  1. "Shutting up shop" is a tried and tested method of seeing out games. I think our issue is that we don't really have the personnel to do it properly. Just adding another body in midfield isn't going to help unless they are a defensively minded player. Adding an additional centre half, which we have also done in games, just seems to confuse the rest of the defence as to who is responsible for what. I do feel to some extent it is working better though, with 3 clean sheets already this season compared to 6 in the whole of last season. We didn't get our first clean sheet until September, ironically (considering their start to this season) with a 0-0 home draw with Preston. If you look at the Championship tables every year though, those teams with low figures in the against column are often hard to find. 18 teams averaged more than a goal a game against, with Sheffield Utd, WBA and Millwall all conceding 45. Even Champions Fulham conceded 43. It's just a really difficult league for defenders.
  2. Judging by some of the transfer fees paid for players that are 29+ it certainly seems that the coaches think so.
  3. No but they flew to Boro last season. Hull isn't that bad a journey really, not a big difference to Blackburn for example. I believe this will be happening. The players are also having a rest until Wednesday this week, which is a good idea considering the hectic start to the season.
  4. That's huge isn't it? The encouragement to stay is massive, it's putting him so far ahead of many of his contemporaries at international level.
  5. He also claims the Premier League standard is dropping outside "the top 4", and yet results and current standings suggest the complete opposite.
  6. Is this right? Will the Preston game be his 50th Championship game already?
  7. Timewasting I would think.... He went to get the ball for a goalkick, but stopped to relieve himself that could took ages.
  8. I haven't followed it that closely as regards to where players play at club level recently, but there was a time when U21s almost all seemed to come from the Championship. Was Brennan Johnson playing U21s last season? Tomori? If so I don't think it's a barrier, Southgate has been quoted saying he would even pick senior team players from the Championship if he thought they were good enough
  9. I think the club should take a leaf out of Pompey's book and offer 20/19/18 game season tickets and so on. That way you will hit people's sweet spot at some point, and the attendances will build up over that period between now and Xmas.
  10. Do we think he might get moved up an age group at international level this time around?
  11. Not making it easy for me are they? I still think the next three will be the test, I would fancy us in all the games individually, but all in the same week means reaching and maintaining a very high level. At least we have a good break after (except for those on international duty).
  12. I like his consistency, the front three have done their jobs so even a star like Antoine now has to wait his turn, it must make a lad like Conway feel ten feet tall. Anyway..... Perhaps we can get the club to play this at games?
  13. https://www.brfcs.com/forums/topic/36330-v-bristol-city-h-3922/ Nice to see so many positive comments about us in their match day thread. It starts with the usual positivity about their own team, but once the game starts posts start to emerge saying how good we are. Perhaps more surprisingly they pick out individuals who are playing well. They have their own 18 year old midfield player (Wharton) whom they rate highly, but they point out that Scott is "next level" in comparison. They also make the point that he is paired with experience in James rather than another teenager (Morton). All in all it's a pleasant read, not at all one-eyed and makes s change from complaints about "game management", biased refs etc.
  14. The way we have set up has taken some pressure off him. By pushing him further forward and having Atkinson coming over into a left back position, he is less susceptible to those long diagonal balls that teams were using to expose his lack of height. It means he can concentrate on his strengths.
  15. They do realise that time is added on for that sort of thing?
  16. The whole thing is a bit odd. The downpipe doesn't appear to above a drain, so I think that when they realised the design flaw that they have had to add that trip hazard to the bottom of it to stop water gathering and seeping under the door.
  17. They didn't for Wycombe in the cup.
