Morning mate, got a bit carried away with the celebratory post match drinks yesterday and missed this! Gassiev looked very decent in a good fight last night, although I had it closer than the 2 judges who gave it to him 116-111 and 116-112. Abel Sanchez really rates him and he does all his training in Big Bear with GGG. I haven't seen a great deal of him before last night and his previous fight with Jordan Shinmell but he beat a hard bugger in Lebedev last night and his power is very real as Shinmel will attest... 24-0 now and definitely one to watch for the future.

I totally agree; i think Paulie is one of the most insightful, intelligent callers of fights I've ever heard. At the same time, I can see why he would grate if you didn't like the cut of his jib and vicariously appreciate @Super's dislike of him! Look at this though, they guy is class imo

I'd say that was about the size of it- although I would suggest Haye will fight the winner of Parker v Ruiz next as he is the mandatory there, thus putting himself in a far more favourable negotiating position with Eddie if he goes on to make- and even co-promote- a late summer stadium unification bout with AJ. Bravo for 'full moron' too, an excellent description!

I agree with you. As Paulie Malignaggi was saying on the Sky commentary, Kovalev was applying the wrong sort of pressure and playing to Ward's strengths.

Yeah, Ward found a way to win as he always does. Like you after the first 2 rounds I thought Kovalev was going to walk it but Ward refused to be beaten. There seem to be quite a lot of people claiming it was a disgrace and a home decision but it was so close I don't think anyone could complain at the scores, or if the bout had gone the other way- although I had Ward 2 ahead. Tense, exciting fight- bring on the rematch.

Absolutely, Chilemba really frustrated him, although Kovalev claims that is because he was distracted fighting for the first time at home in Ekaterinburg since 2011. Sergey has a great jab, serious, serious power and is one of the best finishers in boxing if he does catch an opponent, but you just can't see Ward getting caught. No doubt Kovalev will be trying to bully, rough him up inside and pressurise him, but Ward is far too smart to get involved imo. Fights like this don't happen anything like often enough, 2 of the top 5 pound for pound boxers in the world putting their unbeaten records on the line. Can't wait.

I see where you're coming from mate but to me AJ v Molina is a far better fight than AJ v Breazeale and the undercard is far superior on 10/12 too. No-one really had the hump at shelling out for the Breazeale card; I guess because we thought we were going to see AJ v Wlad or Parker this time out it seems like we're being sold short now. If it all carries on going well for AJ we'll soon be complaining about PPVs from Vegas at 5 in the morning! The big one this weekend then, Kovalev v Ward, I can't wait! Who has everyone got? Ward on points imo, Kovalev is a much more intelligent boxer than people give him credit for, as well as being a wrecking ball but I just can't see him outwitting Ward who always seems to work everyone out in a round or two. It is easily the best fight of the year on paper though, on Sky from 0200 with ringwalks at 0400.
