Concussion is very serious and can lead to Alzheimer’s. To trivialise it by faking it would be pretty disgusting in my view. Appreciate you might not agree

I absolutely do agree with you.  Unfortunately, Colin won't agree with us...

I think the difference is fairly obvious - a player could be encouraged (or want) to play on despite showing signs of concussion, thus doing themselves serious damage without knowing it, when this is a bit more difficult if you’ve broken your leg!

I guess where it really comes into play is when a team has used up all their allotted subs at the time the player suffers that head injury. By allowing the extra sub it takes away some of that temptation to try to continue in order to avoid going down to 10 men.

And, going back to Graham’s point, there’s a good argument this is the ONLY time the rule should come into play, rather than when the team can still call upon their allotted five.

Yeah, I think this is my point. I can understand* if you get a concussion injury after your 5 subs then you get another sub.

If it happens with subs still available, then it's just another substitution?

*Actually, I don't agree with this as the trainer should be getting you off if you are concussed but I see why some would agree.

Part of the IFAB reasoning is the extra substitution being permitted encourages you to take off the player if there's a doubt about a potential concussion.

You're most likely coming off with a broken leg - apparently it happened once to Dave Whelan in a cup final but not heard much about that one. ?

No idea who/what IFAB is.  Why haven't managers said to players late in the game "Run into their big lump and fall over. When you get up, claim you are seeing double and love the little tweetie pies flying around"?

Hopefully nobody has any issue with extra allowance for concussion injuries!

I do.  Obviously, concussion, or worse, could be fatal and needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.  However, I can't see the difference with respect to substitutions with, for example, someone breaking their leg.

Why doesn't that justify an additional substitution?

  5. I'm always surprised with these highlight sections.

I was looking forward to seeing Bentley's two top-class saves in the second half as I believe they won us the game (concede one and it's squeaky bum time)...

Saying that, I had forgotten Bentley's save in the first half when they had a one-on-one.

Looking at these highlights, I'm minded to say Nicky Wells was MoM if it hadn't been for Nicky Massengo.

The situation we are in, is not Pearson's fault.

We've had years of bad decisions on the pitch, both in players brought in with no playing fit or plan of action, and also financially. Selling has been ok.

I have no expectations of promotion for this club...just mid table obscurity or avoiding relegation. That's how I see it. Regardless of who's manager.

I remember when we came up last time...I stated we needed to go up again within two seasons...or the chance would be gone. I feared we would become just like the majority in this league. Average. Just bang average for this league.

It would take a miracle or all stars to align for us ever to go up.

As a club of this stature...you just don't get the chance to develop as a team over a few seasons. Anyone that shines...gets sold on. It's a catch 22...one step forward, two steps back.

I find it the most frustrating part of following City.

The chances of any of our 'star' players, developing and staying together as a team...where they could become good enough to get promoted are nil imo.

We can't buy our way...and if we go down the route of developing...if you become good...you get sold.

So how is it ever going to work?

You need everyone in the squad having a star season. That opportunity will never arise.

I look at the under 25s in this squad...if we could keep them all together for the next 3 seasons...keep developing them at a good rate of knots. Play a system to their strengths...then it could be plausible.

But it won't happen ..for all the reasons mentioned.

How does any team in this league get promoted?  There must be something to do right as 3 teams get it right each season?

To say the only difference is a lack of diving is stretching reality. Everything about it is inferior to mens football which is why I find it such a hard watch - the lack of pace, lack of quality on the ball, decision making etc makes it unwatchable for me. Find it far less enjoyable than let's say womens cricket or golf which I do sometimes have a watch of.

Do you watch the Bristol City men's team? ?

As I said, that’s fair enough.

Personally, I am quietly optimistic of a top half finish; threatening, even attaining if we are lucky with injuries, the play offs.

    I hope you are right.

Damn. look what you've done now .... ?

    OK, that’s fair enough.

But, apart from having a rubbish defence, midfield and attack, all managed by someone who is only a patch on what he used to be 10 years ago, why are you so pessimistic about the upcoming season?

I'm a City fan.  It's the hope that kills me...so I'm giving up on hope.

  10. I believe we will be a lower mid-table team with the emphasis on lower.

    The reasons being:

    • Pearson isn't a very good manager.  I'm always surprised by how many think he's good looking at his record from 10 years ago whilst overlooking what is directly in front of them.
    • Our defence isn't very good.  People talk about the international Kalas but he has been responsible for some awful defending. Plus, if you think Dasilva is the answer... ?
    • Our midfield isn't very good.  We've got some good midfielders.  However, they are normally injured and will be injured again for much of this season.
    • Our forward line isn't very good.  Weimann had a fantastic season but I'm not convinced he can repeat that. Plus, Martin doesn't have the legs to test defences, and Wells is average.  Semenyo is the real-deal but the season momentum will be gone by the time he is back

Let's look back next May and see who gets this right. I hope the team is 10 places above where I think we will finish.

Yes I have heard this theory too, Cabot did spend a lot of time in Spain, whether that was in the Basque region I am not sure, but it might be another source of information for him. The thing that always makes me smile about these explorers is how they find things by accident, Drake was looking for the East Indies for example, Cabot thought he could find an alternative route to China.

Bit harsh.  Don't tell me you haven't been looking through a kitchen drawer for those passport photos and come across some old laces and thought "Hmmm, that's a really interesting discovery"?

Oh come on, I get it's annoying when we play like crap and get beaten but I don't think "A player looked like he might be good 3 - 4 years ago" is really a fair rebuttal.

A lot on here said they'd take sorting the wages out a bit, staying up, and seeing a load of our promising youngsters get game time and kick on. That's exactly what we've got.

It's definitely not been pretty but this season is pretty much what I expected so I'm not throwing my toys out just yet personally.

I have said Semenyo has got better so not really disagreeing with you there.  I don't think "a load of our promising youngsters get game time and kick on" has happened.  "get game time" perhaps but more through circumstance than Pearson's design.

Also, I'm not sure we have definitely stayed up.  It would be very surprising to be relegated from here but there is always one team who gets dragged into the relegation fight.  Maybe losing tonight wasn't that significant; but losing to Barnsley is!

    Any positive?

The huge improvement of Semenyo, Scott, Pring, and Massengo for a good chunk of the season?

Tonight was pretty awful but if you're saying there have been NO positives to his appointment before you're utterly blinkered.

I saw Semenyo's (friendly) debut and thought "Hmm, here's a player" so he was always likely to improve (many on here thought he was useless).  However, I give you Semenyo as a player who has improved under Pearson.

Scott is a good player.  I'm not sure he's got better though.  Likewise for Pring.

Massengo I suggest has got worse this season. I also saw his debut and thought again "Hmm, here's a player" but he has regressed firstly under Johnson and then Pearson.

So, I'll take the blinkers off and agree that Semenyo playing well is Pearson's one positive.

    Now, for the negatives....

It's amazing how clueless people are.

He was massively off form when he was dropped. We'll see if it worked over the next few games

How many games did O'Leary play, and how many goals did he concede?

In the same number of games before Bentley was dropped, how many did he concede?

In believe In 2020 an event in the stadium car park had to be cancelled due to toilets being in Wales

Someone should make up a song about that:

"Always shit on the Welsh side of the border. Because that's where the toilets are.  Please make an orderly queue."
