Daylight robbery is a quote on the Norwich forum.

Frustrating with mistakes, but we are looking more and more like prime Brazil going forward.

Watching this it reminded me a bit of the away game that finished 2-2 at Brentford a few years back (the one with Reid scoring in the last minute) - Brentford played us off the park that night and we could not get close

It was maybe not quite as dominant, but tonight we played very well. As mostly everyone has said gift wrapping them 2 (arguably 3) soft goals killed us.

If (and it seems to be a big if at the moment) we can tighten up at the back, and do that without hugely sacrificng our forward play we could be in for a great season. The quality of football is sooooo much better than the turgid dross we have been served up for the last 2-3 seasons we might as well be playing a different sport.

    Other positive thoughts:

We are away from home and the board goes up for 6 mins injury time - boo'd by home fans - if they are comfortable in what they are seeing from their team they probably dont care, and dont make any noise.

We will play worse and win this seasoin I am sure of it

  2. Getting 2 points or more across the two games games would I hope be considered progress by most, compared to the last few seasons.

Getting  4 points or more would I feel be quite exciting for our prospects. Granted, it will still be only 10 games by then, and City have shown ample capacity in years gone by to prove the old adage "its the hope that kills" true.

By the end of these 2 games we'd have played a fair proportion of the top half of the table (as it stands now) away from home. Not to say away games against the bottom half sides are easy ofc!

That's almost a #gaslogic full house right there.

This was the vanarama playoff final in 2015 right?

This "figure" is growing over the years as we all suspected it would. At this rate (growing 3K in 7 years) they will have taken more than the actual attendance in 20 years time!

Waaay back in the this thread i looked into this in more detail - My conclusion based on local newspaper reports of ticket sales one week before the final (presumably these figure informed by the clubs) and some investighation into the method of neutral ticket sales made my figure of dribbling lunatics in attendance closer to 32K

That's a lot of box shots. 61 out of 71 to be exact. Yet no penalty appeals to think of. Should we not expect at least one appeal here? At least one clear cut scything down of our most dangerous goal threat? Yet it isn't there (unless someone corrects me). For me that says that honesty and integrity are part of this wicked conspiracy to deny us penalties.

I am sure he has had some claims for handball in those shots? even if he has not been fouled/tackled poorly?

Alright guys, I have calculated the standard deviation as a result of this thread. It turns out to be 8.509172754 standard deviations away from the mean, this equates to a probability greater than 1 in 390,682,215,445 as thats the highest standard deviation to probability combination i could find on the internet (7 standard deviations). Whilst yes, i have used a particular date to set it from, it still shows something that should be almost nearly impossible. If you see that i've gone wrong on any of the maths feel free to correct me.

Thanks pezza - I am not a stats expert but that is a lot

This paper https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1993PhRvE..48.2547M/abstract lists the probability of a coin landing on the edge as being approx 1 in 6000

Therefore the probability of tossing THREE coins simultaneously and having them ALL land on the edge on the same toss is by my reckoning 1 in 216,000,000,000

Assuming normal distrubution and your figures for 7 standard deviations  - The probability of city having to play this long on average to get a penalty is more than1 in 390,682,215,445 so at least 1.8  times less likely!!

Totally agree and to be fair to them and I don't like to be, they took over 400 for a Tuesday night in Barnsley, not too shabby.

I hope that every one of them had a totally miserable night, watching their "heroes" get rinsed by a team, who, were barely good enough to be described as abject in the championship last season.

All this coming a few days after their manager stated that "everything they do is championship standard" - lovely stuff!

Looks like another one of there bus tours. No ****** there

Could of almost been mid-match given the consistently pathetic gates they have had through the decades.

That is now the partnership I want to enjoy every game

The thought of having Conway, Semenyo, Weimann, Scott and Massengo in the team together is in equal measure

    1) scary as it sounds a little bit lightweight

    2) enticing as the pressing would be the kind of thing that would give defences nightmares

  10. Consider the situation (unlikely ofc) that Andorra FC do get promoted...

At the end of next season Barcelona and Real Madrid are vying for the title

It is all level on points going in to the last games and the title will go to Real Madrid if they equal Barcelona's result unless there is a 12 goal swing in GD

Real have Villareal away as their final game

Barcelona are playing FC Andorra in Gerard Piqué's final game as a professional at the Nou Camp.....

