They desperately need a good season, they were well on the way to having one at the start of last season, but in amongst the good results there seemed to be a lot of negativity about the quality of football they were watching.

If this Garner fella can get his methods and ideas across and the players buy in, they might well do okay, although based on 'named clubs' League One looks like it will be ultra competitive next season.

I’m not sure being a ‘named club’ in League 1 does you any favours. Look at Sunderland. Expectations can be unwanted baggage

Can't believe they think anything will change, compeition wise.

They may get a basic training ground, and even less likely may get a basic 'stadium'.

Both would be League One standard, at the very best. Brand 'new' facilities, and they're not even as good as half the teams in your division.

There won't be a single player that improves due to it, or a single fan that will pick them over us.

Nothing will change, other than them having more expenses and a bigger hole in their pockets.

I may be in the minority but I think despite their lack of facilities etc they could do quite well on the football front next season. They appear to be building a decent team, with on field leaders such as Max Ehmer(Ex Gills captain)

If the restrictions are lifted enough to allow socially distancing within AG I guess SC holders Would get first priority.

I wouldn’t mind simply having two empty seats either side. The row above maybe three rows further up and the row below three rows apart.

It could certainly be done with the right planning in place.

Many season ticket holders are in a ‘bubble’ ie live in the same house so the club should be able to account for that in any social distancing as you could have groups of 6 sitting together before there needs to be a spare seats

Just seen that LJ is possible candidate for a move to the Prem!

if no others volunteer I’ll take him! He will have to go in the boot though - I’m shielding

We could do a straight swap,. After all Sean Dyche has already achieved promotion with us?

  5. Listening to Ben Garner on BBC Radio Bristol today, he did make one interesting comment. This was that he thought League 1 & 2 should start next season one or two weeks before the Premier League and Championship. I would agree, their seasons other than playoffs are over.  It could certainly be financially beneficial TV etc and might help some of the lower league clubs that would otherwise struggle , to survive.

Still to be decided but I'd better the outcome would have been different if someone else was bottom.

They will magically find a way to get Villa women promoted too I expect

Seems to be the thinking.  Will have 13 clubs not 12 next season..

Somebody in my office had what was in retrospect classic CV19 with loss of sesne of taste and smell; this was January I think.

She was in all through the three weeks that she would have had it so that would mean everyone in that office got it and then passed it on at home, at football games and then onto schools.

I genuinely expect that the majority of people of working age and below have had it because it was widely circulating well before lockdown.  Maybe 70 - 80%; and the majority of those without feeling particularly unwell.

The people who didn't get it would have been those who weren't having this close daily contact with other people - primarily the elderly and infirm.

Whilst this is in the category of "I reckon" a random US sampling of 100 people found that a third had hit.  That's not enough to be statistically significant but I await wider testing with interest as I would say that the much vaunted "herd immunity" was achieved in January - March for the working age population but that there was a second wave amongst a more isolated subsection of the population, the elderly, that took much longer to take off and in that subsection became big news because it was a much more serious infection for them.

Like many I expect several of us have already had it. A colleague of mine back in February said she had never had ‘Flu’ like it and was prescribed antibiotics for a chest infection. We won’t really know until there is an antibody test, rather than a test for whether or not we have it now.

It is indeed a shambles and a travesty - if The Jags had won their game in hand they’d have potentially been out of the relegation zone with 8 games to go, this ain’t over ...

As I understand it although their legal counsel say they have grounds to take it to the courts  , Partick Thistle are not going to appeal the decision. I suspect Partick  are hoping that there may yet be a restructuring with no relegation this season

Good on him if he does a lot for charity, and I genuinely mean that.

However, him donating a picture that he painted whilst tax payers were paying 80% of his wages is not really doing it for me.

it would be interesting to know how long it took to paint his picture, and how much it therefore cost the tax payer for him to paint it. We could then compare it to how much he raised for the NHS to find out who the real winner is.

But we are not paying 80% of his wages. We are only paying a maximum of £2500 per month which is taxable in the normal way. Whilst I know that many people myself included earn less than £2500 , it is not correct to say we are paying 80% of his wages, as I suspect he earns somewhat more than £2500 a month.

Maybe the painting won’t raise a huge amount of funds but  I admire the gesture like any other fund raising activity.

I’ve just read the latest column from Hollowhead.

This is usually good for a laugh, but has left me sick in the stomach this time.

    https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ian-holloway-bristol-rovers-debt-4035810

He starts by talking about how clubs are reacting to Coronavirus and says “Greed is evident everywhere and we need to get back to a mentality of looking out for one another, rather than grasping for everything we can get. Nowhere is the need for change more obvious than in professional football where the rich continue to get richer at the expense of the poor.“

He goes on to criticise Liverpool FC’s decision to furlough staff, albeit this what now been reversed. “The pots of money being made available to help them would be better invested in paying higher wages to the incredible NHS staff, who are working so hard to protect all of us at this dreadful time.”.

    All very laudable stuff.

He then mentions that “Clubs the size of Grimsby Town, where I am manager, have no choice but to take advantage of government help. All players and staff, including myself, were placed on furlough last week“. However, the club don’t appear to be that strapped as the club are making up the difference in wages to ensure no staff member loses a penny.

it makes me sick to think that my tax payer’s money is going to the likes of Hollowhead, when in his words, money would be better spent on the NHS.

i can only hope that he is donating this extra income, and that from writing his article to the NHS.

I would just like to say in defence of  ‘Hollowhead’ he does a lot of charity work  particularly those associated with the Deaf , hearing dogs etc but also other areas and ...

These touches are nice but seen an interesting article on the subject too. Not specifically about us but in general- think we get a brief mention though, albeit not by club.

    https://www.football365.com/news/football-charity-coronavirus-opinion

Vague similarity between the two. Not specifically about us of course, more about the industry and citing examples.

So it's good, no doubt- but anything to get too excited about?

Wonder what clubs do with food that will expire with no matchday? Dunno where you'd sell it. :dunno:

A lot of clubs have donated the food to food banks, and the homeless

Should hope its on catchup but im never too sure!

Really like listening to Simon Jordan, but haven't listened to him since this began, will endeavour to as have plenty of time.

But Warburton came across so, so well to my ears. I'd be comfortable with someone like that in a more influential position than QPR manager.

Not always a fan of Simon Jordon, but have listened to him since this begun (and he has been on TALKSPORT a lot lately) well thought out opinion and rationale .

Yep, national effort (apparently)- all got to do our bit.

    https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2020/march/stadium-joins-national-effort-to-support-those-impacted-by-covid-19/

Mind you a Tweet by Mark Kelly suggested we've done something similar but again, comms- nothing out there.

Sorry I missed his tweet. I know we don’t want a big fuss made, but a simple statement by the club along the lines of some of the Premier League clubs would have at least shown that an offer was there if needed. Just saw on Points West that there is a possibility that UWE may be used in some backup capacity.

A 21 year old with no underlying health concerns has died after contracting the virus

Unfortunately viruses don’t tend to discriminate between age, yes older people may be more likely to get it but it certainly and unfortunately doesn’t mean the young aren’t  vulnerable. Maybe this, and the death of the 37 year old British diplomat in Budapest,  will be the wake up call for some of the under 40s who think they are invincible.
