Did you go to the Man Utd home game?

We essentially played with 2 false 9's that game in Reid and Paterson. As you mentioned, a benefit can be that a 3rd man run can be effective to get beyond the forwards into dangerous areas which is exactly what happened for both our goals that night. So I'm surprised you feel that players in that role steal a living given that night!

Here's LJ discussing that: Coaches' Voice | Lee Johnson (coachesvoice.com)

Or you could look at them as pivotal to the performance of others, e.g. Firminho at Liverpool, or when Barcelona played without a striker.

Reid when we played strikerless against Fulham too I think?

  3. Not sure he was being used in what would be his preferred position either.
Add to that him being a young, attacking minded player coming on when we didnt have a grip of the game and were under pressure.

Duran Duran keyboard player at Left Back.

    Boris’s son up-front.

Mark Thuo, let go by City in the summer, and I’ve heard of Liam Angel.

    Sam Kamara was at Rovers.

    Late coming to this.

Tumelty is a good player, bag of tricks, saw him and Jamie Adams when they were with BMF

Think Ricardo Rees was in Citys academy

    Tunnicliff was Brum academy.

The only defence of the ref i can give us that it’s a slight studs up lunge, and as the striker is through on goal it’s denying a chance and therefore a red.

    But it’s a shocker imho.

There's one angle where it looks like he gets the players foot first.

The others it looked a perfect challenge.

Think it's a tough decision for the ref, he clearly didn't think it was a foul at first viewing and was told something through his earpiece.

just got the game, torn between doing a City save or starting unemployed

doing a City save, was finding our transfer budget very limiting so offered Massengo to Arsenal for £10m with a 25% sell on fee (his value was listed as 8-10m), they then offered him back on loan for the season with no fee or wage contribution.

After a bizarre preseason where we scored 12 and conceded 11 in 4 friendlies (Guernsey one not counted) including throwing away a 5-1 lead against Leyton Orient to draw and a 3-0 lead to lose 3-4 at MK Dons the league started with a comfortable 3-0 against Blackpool with Massengo getting the assist for all 3, and the last goal being Alex Scott from 30 yards with his first touch as a sub.

It’s better than anything we’ve had though. Why can’t the club be proud of it. Not sure if any of our new signings are coming from Palace, Brighton or other premier league clubs with impressive training facilities.

    essentially this.

Atkinson signed from Oxford, his prior clubs (including loans) bar Fulham all likely to have worse training facilities than ours.
Tanner joined from Carlisle. Admittedly before that he was at Manchester Utd, but whether their youth facilities and training ones are together I dont know.

There's also an element of it saying to the players "we've just spent x million upgrading this, we want the money to have been put to good use and for it to help the club advance".

I'm sure we won't be saying it to players in 5 years time

We have to be careful banding names around from the u23s.  The reasons why the likes of Bell, Conway (when fit), Scott are up with the first team is because they are at a level above the ones who played the other day for the 23s, with the exception of Britton, who is trying to get fit enough to be park of it.

Understand that Dave, was just responding to someone asking who other young prospects might be.

James, I have seen 3 or 4 U23 games this season and Dylan has some lovely touches, but if people think Tyreeq is too laid back they would change their mind very quickly if they saw them on the pitch together.

I'm going to try and catch a few more. Almost every time they've had a game there's been something else that took priority for me. I'm just aware he's rated fairly highly.

Would like to see benarous even for a 20 min cameo at the end .

Anymore  highly thought of academy products we should be looking out for?

    Britton maybe?

Dylan Kadji is highly rated I believe.

Not sure we're likely to see him around the first time yet though.

While society assumes that everyone is straight until told otherwise, coming out is always going to be a fact of life for many people.

The assumption isn't necessarily an unreasonable one as the vast majority of people are straight, so long as the person is treated the same regardless.

Think a little cross purposes here. I support Josh Cavallo coming out, and hopefully he also gets the support needed because sadly there will be a minority of people who will use it to abuse him. But hoping that one day we can get to a point where it isn't needed for people, particularly those in a public to have to make a big statement, but are able to feel comfortable living their life as who they are anyway.

I havent articulated what I'm meaning very well though.

  11. Wasn't Justin Fashanu the first to 'come out' while playing?

Regardless, fair play to Josh Cavallo.

Hopefully we can one day get to a point where players are able to feel comfortable in football without the need to publicly 'come out', but unfortunately society isn't at that point yet.
