I'm actually touched - you all appear almost as interested in my own club as your own.

It is very entertaining, and this is in large part because we haven't morphed into a soulless corporate entity, unlike a certain club I could touch with a very short stick.

Yep - very few people call circuses "corporate entities" - perhaps also you should bear in mind which club was piping in crowd noise over the PA before trying to call us soulless?

I am hoping your poxy team of prison dodgers go back to getting rinsed by Acrington, Exeter, Morecambe and Fleetwood soon. I suspect we wont see you on here then.

I watched the last 20 and Charlton were on top, good finish for the winner to be fair.

Alfie May desperately needs a goal. Might have been a red card for one of the sag defenders but it might have been harsh.

A draw would probably have been fair from what I saw but it makes you appreciate the standard in our league. Sinclair missed an absolute sitter n all.

Anyone know what's the story with the Charlton keeper? Looked like he was wearing glasses.

PPE? he did have to spend 45 minutes in front of their supporters!

  3. To also come back on what was said about so few chances/shots created against Millwall last weekend

This is last seasons defensive stats sorted by xGA  (a larger sample size ?) - Millwall were the best non-promoted side defensively last season.

I find it a bit disappointing that whenever anyone on here suggests that we are a bit lightweight up front they get met with such overwhelming criticism (although not really amounting to abuse IMO) . Yes, we do have a number of attacking options, and anyone coming in would have to fit with the way that NP wants the team to play, but I don't see why the recruitment philosophy that we are deploying in other areas of the pitch can't equally apply to the forward line. I don't think it's outrageous to suggest that a young player with pace and more of a physical presence would improve our attacking threat. I admire the academy pathway model, but would also hope that Tins has on his radar a few strikers of this ilk who are a little further along the development path.

It is hard to argue that up front we are lacking physicality in our front line. But in fairness to others posting (/critiquing) on this thread I think it is also hard to read the first post as anything other than a call to spend significant sums of money in that "specialist" role.  - "Mr lansdown it’s time you loosened the purse strings and allowed for a major signing up front,a forward who can hold the ball up and bring players in"

Given our play style up front, spending significantly on such a player (and potentially destroying our hard won lower wage structure in process) seems at best risky and at worst Ashton-esque.

Maybe the club see Seb Palmer Holden as this option in future? - in the meantime they are perhaps ok with what we have options wise?

The rest of the window could be interesting, but I won't be too upset if we arrive on Sep 1st with the same players we now have in the squad. Arguably the money we have could be better spent on rewarding and tying down, Zak, Pring, Bell & Conway for a few more years.

Thing is could be Christmas before Conway back and weimann has been a great servant but hasn’t got the legs anymore

What evidence do you have for this?

I think in the last 7 years ? It’s something like outgoings £125 million and incomings £78 million only going by Google transfer market usings tools available to check so yeh a shift of about + £40 odd million so yes I’d like a bit more player investment of quality

Uhhhhm ..... and what about salaries of the players bought and sold?

That "£40M shift" is not profit BTW. It's been MORE than consumed in salaries in that period, probably a few times over.

You do realise that without sales of Semenyo (and Soctt) we would have quite likely been facing a points deduction and having a transfer embargo about now?

Normally against BOTH teams we'd be reading stuff post match along the lines of - we got bullied,  too physical for us, didn't allow us to play our game.

It's nice to get these 2 fixtures out of the way with 4 points to our name.

Over dinner i was wondering if our record against these two sides is actually as bad as i recall.

Answer: Pretty much yes, though 2 wins against Preston last season make it look a bit better.

Best of luck to him. Such a promising talent.

Roll on the days we can see these players at their peak, rather just catching a glimpse.

If we get to the premier league we will be "fishing in a different pond" to now, BUT because of that we will still not necessarily be seeing players at their peak.

Simply put the kind of players we would be shopping for in the premier league, if we got there, would be either younger and have room to grow, or older and past their peak.  For the younger players if they have a good season they will be off to A top six premier league side or Europe. Brighton are a case in point here, a brilliant season (well beyond the "premier league survival" we would hope for) and they get picked apart by the big clubs.

  9. Stuck in a tent on North Devon coast for this one. Antoni has been battering us since around midnight. Internet service patchy so no stream possible today. I will stick to refreshing this mdt every few minutes, so keep it entertaining!

Team looks strong, including bench. Like others I'd have gone with sykes over cornick. However cornick was very good last weekend at pompey imo

    Newport, IoW please.

As a resident of Southampton living very close to the Ferry terminal I cordially disagree.

Surely the USA has a perfectly servicable Newport? - Shouldnt affect their gates either "watch them from the pavements" and all that!

They would look to either develop the Memorial Ground (probably by turning the pitch 180 degrees, or given the complete nightmare of getting planning permission look to get planning permission for housing (just like Lansdown has done in order to fund the Sports Village), and then use those funds to build a stadium for them that A) They will own themselves and B) Will provide them with an income stream that will make them a viable football club in the future.

That would still require the blue few to actually turn up in the sort of numbers that they have not witnessed for over 70 years!!

Bear in mind, at championship level, our average gates of over 20K are not really "sustainable" without a benefactor. I see no fundamental or structural reason why they would be better off in this regard, even if they were located at the fruit market.

They may claim support equal or better to ours but many years of evidence does not back this up.

    The mind of a Sag

Ok let me rephrase - is there anything with the standard number of fingers and toes that connects the investor with the Sovereign Wealth fund?

If he was important enough to have access to said fund he would not be "anonymous" online.

One of their fans has just pointed out, they haven’t released an away kit/third kit yet and they’re away to Pompey on Saturday so obviously can’t use their home kit….surely not a Mansfield type situation again for the 15ers

It will announced in the next few days by their 3 new signings wearing it sat together in their new stand!!

  14. from https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/efl-regulations/section-5--fixtures/

    Quote

    35.3 Facilities for visiting supporters

35.3.1  Each Club must make provision for at least 2,000 visiting supporters at every home match or such number as represents 10% of the Club’s certified capacity, if less than 2,000. The League may, on the prior written application of a Club, suspend this Regulation or reduce the figure either for a particular League Match or for a period of time. Each Club shall, subject to any dispensations granted by the Board, make provision for at least 200 of the visiting supporters (of which not less than 100 must be seats) to be accommodated under cover. Any Club which fails to meet the requirement of 200 visiting supporters being accommodated under cover and which does not have a dispensation granted by the Board shall have such amounts as the Board shall determine (in its absolute discretion) withheld from that Club’s central distributions from the Pool Account until such time as the Club can meet the requirement.

Note the part that says "The League may, on the prior written application of a Club, suspend this Regulation"  - I wonder if they have done this or were hoping to do it after the first half dozen games.

Yeah I’m still not totally buying shares in Bell. I’d hate to face him in a foot race but I’m not 100% sure he’s a consistent starter at this level at this time (with the caveat that the more experience he gets the better he gets)

Anis as you know I’ve been more cautious of than most. That cross was great but two moments stood out to me that shows his “maturing/integration” - one where Weimann was retrieving a ball and Anis (who’d have chased like a puppy before) held his run back to recieve the back heel. There was also one where about 18 yards out he delayed until TC made a great run (ruled offside though iirc!). Last season he blind alleys that one.

Unless you are a sprinter my guess is the "facing him" part lasts around a second, the rest of the time you will be watching his back ?

The options and combos on the left side look very interesting.

Seeing as it is August next week I would be very surprised if there was any chance at all of it making the first deadline.

They clearly have no idea of the background work involved here or lead in times for things like this.

I would even say September is pushing it unless it gets accelerated internally..

I hope they get this resolved by september....... september 2026 that is!
