  1. I'm not overly happy about this switch as I've now missed the chance to get Friday off work, I've missed enough games through work commitments this season as it is, however, people saying the Notts County fans have been screwed over and why haven't they had an apology? ask Notts County Football Club who agreed to the change of date.I can understand City fans wanting answers from the City board for themselves but Notts County FC are just as guilty.

On reflection you are right.  I hope NCFC are apologising to their fans, who will be more impacted by this.  My main point stands though.  Why ever was this game scheduled for the Saturday?  This will explain everything that is happening now.

Tbh I couldn't care less if the queen announced it. 8 days before the match is just unacceptable.

Wouldn't it be great though. Although, knowing City, it would probably be in next year's Christmas broadcast...

Peoples reactions on here are now starting to get a little bi hysterical and losing credability.

The timing of this decision is wrong, now question about it, but suggesting that the club should compensate a group of holiday makers from sweeden it crazy. They still have their holiday and even Mondays fixture. The club will refund match tickets, end of.

The club have fcuked up here, but are not liable for peoples travel, hotels etc.

A gesture of a free ticket to another game for anyone getting a refund would make for some kind of appology, but that is about as far as it should go imo.

They definitely need to learn and never make this total balls up again though!

I suspect from your alias that you walk to the game!  Your lack of empathy for people who have planned, and paid out for, a great weekend away in Bristol perhaps reflects a naivety.  I expect the Sweden "holiday makers" can afford to miss the game.  But that's not the point.  The service from City to those fans is abysmal and unacceptable.

  2. I think there are 2 questions that need to be answered.  The responses may be very illuminating.

Firstly, why was this game ever on the Saturday? I suggest that one or other of the teams asked for it to be on Saturday.  What has happened since?

It's possible that the police asked for the game to be on Saturday originally.  City (and/or NCFC) asked subsequently for it to be put back to Friday.  As part of the deal, the police then said "You can have it back to Friday if you don't mention our involvement at all".  Would explain why the club has provided no explanation around this.

Secondly, why hasn't the club apologised to NCFC fans who are travelling and, more importantly, City fans who are put out by this?

Why hasn't the Club's Liaison (not during match days) Officer offered any sort of explanation?

  3. Not sure what you mean Chivs.

Some people were rightly questioning Baldock in early January after he'd fluffed numerous gilt-edged chances.  Those criticisms, lets not forget, also came from his Manager and from himself.

Someone dragging up a thread from 8 weeks ago, to prove themselves right and vilify other people's valid opinions, is just egotistical, self-indulgent bull.

I enjoy reading this site for it's frank and open views and it's the first place I come to for general BCFC news.  However, the multitude of "See, I'm right, you're an idiot" posts is becoming incredibly tedious.  Why can't people get back to having a proper debate without resorting to vilifying anyone who doesn't agree with you.

Would that be like the person who obsessively lists all Baldock's misses (from 8 weeks ago) whilst overlooking the fact he is one of the top scorers in League 1?  I think I could accuse that person of self-indulgent bull.  Agree?

Some people had valid opinions in January and weren't questioning (rightly) the League 1 top scorer's ability.

Humble pie is a big mouthful.

  4. Only negative in the table now is, a number of teams have games in hands over us.

I believe some of them, are fellow relegation struggler's up against one another.

It's not a negative.  Crawley are on exactly the same points as us with the same goal difference.  I assume they are below us alphabetically (or is it then goals scored??).

Anyway, after they lose their 6 (yes six!!) games in hand their goal difference will be awful and we continue up the table.

  5.

now 5 shots, but only 1 on target...

I'm looking at the BBC website after 83mins of our game.

It genuinely says that we've had 1 (I repeat one) shot on target.

I suggest any football manager that plays any formation that results in that stat should be sacked on the spot.

I really don't see how hard it is to attack so that we get, ohhh, 3 shots on target?

  6.

#BristolCity v PNE: Parish; Moloney, Flint, Osborne, Williams, Cunningham; Wagstaff, Gillett, Pack; Emmanuel-Thomas, Baldock.

#BristolCity subs: Fielding, Bryan, Shorey, Elliott, McLaughlin, Taylor, Harewood.

John Pemberton opts for an unchanged line-up.

I'm hoping that at least one of our managers this season will see that Burns is a better option than Harewood.

Having said that, I'd hope they'd see me as a better option than Harewood.  Has he hit the target this season?

