Today is the day I’ve finally come to the conclusion, i have zero faith in Nigel Pearson.

Ok he has had no money to spend, but we haven’t improved one single bit in any area if the park, and we’re not about to anytime soon.

Ask me who we bring in next, the answer is ???

A lot of people thought it was a good idea to get rid of Boris Johnson, be careful what you wish for

  2. The trouble with rearranged fixtures is you might have booked something else that day thinking there was no football, as was the case with us so 2 more season ticket holders not attending

  3. Personally I wouldn't swap any of those for Alex Scott, he's a far more complete player than any of them. Surprised Bob Taylor missing and Andy Cole both excellent strikers.

Jacki was very good technically but had quiet games where he disappeared, opponents could mark him out of games and he'd lose interest, Tomlin was the same. JET was too good for League 1 but not good enough for the Championship. Trundle only had two or three good games for us otherwise was disappointing.

If you're not including current players then Cole was the best in the last 30 years, went on to play at the top levels both for club and country.

  4. Our defence looked much better last season when Klose came in as the central defender of the three so it remains an option to bring him back there once fit. However it would be difficult for him to play alongside Naismith as neither have much pace.

I would be tempted to bring in Kalas in the middle once he's available, if he's the last man then he has a chance of covering Naismith's errors the only problem would be who to drop, Atkinson and Vyner are both playing well. I don't think it can be left as it is as all our three losses have included mistakes by KN and there have been other games where he's made bad errors but got away with it. As Dean Smith said in his pre-match interview promotion sides have to be based on a solid defence, we can't expect to consistently score three goals to get us out of trouble, particularly in away matches.

Which pod was that?  I follow Conor Southwell (Pink’un pod), AlongCameNodge and Adam Brandon, and they’re usually quite good on their opposition / general champ stuff.

Aarons at RB is of course a very good player at this level, but Sunderland (in a recent game) peeled Sims or Stewart into the channel off of the RCB2 (Omobamidele) and caused them lots of problems by hitting more direct passes over their midfield.  Norwich were quite sloppy that game, plus Byram at LB is really a RB.

It was the Pink'un, I found it on NewsNow but not there now, perhaps they read my post!

  6. Interesting listening to one of their podcasts with local journalists, they think we won't stay near the top as we have no "stand out" players and their full back will be able to attack more as we have "no wingers" although they did mention TC's award although they didn't seem to know anything about him. You'd have thought they'd know about Andy Weiman with his 22 goals last season even if they weren't aware of Scott, Sykes Semenyo etc

In some ways I am more worried about how we will get on at Burnley. We will have done a lot of travelling and played on a Wednesday. Burnley have had a local derby on a Tuesday night. Not really a fair contest on the freshness front.

I watched the Preston v Burnley last night and didn't think Burnley were that special, Brownhill probably their best player but it will be a test for us

  8. The football authorities were always going to get stick whatever they decided. If they'd gone ahead what would have happened if some officials and/or players had withdrawn themselves as they weren't comfortable with it, some fans wouldn't have attended and there would also be the chance of inappropriate chanting, in other words a complete minefield. They took the safer option

  9. The squad has some quality players but as NP himself has said we're a bit thin in midfield and defence. The football at the moment is brilliant but we've been here before at the start of the season only to come unstuck in the winter months (particularly December-February) once injuries start to mount up, so I'm trying to keep my excitement in check until we've got through that period.

  10. Looking at the results in the paper I remember that season, we got off to a great start but sold Chris Garland to Chelsea early on (that's when a young Peter Spiring started playing in his place) and we sadly slipped down the table.

I was a student in London at the time and remember going to those defeats at Millwall and QPR, the Millwall game we were on MOTD and played well but went down to an own goal by Dickie Rooks after about five minutes, we played some great stuff for the next hour and Spiring equalised, but then we scored another own goal and at the end they caught us on the break with a great goal from outside the box by Bolland. In the QPR game Rodney Marsh was at his peak and took Geoff Merrick to the cleaners (no disgrace), I actually enjoyed watching that game although we lost such was Marsh's ability at that time.
