I See the Gas are considering recruiting an Ex of ours......... Jack Hunt? Who i believe has been released by Sheff Wed?   He is one player I would not wish on my worst enemy!   Though when i come to think of it?...............he'd be a perfect fit for them!!

Jack Hunt has been released more time than the hounds on the Simpsons !!

  2. I'm thinking that @Hot Air is one of those Bots rather than an actual human. There is no way (even for a Sag) that so many posts can be so ridiculous. It just isn't possible. Unless of course it is Joey Barton in disguise or the actual drummer out of Bros.

Trying to articulate posts and using points of reference that are just nonsensical. There are a few tolerated Sags that come on here and we all know who they are and for the most part offer some good insight and banter. They must be embarrassed by this pleb. If Hot Air is actually real.

The wife has just gone to my favourite supermarket which is Sainsbury (cue further Hot Air nonsense) for more supplies of popcorn.

I can't be right on everything. I wasn't referring to averages, and accidentally referred to the 2021-22 figures, not those from last season.

Last season is actually a very bad guide, because they underachieved massively.

Note that I was also referring to individual games, not the average.

See here: Charlton Athletic | Home Attendances | 2021-2022 | Football Web Pages

Two attendances in excess of 26,000.

You Sir/ Madam are a complete c@nt of the highest order.

Agree with most of that. I was also lucky enough to watch City play in the old 1st Division as a young lad. Many on here will most probably never experience it as Champ level is probably about right for the club as it currently stands. Which is fair enough. Just feels a bit same old to me though, but we were lucky I suppose.

I still meet people now that aren't City supporters that used to go and watch City in the old First Division. I live in Devon, so all the Man U, Liverpool, Forest 'fans' used to travel up to watch top flight footy at AG.

They were heady days indeed. Little did I know how precious those days were and that decades later we have still never been back. Still no sign of it happening any time soon, if ever.

I think he did take the risk. He backed his boy LJ and Ashton with gob loads of money and they flushed it down the shitter. SL carry’s the can for that debacle.

So now he has really turned his mind to finding a team through the academy. An option that has less effect on FFP and has wider benefits for the community.

Pearson was constrained by spending but is building a team and allowing our kids to come through. We played a 17 year old last night just another off a production line of talent.

I am optimistic We are going to be competitive in the top 10 this season !

I agree with the first line. I was really pointing out the position we are in now rather than past failures.

I agree with the second line. Finding a team, definitely. FFP, Absolutely.

However, continually nurturing players via the academy to then sell them off once they are ready maybe very satisfying and commendable but where does it leave Bristol City FC as any thing other than also rans in the Championship?

As I pointed out in previous posts, I think the Board see the goal and or objective of us being a sustainable club rather than anything else. I think the Board see us holding our own in and around 10th as their version of success. As a City fan of many a decade, I'm resigned or maybe a better word is at peace with this now. Just to be clear, I'd love for us to be regularly challenging for promotion in the Championship but it just isn't going to happen any time soon. Just my opinion.

Top 10 this season, would be a brilliant outcome and I really hope your optimistic prediction happens!!

If you don’t have a goal how do you know when you’ve achieved it?
Our goal must be to advance the club and that means promotion to the Prem. SL wants this but not at the risk of seeing the club go bust or to go backwards like a Portsmouth, Swindon etc. We all remember the Ashton Gate 8.  I am not sure that his ‘ safety first’ tactics are enough to rise above all the hard nosed crooks who flout the rules but there are worse things than being a mid table established Championship club who occasionally flirts with the play offs or enjoys a cup run.

I guess your reply to my post sums up what I'm talking about.

I said that we need to forget about the 'promised land' idea. The reason being because SL may want it, but he can't have it because of the financial restraints of one thing and another. He won't take the risk and I don't blame him for that.

The goal maybe to get promoted to the Prem but its unlikely to be achieved. We may get a bit lucky where everything goes right for a season i.e. Luton. The chances though are at best slim.

We are where we are. To me that looks like what you said in your last sentence. As for me, I'm resigned to that outcome and will just make the best of it.

As the direct opposite to the dysfunctional commercial side, the ‘players out’ model we operate is run like a well-oiled machine.

