  1. Only just saw this but wow what a lovely thread, well done everyone ?.  I generally have a very negative view of the internet and social media but have to admit that this shows it can also be a force for good sometimes.

Best wishes to you @Porto Red hope you’re in a better place soon and loads of respect for speaking up and asking for help, that’s true bravery even if it doesn’t feel like it right now

I`m surprised no-one`s mentioned the `display stand` at the Uni for Freshers` week.

Or their statement on Brexit after the referendum

If a Man City, Real, Barca etc came in for him and he rejected it because its safe to stay at Arsenal then I'd question that too.

The national team needs players playing at very highest level and in the very biggest games. Maybe then we won't keep choking big games.

Rice didn’t reject the move to Man City though did he?  West Ham rejected their bid because Arsenal are offering more.  You seem to be suggesting this is all on Rice but I haven’t seen that said anywhere

I had this conversation last week with my grandfather who turned around and commented that "what City need is a big target man up front". To which I explained they don't, and that football has now evolved on from the standard big lump up front. He had some understanding of my points but it's a different generation of fan use to a different generation of football. Just shows how much of an impact Pep has had on thee english game and how far we've now come!

It’s interesting how the way people see the game has evolved.  I think this is the main reason why certain more senior members of the crowd around me get very frustrated and continually shout “Forward!” when city are keeping possession and probing for an opening.  They just don’t get it

Not doubting the picture from the person who was there, but this has just been tweeted.

    Spot the difference.

(the club photo could be weeks old)

Definitely from last week, totally blue sky.  The newer picture with the grass has the cloudier sky from this week.

Twitter is unreliable as a ‘source’ with loads of wild speculation and complete bollocks. There’s only one 100% reliable way of guaranteeing that a player has signed for City - does anyone know what that is?………..:cool2:

Is it the Bristol city Twitter account?

Sounds like it’s going down the road of not happening. Like Derby are breaking the bank to steal him from us

That wouldn’t seem very clever of Derby seeing as they are still under financial restrictions until the end of the summer (although their embargo has been lifted).

Interesting some on here dismissing West Ham’s exploits this week. Would be amazing to see City in Europe in anyway possible.

I wonder why there isn’t a European competition for 2nd tier teams.  Perhaps it’s considered not enough of a money maker although there’s loads of decent sized clubs at our level here and in Europe so I think it would be popular with fans.

    Per the linked article:

"L’Équipe indicate that Cardiff are also critical of the role that agent Willie McKay reportedly played in the transfer, notably in organising the flight in question, while his son Mark held the mandate to sell Sala to a Premier League [club]. For the second-tier club [Cardiff], it was Willie McKay who was truly in charge, even though he could not act as an agent as part of his bankruptcy agreement – for Cardiff, what they consider to be “faults committed” by McKay are also Nantes’ responsibility, as a result of their “recklessness and negligence in executing the mandate […] and the duty of surveillance over their authorised representative.”"

Essentially Cardiff say that it was McKay and Nantes who organised everything, and that it was Nantes who should have made sure everything, including anything that McKay organised, was done properly.

So was McKay working for Nantes then? I’d assumed he was more closely associated with Cardiff as his son was playing for them at the time.   If he wasn’t employed by Nantes then I can’t see how they are responsible in any way.  Either way this is pretty disgusting behaviour from Cardiff.  I hope they go down and then bust next season.

There was nothing involved in that goal that would have led to a VAR decision. He beat two before sliding it home.

But you wouldn’t have known that at the time.    Something unseen by the behind the goal camera as in the videos above can rule a goal out.  Every action is reviewed by VAR.  The doubt in your mind would still be there (for on average 50 seconds)

Indeed it does, but the momentum lost in some situations may also have had significant impact..

It's not the point though, fans over exaggerate the time VAR takes and the benefit is a c. 8% increase in correct decisions.

It's not perfect, but it's absolutely better than not having it at all.

It’s a trade off , in exchange for an 8% increase in correct decisions (statistically of which half will go for you and half against so therefore no net gain) you forgo the split second joy of a goal.  I’m glad I didn’t have to wait (on average) 50 seconds after Christian Roberts’ goal against Hartlepool before really knowing it was going to count when it finally appeared on the big screen.

    Some points on this.

The average VAR decision is 50 seconds, the longest ever was 3 minutes and 40 seconds as of Jan 22.

We play in a league that doesn't have VAR and my enjoyment has been severely impacted by a number of absolute clangers this season. I am still not over that decision at Hull in the first weeks of the season. We might well have made the playoffs had we had VAR in the Championship.

That’s an 11 point swing.  Seems highly unlikely, all the wrong decisions would have to have been against us and none for us.  The Hull match still stings for me too but at least we can properly celebrate a goal when it comes.

  13. Good videos which give a good insight into VAR but to me it just illustrates how complex and technical it all has become and ignores the main issue - VAR detracts from the joy of the game.  Players and fans can’t properly celebrate a goal because there’s a good chance it’ll get chalked off after 5 minutes of micro analysing the TV footage.
