  1. I don't think it will happen, but the main thing this season was to avoid the drop and in 2 or 3 weeks time hopefully we'll be able to breathe easily knowing that we mathematically cannot be drawn into a relegation battle.

Lots of positives to build on for next season.

You can certainly feel that the mood has changed for the better. It's nice to look like we're enjoying the end of a season ride for a change.

Agreed, we never really call them that any more. Take your pick from the following:-

Gastards, Gassholes, Laughable Gash, Sags, Slags,  C***s, Scum, 15ers, Blue Few, Scum, Overdrawn and Quartered, Rent Boys, Mouldy Battenberg Shite, Tote Scrotes, BeastVile Wanderers, Skeletor’s Chicken Hutch XI, Gappers, Whorefield nonleaguers, Cureton’s Babes, FA Trophy First Round Runners Up, Pisspoorial Mounders, ScumBarton’s Skoal Ar*e Bandits, BarrowHitchenCheshamBorehamWoodBraintreeAltrinchamBathBarnetMyF**kingSides, Oh, did I mention C***s?

    Sorry, feeling devoid of inspiration.

You missed the most important one of all.....

    TINPOT!

  3. I've always felt that a manager needs to show that they are a leader and to psychologically get the players to buy-in, believe and be prepared to run through brick walls for their leader.

I think that it is evident on the pitch now that the players are working tirelessly for each other and believe that they can compete and take this club in the right direction.

I remember Clive Whitehead mentioning that Alan Dicks was a sort of father figure to the squad that got us promotion back in 1976 and I see the same thing in NP. He doesn't hide in his pre and post match interviews and he doesn't try to baffle anyone with 'football science speak' like previous managers have tried to do. He is firm, but fair and knows what he wants to achieve. I've tried to look at the bigger picture and have stated before how broken the club was when he stepped into the job.

I was over the moon with his appointment and amazed that we managed to get such a well known name into the club, especially considering that the job that he was coming into was an almost impossible task!

Let's not forget that the Leicester side that won the premier league was effectively assembled by him, and look at the season before he left when he created the 'great escape' for them. Ranieri had an easier job because NP had done all of the groundwork. He has the ability to instill belief and a feeling of togetherness in his squad. I think that we are starting to see the same thing happening here and I'm so pleased that we have remained patient.

It's great to have an air of positivity around the club again, because it's been stale for far too long.

  6. After years of providing endless gifts for us laugh our bollocks off at and being totally Tinpot in everything they do would it not be pertinent to rename this thread "Tinpot Bristol Rovers"?

One thing I have learned from Gasheads that I know is that they absolutely seethe whenever they are referred to as "Tinpot".

1982 has zero effect on us, but "Tinpot" definitely hits the spot with Saggies.

Being Tinpot IS 'what they do'.

I made a handy chart previously to cover this.

Two rows for us - One all time and the other post 1982
Either way we have a much less empty trophy cabinet

  8. I’ve got a lot of respect for PaulPowersLeftFoot who dealt the best ever crushing blow to a Gashead’s fragile mental state the last time we drew Man City in a cup competition…..

Loanees usually have a large chunk of their wages paid for by the parent club.  As I said, I would prefer developing youth players, however, the majority of League One and Two clubs do rely on having half a dozen players from the loan market - that's the way the finances are managed these days.

Gold star for the club South of the river, who's enormous losses are bankrolled by their billionaire owner - you are not comparing like for like.

I thought your mob was the '6th Richest Club in the country'?

I do like the fact they werent even called Bristol Rovers back in 1883, and  were renamed Rovers AFTER we were called Bristol City- they hate to be reminded of that.

No, they were called the ultimate non-PC name of 'Black Arabs'. Good to see that in 2023 their code of ethics is still totally shot to pieces!

... and the first time was 1920 by which point we had won the second division title, finished runners up in the top division and been in an FA Cup final

.....ah, sorry to correct you, but according to 'Gaslogic' that club died in 1982 and all prior records were expunged and don't count for diddly squat.

I dunno. There’s only 2 remaining players (academy aside) left in the squad from the LJ/Ashton period, and both will be gone in 18 games time (Kalas, Dasilva).

Those 2 aside, plus Williams (signed by Holden), this is Pearson’s squad now.

What pleases me Har is the shift in mentality. Pearson has been firm (to some fans displeasure) but fair and you can see the team performing now as more of a solid unit. The West Brom game should have given the players the belief that they can more than just compete at this level when they do what they need to do.

I'm happy with the window signings because we're now attacking at pace, beating people and getting balls into the box with defenders facing the wrong way. It's old fashioned but still bloody effective.

For years I have been pulling my hair out watching slow build up possession play, allowing the opposition to get as many men behind the ball as possible and watching us pass it backwards and forwards across the 18 yard box, failing to find a slight gap and then retreating to the half way line.

Much better football now. Pearson has had to have teflon shoulders and fair play to him. I'm more than happy that he's in charge, but would love to see him have the level playing field that his predecessors had when it comes to being able to spend to get exactly who you want.....with at least 3 transfer windows of it!

shame for that heavy touch, when striding through.

On an aside Naismith has been very good.

    Great diving header from Vyner.

Sykes very efficient, and Wells has done all you could ask for the central forward to do.

Solid performance all round. Just got to keep it simple and wait for the gaps to open up. We’re so quick on the break. So much better than trying to probe. Get at them and get round the back!

  12. Some fans expect to win every game or sack everyone. Meltdowns can be seen every weekend up and down the country.

At our club alone we should have been on our 15th manager already this season, challenging for promotion to the Premier League and spending millions we don't have on players we can't afford.

What a great memory…..when they were celebrating at Wycombe avoiding relegation to the Conference.
Only to get relegated to the conference in their next game at home by a team wearing their away kit.

Looking back at the Bristol City bible memories have come flooding back of the home matches at Ashton Gate in the late 70s against the blues. I remember attending at all these matches from what was called the Enclosure just in front of the then Grand Stand as we now know is the great Lansdown stand.

Season 76/77 and the exact same results for 77/78 the blues had the doble over us. At home we went down 1-0 nil at home and even worse away of which was 3-0.

Season 78/79 we drew 1-1 at home with a goal from Kevin Mabbutt and away we won 2-1 with Chris Garland scoring one of them with Meijer scoring one of the only two goals he ever scored with us during the short time he was with us.

Interesting the attendances at St Andrews and at Ashton Gate in these 1st division days were quite low and they averaged out at 22K respectively which will be similar too today.

I know this might be some boring info to some but I still look back to those 1st division days and I will never forget them. Some of you on this forum will also remember these great years of 1st division football at the gate but most will also be able to recall many others over the past seasons.

With the blues slipping of late we now have the opportunity of moving ahead of our 17th placed opponents.

COYRedsssssssssss today and a home win for us 2-1 is my prediction.

    I remember it well.

The other coming in the 5 goal demolition of Coventry.
