Precisely my worry, and the only solution really available to us at thus point would be a mirror of the Dolman and SS.

A "Kop" end would be really cool in the future, but we are never likely to have crowds big enough to justify that level of expense.

...unless the rumour is true about a new consortium is looking to buy out SL but it's all dependent on how the stadium can be increased in capacity going forwards.

(note: that was a rumour on another thread on OTIB - so nothing concrete)

  2. I think the rebuild of the Atyeo will be the ultimate challenge between making Ashton Gate look like an identi-kit stadium, or having an amazing feature\end that other clubs can be envious of.

IMO, and I've banged the drum a lot for this over the years, the Atyeo would be absolutely amazing as a huge single tiered stand, but would be reliant on removing the houses behind.

If we have a similar stand to the South Stand, it will just make Ashton too much of a flat pack stadium.

Fair play to Wrexham. Most fans of other clubs would love to be in their shoes. All the bitterness is laughable, as every division has a big spread of budgets already. Look at Sunderland’s years of trying to get out of League One.

...and to think the gas were i.e non-league with a billionaire owner!!

I can feel the green eyed monster coming on

I'm happy to say I've never wanted him out. (That's not to say I'm never wrong, I stuck with Johnson when in hindsight it was clear the rot had set in!)

I've met him whilst he's been manager and it was absolutely clear he had a great long term vision.

That included a scenario where we lost one or both of Scott and Semenyo. I jokingly told him not to let the pair of them leave, to which he replied "if they leave, we'll replace them and the level up the team". This was a last season, and that seems to have finally come to fruition now as Mehmeti looks a brilliant talent and adding Cornick will prove very shrewd I think. Assuming both have ultimately been funded by Semenyo - overall the squad does look stronger. I trust him to do the same with Scott if/when he leaves for big money in the summer.

He may have come to us at exactly the right time - he needed to have a degree of autonomy that he wouldn't have had under Ashton. I doubt he'd have joined if Ashton was still here. It's clear he has a strong working relationship with Gould and Tinnion.

I think actually, at this stage of his managerial career, he may enjoy the challenge of it. He's spent a fair amount of time at clubs with big resources for their relative level (namely Leicester in the Championship) and this represents a totally different kind of challenge. I bet he's relishing all the success he's enjoying with our academy.

I think Ashton was here when NP joined.

I’ve done this before and it’s not original but…

If we were to merge the Gas can keep the ‘ Bristol ‘ part of their name and we keep ‘ City ‘, the new club would be known as ‘ Bristol City ‘ .

    Nooooooooooooooooo!!!

You just need to state, take the Red from our kit, the White from their kit....and also rename the South Stand after Mickey Bell, and you've got a Full House!

    Agggggggghhhhhh

  6. To me, with all the departures of players, it now feels like the beginning of Nigel Pearsons reign. Up til now he's had his hands tied massively, and now he finally has that wriggle room start moulding his own squad.

It's not gonna happen straight away this summer, but one would hope that giving him three transfer windows from now on would give us a competitive team to push for the top 6 in a season or two.

Until now, he's been given him the benefit of doubt. From now on is when I think he'll be truly judged.

Whilst I appreciate your logic, and the fact your proposal makes sense, I wouldn't give those c.nuts the steam off my piss.

Stuff like your graphic above is only gonna help them. Next thing you know it'll be a two page spread in the middle of the Evening Post, and be the basis of their next "plan".

    "Don't tell 'em Pike"...

Good point, but with them looking at the Fruit Market, that doesn't sit right with me.

Still think that development would be feasible now if they were serious.

I was looking at an aerial shot of both Bristol grounds on Twitter earlier, there is a lot of room behind their main stand (the one that bizarrely doesn’t run the full length of the pitch), plus a fair bit behind their home end.

If they really had the money it would be possible to develop the ground piecemeal like we did, the other two sides are certainly more problematic but could still be made more efficient.

Problem is despite being “one of the richest owners in football” Wael doesn’t actually have the money & Hani, the brother who does, walked away a few years ago now.

I agree, surely it makes sense, given the size of their Memorial Grounds footprint to turn the pitch 90degrees, and they'll then have an existing stand behind a goal with executive boxes (D), terracing (C) running pretty much down the length of the pitch, and then two areas (see A and B) to have room to build two stands.

They could easily do a Gillingham down one side of the pitch and just erect temporary seating, thus allowing them to stay in the stadium, whilst building a decent home end(A) with flats\housing\executive boxes - or whatever they want.

Would be a decent capacity as well.

It's probably wishful thinking on our part that he might stay as he believes it would be best for his development. If a prem team has an offer accepted he will be off.

Can't argue with that either. If City receive a massive offer that's too good to be true, there's always the prospect that we may force his hand to accept.

Think Alex has his head screwed on, he knows what he gets from being here rather than (potentially) being on the bench of a PL side. I think with a pay rise to what one of our top earners will be under our new pay structure and a release clause that remains reasonable then I wouldn't be shocked if he signs it. He knows he's got more developing to do as a player and starting 40+ league games is helping with that. You never know, another championship season adding some more goals and assists to his game may persuade one of the big clubs to activate the clause.

I suppose the other thing that Alex Scott understands, is what it's like to be released from a club, therefore as he's got it good here at the moment, maybe it's too soon for him to be moving to a big PL side and not get the chance to impose himself.

The issue is I can not see SL wanting to sell just the football club. He’s 70, his son seems less interested by the day and we have silence from the club unless you are the manager of the football club or the rugby club who are pushed up in front of the cameras after every crap performance.
The Bears have a get out of jail free card for the Heineken, which is convenient, but Pearson is holding a team together based upon bringing players through from the HPC, not helped by Klose and Martin having hung up their boots prematurely.
The value of the other clubs connected with Bristol sport is unknown, plus there is permission for construction that will need to be funded and the strange looking stand on what is the open end could really do with rebuilding.
The idea that City could be purchased by anyone and then be beholding to other entities is not a serious option. A lot of upside in owning Bristol Sport INCLUDING BCFC and the HPC, but work needs to be done/significant money needs to be spent over and above the purchase price.
My thought is that this may not be (if something exists) a US based interest group.

The line in bold I find interesting. Unfortunately, from a pessimistic point of view, can we realistically see SL running the club for another 10 years - potentially yes, but realistically no - so at some point I'd expect SL to want to offload everything.

If Jon Lansdown isn't interested in taking over the ownership of any of the clubs owned by SL i.e. City, Rugby, Basketball, Motor racing, then what the hell happens when SL passes on? Somebody needs to action that situation, whether it's a pre-emptive lock stock sell by SL, or a reactive sell by JL (if something unfortunately suddenly happened to SL) - we're still left with a situation that all the clubs owned by the Lansdown will need running by someone.