Alex, has incredible talent, and I’m pretty confident he will go on and have a great career in the Prem. He has been in the shop window for the past 6 months and everyone at the Club has been ensuring he’s a visible ‘for sale’, but only at a decent fee. The classic was Nige’s recent interview, with the reference to the ‘Alex Scott mug.  Smart, and not the first time we’ve promoted players in order to avoid being fleeced.

Key to the success of our model and promotion to the Prem, is the ‘players in’ side of the equation. I get The Academy is now delivering but imo that, alone, won’t get us into the Prem. Feel more confident with Nige and Tins at the helm of player recruitment… but still worry about the lack of a network of experienced, proven talent scouts. Hopefully, will be proved wrong and our new ‘batch’ of incomers will push us on to the long-promised land.

I think we just need to forget about this 'promised land' idea.

We are what we are. That is a club looking to be sustainable rather than successful.

The City Board version of successful is basically being sustainable. The majority of the fans' vision of success is something different.

  8. As much as it grinds my gears, the transfer was always going to happen. However, in a scenario like this i.e. a prized clubs asset is sold to a club higher up the food chain. Then usually, the fee, at least a significant part of that fee, is then spent to further strengthen the team. In this instance, as things look and sound. That isn't happening!

This is the part that I'm really the most disappointed and flat about. I'm a bloke in my 50's so I've seen plenty of punches to the gut when it comes to decisions made at Board level. I'm definitely no happy clapper but the job NP and Tins have done to undo the terrible reigns of Mark Ashton and LJ has been admirable. How must NP in particular be feeling this morning? My guess is, angry and let down and what f@ck is the point? Hopefully, he doesn't get too despondent because if he did decide that he's had enough then we really could be heading back to square one. Again!

Just think how it could have been handled. Consult with the locals 1st, find out how they could sweeten the build by including facilities that could be used by the community on non match days, all sorts of potential there. Society is crying out for childcare or elderly social facilities that could be part of a new build. Have a plan, perfect it, submit to the council in good time.

They are falling between 2 ideas, the fruityhad dream and short term crowd increase at the Mem. This means they could fail at both and in the meantime additionally get all the bad publicity of the postponed build, disabled access and smaller crowds.

Which is exactly why I'm happy with the approach they have taken. For the sake of any doubt. Yes. I despise the G@sh.

  11. I rarely go on to their 'Forum' but now and again I do when I'm having a particularly sh!te day. Today is one of those days so I had a quick look to cheer myself up.

They start by saying, 'I don't know how the planning process works but .........'

    'fast track route' ?
'surely we don't have to wait in a Queue' ?

The best bit though: 'affects something of cultural importance to the city' ??

Thank you S@gchat for cheering me up!!

I don't know how the planning process works but surely there is a fast track route if the planning permission affects something of cultural importance to the city. Surely we don't have to wait in a queue behind Mr Wilsons proposal to build a porch on the front of his 3 bed semi?

Had to go to Horfield for work today. I noticed a few hundred yards from filton Ave on muller rd , someone has depicted a wildlife scene on a long garden wall . It’s a very nice piece of art to be fair . I don’t think it will last though as part of the way through it is a very large robin . How long before that gets defaced.

I can hear them now as they pass the wildlife scene.

'I bet that was painted by some Gurt Ted coz they know we's cumin for em'.

  13. Firstly, I need be clear on one thing. I really don't like Luton. I don't like the Town, I don't like the football club and I don't like Luton fans (and probably in that order).

All the fairy tale stuff spouted about Luton really boiled my p!ss last season.

However, I feel our squad and general feel around the place is as good as it's been for some time. Is our squad and management  /coaching team for this season inferior to Luton Town FC of last season?

I'm not proclaiming that we are going to finish top 6 and or then get promoted but I do think we could surprise a lot of people this season, even some of our own supporters.

Praying that what is happening now is the beginning of something special and not another false dawn. I know, it's the hope that kills you.

Don't they have to provide a minimum amount something to do with their capacity or is that just the fa cup,

Ether way I would of though it's 900 at least, and they have to be housed somewhere which in turn restricts some of their remaining 8 stands

I like the subtle 'remaining 8 stands' ?