  11. How it started:

We’re a lot bigger city to be having no Premier League side and my goal is to put the blue side in the Premier League before the red side,”

"waffle waffle, flap flap, first team on the moon "

" We make every player better. airhead, airhead, dribble dribble"

"we do everything at a ridiculously high level for the level we're playing at. It's Championship and above in every aspect."

    How it is going:

    Barnsley 3 - Bristol Rovers 0

Yes.... the same Barnsley that finished rock bottom of the championship less than three months ago

Yes.., the same Barnsley that didnt manage to average a point per game last season

Yes.. the same Barnsley that had a -40 goal difference

Yes.. the same Barnsley that won 6 games last season, but lost TWENTY EIGHT times

    Championship standard? My arse!

What always struck me was that he literally had gears, he’d suddenly turn the afterburners on

Like @TDarwallsaid , I remember watching him GP for Gillingham and thinking how I’d love to see him in a City shirt, and it actually came to bear

People talk about players getting you off your seat , and he did that so often for us - fantastic player to enjoy

I remember thinking the same - being amazed at his pace when we played Gillingham the season before he arrived. It was very exciting to read in the post he had signed for us,

Loved watching smudger and Mark Gavin. That front four including also Taylor and Turner was almost unbelievable to watch

Come to think of it many years later had the same feeling about Ryan Kent - a player who had torn us to shreds the season before coming to City - very exciting - pity how that one turned out!

Is this the same Joey Barton that a few weeks ago said (to paraphrase things slightly)  "I am not going to make any silly predictions this time around"?

It is very early in the season - they have so far played 2 of the bottom 5 and won six points from them,  and one of those teams played with 10 men for 89 minutes!
Given the early season form in league one they have played just one team around mid table or above, and they lost that game,

However, in Mr. Barton's eyes that seems a cue for some ridiculous tub thumping designed to excite the dribbling masses that frequent the mem. They will just lap it up!

They are nothing like a championship club - in ANY regard, To talk as if they will breeze past us and other established champinship clubs like QPR, Millwall, Birmingham, Stoke, Huddersfield, Cardiff, and Preston and waltz into the premier league is frankly the ramblings of a madman. The majority of clubs that come up from league one actually struggle, and on gates of 7.5K they are going to struggle to pay championship players the money they require and stay within FFP while staying in the divison.

I somehow doubt that the blue 25% of Bristol, because that is what it is, based on this seasons attendances, will ever turn up in sufficient numbers to EVER sustain a top end championship club let alone a premier league club

I can’t recall which match it was last season when, in virtually the last minute, rather than take the ball to the corner flag when he was already in their half, he lost possession and we conceded an equaliser.

I am pretty sure that, almost immediately after the final whistle, NP said in his post-match interview that he was fed up with players who wouldn’t follow instructions

I remember, I was convinced at the time he was referring to Pring.

    Preston away IIRC

  15. I think this is similar heat to the training camp?

I suspect if the coaches felt it was suitable for double training sessions In Austria there wont be an issue, being a pre-season friendly things like water breaks can easily be added in

As we know it’s not just about the football, modern stadiums can be utilised all week every week depending on the facilities and bring in regular cash for the owners. What Bert is saying is not that far fetched and I suspect he knows more than he’s letting on.

Given their low crowds for a club in a City the size of Bristol it’ll be interesting to see what happens after the initial novelty factor wears off and they start losing a few games. 5/6k in a 28k stadium would be an amusing sight.

Good point about utilisation peter. Surely in that circumstance Bristol Rovers would not be the owner (the developer would) so therefore no additional revenue?

5/6K in a 28k stadium sounds a bit like MK dons - maybe a ground share or merger with them is best for all concerned? ???

I'm quite amused by the fact that the Birmingham statement claims the board have "acted swiftly" in making this decision ahead of the upcoming season. Eight weeks doesn't feel that swift to me...

I was a bit perplexed by that also. Swift in relation to what? They do realise last season finished weeks ago, most clubs (like us) have been back in training a few weeks, and done both incoming and outgoing business already.

If pre season is the most important time of the season then the owners would have appeared to have royally f'd things up for them.
