. We should have pissed it at least one of the seasons he had.
  7. Or that £250k a year is a bit above what the average Joe earns and could get you something pretty nice here.... (Not in Portishead obviously, we are all seriously loaded down here ?)
  8. You're wasting your time, his arguments for DW get shot down on every thread he raises them on. He then "forgets" these points or claims that how he remembers thing are actually more pertinent than facts.

  10. Was this supposed to go in the County Championship thread?
  11. Of all the games I watched last season, the worst ones where were we gave fringe 1st teamers a run out. Whether it's to do with the players not knowing each other well enough, the younger players leaving responsibility to the experienced ones or just that they find it hard to motivate themselves at that level, or combination of factors I don't know. The funny thing is that in last couple of seasons watching the U23's (as was) was often better than watching the first team, more vitality, more urgency and a good team ethic, I don't think that has changed much, it's just that the first team have gone beyond that in the first few games and the U21's I have watched have seemed paler in comparison.
  12. "Shutting up shop" is a tried and tested method of seeing out games. I think our issue is that we don't really have the personnel to do it properly. Just adding another body in midfield isn't going to help unless they are a defensively minded player. Adding an additional centre half, which we have also done in games, just seems to confuse the rest of the defence as to who is responsible for what. I do feel to some extent it is working better though, with 3 clean sheets already this season compared to 6 in the whole of last season. We didn't get our first clean sheet until September, ironically (considering their start to this season) with a 0-0 home draw with Preston. If you look at the Championship tables every year though, those teams with low figures in the against column are often hard to find. 18 teams averaged more than a goal a game against, with Sheffield Utd, WBA and Millwall all conceding 45. Even Champions Fulham conceded 43. It's just a really difficult league for defenders.
  13. Judging by some of the transfer fees paid for players that are 29+ it certainly seems that the coaches think so.
  14. No but they flew to Boro last season. Hull isn't that bad a journey really, not a big difference to Blackburn for example. I believe this will be happening. The players are also having a rest until Wednesday this week, which is a good idea considering the hectic start to the season.
  15. That's huge isn't it? The encouragement to stay is massive, it's putting him so far ahead of many of his contemporaries at international level.
  16. He also claims the Premier League standard is dropping outside "the top 4", and yet results and current standings suggest the complete opposite.
  17. Is this right? Will the Preston game be his 50th Championship game already?
