I remember when Nigel Pearson finally unburdened us from David Bentley there was a lot of doubt over this lad’s capabilities, I think over the season it would be fair to say Goalkeeper is the last position we need to be looking at when it comes to transfer priorities! Another great performance

But it is good to have a good reserve to keep Max on his toes ( or cover any injury)

It depends a little on how you define "one of the best". For me I'd say it means he's in the top 6 in enough stats/areas to be in that conversation. I'd say as well that I say he looks like one of the best, because the defence in front of him improves him. I don't necessarily mean that he is, objectively, one of the top keepers in this division.

    Anyway, Max is:

    3rd best save% this season.

4th for overall number of saves.

    6th best for goals conceded.

    7th best for stopping crosses.

Top 10 for most stats relevant to being a sweeper. Top 6 for one or two.

He's not up there for every stat, and not all stats indicate whether a goalkeeper in isolation is good/bad, but yeh he's putting in top 6/top 10 numbers in multiple categories.

Think he's one (although he's not perfect) that has improved under Liam Manning (and of course Pat Mountain)

  3. For the away shirt I'd like purple with lime trim similar to Norwich away kit or Fiorentinas  and for home kit something similar to Ajax kit. But most importantly it must feature a recognisable robin in all its red breasted glory.

Not sure that was the complaint. He always looked like he added something to the squad, but in his first full games for us he struggled to score and seemed lacking in confidence Sammy Szomidics anyoneto shoot.

Some thought he might make a midfielder but not a striker, others that it was a confidence thing and he'd come good. Which proved correct.

Oh what we'd give for a robust frontman able to hold off defenders, now.

Sammy Szmodics anyone? Could certainly do with his goals

This isn't the Plymouth or Leicester forum. It was meaningless for us.

You're trying to frame this as Leicester and Plymouth are battling to win every single point and giving their all so that makes them impressive victories but the reality is both are/were in poor form and Leicester have huge off the field issues.

Plymouth were in far better form when they came to Ashton Gate and if I remember rightly they had quite a few good chances.

No game is meaningless. We need to build momentum and get some of the confidence back in the team .

You can never fully know what player you are going to get, only have to look at two of our high profile loanees turned perms in to know that even when theres try before we buy it doesn’t always work.

said before that with twine and mebude there’s a case of thinking what type of player you might want, getting them in and seeing how it works, hence the loan. If it is that player great, sign him up or if not available someone similar. Mebude is currently an enigma. Must be a player in there but wrong time of the season to find him - but of course could have gone another way.. potentially undervalued needs the right coach and right situation etc

I wonder what work they do with him on the training ground? He's probably one that merits some individual attention.

Gave a great account of themselves. Werd always going to run out of steam at the end given the gulf in intensity both will be used to. Really hope to see some of them given a shot soon, though Yeboah was excellent again.

A certain level of irony in 3 muscle injuries hugely damaging our chances….!

Also the sub before half time reduced our chances. Not sure what the thinking was but having fresh legs for 2nd half as Man City did would have helped. Nevertheless a good effort against the Cat1 academy favourites.

    Bizarre that we didn't.

    Very strange decision.

If we get another injury then we'll have to play the remainder of that half with 10 so should have just took the hit in thr 1st half.

I'm really surprised. Its almost as though they've momentarily forgotton the substitution rule. With the injurys we've had in the first half the odds aren't in our favour to get through the next 45. I'd rather have played stoppage time with 10 than possibly 10 for a lot longer. Hopefully they won't regret the decision.

Differing views from the Green Army ahead of this game; https://pasoti.co.uk/threads/argyle-v-bristol-city-the-build-up.127606/

Liam Manning & Scott Twine fill me with dread. Their last visit to the Theatre of Greens was a day to forget for our beloved club. Be interesting to see who will be given the task of stopping Twine & quick feet Mehmeti.

    They Played For Both
Kieran Agard, Paul Anderson, Ian Baird, Tyreeq Bakinson, Andre Blackman, Yannick Bolasie, Joe Bryan, Richard Davis, Keith Fear, Arnold Garita, Rene Gilmartin, Trevor Jacobs, Joe Lennox, Guy Madjo, Sean McCarthy, Alan Miller, Kevin Nugent, Karleigh Osborne, Scott Partridge, Forbes Phillipson-Masters, Bobby Reid, Gary Sawyer, Steven Sessegnon, Enoch Showunmi, Phil Starbuck, Ryan Taylor, Robbie Turner, Zak Vyner. Any more? Dave Smith Dave Burnside?

I didn't realise Trevor Jacobs & Keith Fear had played for both. Correct if wrong but I believe Dave Burnside was a Bristolian, but never played for either Bristol club.

Didn't see Joe Edwards on your list. He's in the current team and played for us back in 2010-13 with 4 appearances

What was up with him yesterday? I was urging LM to bring TC off as he looked knackered but Wells looked like he'd been on the p*ss! So lethargic and disinterested. I couldn't have blamed LM if he had subbed him & much as it pains me, HC's energy would've been more effective at that late stage.

TC looks knackered because he is playing as a lone striker, if TC and Wells were on the pitch together at the same time (instead of being subbed for the other)  like they were last season then that would relieve the load on TC

Maybe it’s me but would’ve liked to see a picture of the people too so i could put a face to the name

I did spot one nice moment in the south stand of a family who were recording for when it was their loved one’s turn and then they all embraced which was quite touching

I thought the reason why no pictures was because last time someone thought it was amusing to send in a photograph of someone who was still alive.

Absolutely. Putting all the Manning debate aside surely we can all agree James is just outstanding and key to our midfield. He was superb again today. I’d be really disappointed to see him move on in the summer.

Thinks he commands the midfield, seems to calm it down

I want change, but can never agree with this mindset. I'm a Bristol city fan first and foremost, I want us to win every game

So do I, but a decent performance would be a good start. Players don't turn into bad players overnight, they're just demoralised. Manning needs to go back to basics and play players such as Sykes in their correct position. He's tried too hard too quickly to impose his way of playing. Lets hope the break has made him realise that, and we see a decent performance today (although I hope it's not JUST  because we are on TV)