  7. As I said in my earlier post - opinions are subjective. More often than not we only see what we want to see and not what we should see.

Prior to him signing for City, if you would have asked City fans for their opinion of Norman Hunter, the majority would have said he was nothing but a dirty clogger. Most people's preconceptions would have initially clouded their judgement. However, in reality, and as City fans came to recognise, he was anything but just a dirty player. He was very skilful and had a sweet left foot.

Perhaps the Mirror reporter, as a a neutral, approached the match with an open mind about the players on both sides. Perhaps, like you, he saw LJ give the ball away a few times but perhaps he also saw him do more positive things than you have given him credit for because he never had any pre-conceived ideas or was not looking to pounce on the slightest error.

I'm in the LJ appreciation club. He didn't play badly (no-one did) but he did give the ball away, in bad positions, on a number of occasions.

I know it's all about opinions but how anyone watching the game didn't give the MOM to Fontaine is beyond me. He was immense.

  8. Just looking at the mouth watering new signings at the Valley compared to The Gate and it illustrates the huge gulf between top of the Championship [expected] and somewhere below half way [? educated guess on these differences]

    In

    Svetoslav Todorov Portsmouth

    Nicky Weaver Manchester City

    Jose Vitor Semedo Sporting Lisbon

    Yassin Moutaouakil Chateauroux

    Patrick McCarthy Leicester City

    Chris Iwelumo Colchester United

    Luke Varney Crewe Alexandra

For sure we cannot expect to compete with such a list BUT...should even the likes of me, ever Mr. Patient, be starting to worry just a little that we may only, at best, actually need to be satisfied with simply 'making up the numbers' ??

To all intense and purposes we will be playing a Premiership team when the Charlton fixtures come around so I suspect, as of today's date, we really do now need to keep our expectations firmly on the ground.. comments welcome. :mafia::violin:

An ex-premiership team with ex-premiership players. I haven't even heard of some of those players. Having a long fancy foreign name doesn't make you good at football. We played Crewe last year though I can't remember if Varney played. Which rather sums him up.

I think there's a lot of confusion between good players and a good team. Johnson has a knack of getting a good team spirit going which can make up for a lack of top-notch players.

Bring them on, is what I say. :farmer:

  9. Personally invading the pitch no longer appeals to me like it once did. Maybe thats to do with maturity. I didn't need to be on the pitch to enjoy the celebrations.

I see you've got a few bites on this one already. Well done!

Funny thing is, I'm not getting any younger and, for the first time ever, I decided to go on the pitch on Saturday. Must be immaturity setting in.

To be honest nothing will ever beat the feelings of reaching the old First Division on that night in 1976. That memory wil stay with me for ever.

I'm really sorry for you that your greatest life moment has already passed away over 30 years ago. It must be a bleak outlook for you.

I'm sure nothing will beat the feelings of us reaching the Premiership whenever that may be. I guess my glass is half full.

  10. Without a shadow of a doubt, it has to be...................well,.............................me, really.

    I can see it now.

I'd bring Don Howe in as my defensive coach.

I'd pep up discipline somewhat. For example, the last player in from the cross country run, would be shot.

May sound harsh, I know, but basic speed would improve on average, even if only on the basis that we'd eradicate all the slow players.

All players would be signed on a pay when play basis and strikers on pay when you score.

That would slash Lee Millers wages by 92% at a stroke :dunno:

Injured players would be shot along with the aforementioned slow players, thus eradicating any long term injury problems.

Can't think why nobody's come up with it before.

    I'm off for a lie down :Sleep12:

Well Bristol Boy, while you are lieing down I wish to commend myself to you as your deputy. We clearly are in tune with respect to player's discipline. However, I think the PFA my be concerned with your "shotgun" disciplinary processes. I suggest something more cunning. "The club regret to announce that our centre half has had his contract terminated with immediate effect after an unfortunate accident involving the Clifton Suspension Bridge". That should put us beyond suspicion.

I'm also not keen on the pay as you play scheme. Afterall, for at least 60 minutes of most games, Aaron Brown wasn't playing while he was playing. I'd prefer a pay as you run scheme whereby the player's distance covered is measured and he is paid appropriately. Obviously, any player running up and down the touchline in a pay improvement attempt will be marched straight to Clifton. Phillips will just have to take a massive pay cut.
