Indeed, I'm hoping that the fine margins and bad luck (Paterson striking the post) that prevented us a win at the death on Saturday along with Tomlin's penalty tonight will galvanise the squad against a Derby side who are clearly not firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Gutted tonight but nothing that should destroy our confidence for upcoming matches.

Watch the highlights on Sky and you can see that Derby clearly are firing on all cylinders.  They absolutely murdered Ipswich.  61% possession, 23 shots to 5, 4 corners to none.  And Ipswich won with a bad mistake by the Derby keeper with 1 of their 2 shots on target.

Derby will be a really tough game on Saturday.

Hmmm, I might be a little miffed if I was a Burton fan.  Abraham certainly seemed to be using a lot of physical pressure on their defender for the winner.

It's the sort of tackle that you feel a big team always gets the decision and the minnow (usually us) gets done over.

We need Matthews back and fit.  All of Burton's attacks came down their left.  Probably deliberately.

I hope fans are also realistic...regardless of our Stadium, dreams, hopes, future plans, new manager, new scouts, new recruitment people etc, etc...however good they are...however much we plan to be better...we are still little ol' Bristol City...Un proven in this division. We are a small fish in a huge pond and trying to compete with other clubs is still going to be hard.

Players like Tomlin and Baker may come here on loan, to get first team football...but trying to sign them full time onto a 3 year contract is a completely different ball game...and that is regardless of who the manager is and his recruitment team.

We are who we are...an unfashionable club with no real history of achievement.

    It's going to be hard.

    A bit like Leicester then...

I'm always amazed how people seem to think that "who we are", "our history" etc. has any bearing on players signing for us.

If we pay well, they will come.

Obviously, if we pay the same as Aston Villa, any sensible player would pick them.  But, I'll say again, if we pay well, they will come.  Over to Mr Lansdown (once again, after all his failures last summer).

    Just wow.

    For me, that topped Mansfield

I wish the silly buggers wouldn't put us through it like today though, the first half was abhorrent. The second was ok, Reid's exuberance and Odemwinge's brain were difference between first and second halves.

Will graciously take a loss and a win rather than 2 draws

Awesome day out, loads of noise, managed to turn it around. Great to see Ayling fit enough to come on again too

    Did Ayling come on?

If he did, then in fairness to me I did spend the last 5 minutes turned around facing the back of the stand with my eyes closed praying to a god I don't believe in.

  5. I had a dream that Marlon Pack scored the winner in the 88th minute.  0 - 1

It was a daisy cutter with his left foot from the edge of the box.  A good crowd of City fans went mad after it dribbled in.

So, if Pack gets to the edge of the box towards the end of the game, turn to your mate, and say "He's going to score here".  You'll be hailed as the season's soothsayer.  No need to thank me.

  6. But Ian (BristolBoy) who phones in after every bloody game said it was the worst away peformance of the season and Orient were the best attacking side he's seen this season.

He must be right, he always is (in his head).

I can't really make a comparison like BristolToddler only having gone to 2 away games.  But if that is our worst away performance then it might explain why we are top....

Orient weren't the best attacking side tonight.  But, as you say, who are we to disagree with Ian.

  7. Sakho was genuinely injured..back injury.

Missed a fair few games before the Africa cup of nations..

He missed the Everton replay and two league games during the African cup.

I'm sure the club must have checked with powers that be regarding the position if he was fit again while the competition is still on..but there again we have history for cock ups..so who knows!

Some have commented on here on whether it was WHU being a good side playing in second gear today...or are we just a poor side?

Been interesting reading on here, of opposition views...well,its a running argument at ours regarding Nolan and Noble playing in the same side. Fat Sam gets loads of grief regarding being blind where he is concerned, his favourite son so to speak.

Downing gets pushed out of his central creative role, and is not the same player.

Sakho and Valencia together is when we are at our best, today you put us under constant pressure and didn't allow us to create much. Defensively we were excellent in the main, although song was poor today. Almalfitano made a lot of difference when he came on, and of course sakho. Been an amazing find.

Winston Reid was our best player...but he won't be with us much longer.

I would have given MOM to Luke Freeman personally. Like him a lot.

I genuinely didn't know Downing was playing and even now, I'm not sure where he was playing.

The only players who stood out for me were Nolan (because of his constant niggly nasty fouls) and Carroll (because he looks like a girl).

Valencia and Song started well but seemed to disappear.

I applaud your fans though.  They took a vow of silence after leaving the M25 environs, and boy, did they honour it.

Your team did a professional job though and good luck for Round 5.

  8. The last game playing in the UK... again ..lorra larfs..

... FT 0-2.. great win despite not playing that well.. its a win and thats what top teams do; grind out results with an underbelly of class and intelligence that most teams cannot cope with.

    Well done lads.

Is it just me or are we always the last team playing?

Used to be, 16.45 would come round and I'd flick on teletext to get the FT scores.  Now I have to wait until 16.57 and teletext is rubbish.

  9. Does anyone know why the OFFICIAL Bristol City photographer Joe Meredith was ejected from the ground last night for sitting in the wrong place.....   :grr:

On entering the ground, he probably said to the stewards, "I know where I'm going and can I have a cup of tea please.  Usual mug".

This kind of attitude will get you ejected even if it's the contempt of familiarity.

  10. Good day one and all from Manila.. this match is way too late for me to listen to so an early night shortly followed by an early rise for the second half beckons.

The third of what will be 5 matches against the Gills tonight and I can only see a narrow win for City. 1-3 .. that is narrow no?

Flint, Smith (either will do) and Smith (either will do)

Are you saying Smith will score both of them, or will both of them score?

I think a narrow loss here so 1-0.
