Imho, Tommy Rowe was a fantastic free transfer signing in his first season, but whether little niggles etc caught up with him last year or not, I don’t think he was the same player we’d seen in season one.  You are right, he was rushed back from one injury far too soon, and that really was the end of the road for him.  With Pring and Dasilva doing decent jobs down our left side, I’m not sure Tommy would’ve got many minutes.  Probably much better to have kept Nurse???

Now this I agree with. Obviously in hindsight its easy to say but he's done great for Shrewsbury. I always thought he looked good when he played for us. Relatively young still.

Hunt and Rowe were best to be moved on when they were. We are still having a reset of the team and it had to start with them.

  2. I'm not just being negative but think he has a point. We've been fortunate Weimann and to a lesser degree Martin and Semenyo have produced important goals to keep us afloat. In terms of how we've played throughout the season we've been second best against a large majority of teams.

Ian John Lewis's card there is an absolute madness.

At least we have Okolie to watch tonight and cheer us up eh, as well as the amusing wafts of Campbell Hatton.

    Hope this fella stays safe

edit- balls, I've missed Hatton. Looking better was he @RedRoss?

Was much more composed with his work, shot selection and variety much improved and didn't gas after 3 rounds like before.

Took his time by peppering his opponent and stopped him in the last round.

And again, I’ll then say in terms of football what is when the turnstile money doesn’t cover things?

We have a “guaranteed” stream. Non match day stadium income. But Covid stopped it and caused a lot of our problems.

So, what is Mr Jordan’s guaranteed stream that he points to outside of our current strategy?

The thing is this wasn't the main issue that has caused most of our problems. Covid accelerated the issue but paying over the top wages and fees and banking on success in the transfer market is the main issue. Even if Covid hadn't come along do you still think we'd get a return on the 4 million outlay on Kasey Palmer, the 8 million we paid for Kalas, the 4.5 million on Nakhi Wells? Those fees along with their hefty wages which are way above our pay grade.

  5. I do agree to be honest. To rely on a volatile transfer market to pay huge fees and wages above our level in terms of revenue to compete with teams with higher revenue streams and parachute payments is way too risky.

One or two bad investments which all clubs make with recruitment and we're heavily impacted. Now I know Covid has magnified the issue but we have to take responsibility.

Also others will point to Brentford ect but they were equally taking a big risk. They just made better decisions with recruitment and thankfully for them got promoted.

We must accept this critism as I know posters on here have been hugely critical of Derby ect for their dodgy accounting. Although we've not been deceitful we've been careless in terms of FFP and have to accept this viewpoint and any implications that may come our way.

Kieron Maguire has summed it up in the past. Most fans want a sustainable model for their club but they also want substantial investment and success. These two objectives usually never happen. More often clubs which are more sustainable tend to get relegated ie Wycombe, Rotherham ect. Basically we can't have our cake and eat it.

  6. We keep rehashing conversations about Taylor Moore. From interviews sounds like a very nice chap, that aside hes not good enough and I can't remember many games he was good. Not sure why so many fans seemed to rate him. Think it was the history of playing for England youth and Lens academy. We got our pants pulled down by Lens and hopefully we can shift him off the wage bill in the summer. Then again I also hope we do that with Vyner too.

  7. To be fair most of the Ipswich fans on that Crapinson post on their forum have said he's done okay and don't agree with the OP

He weakens our team and had some awful performances for us but I hope he does well for himself and also for us to get rid of him in the summer.

Seems like people here want him to fail so it vindicates our decision to let him leave and the Mark Ashton situation.

  8. I'd rather give credit to the youth set up we have who clearly are doing a great job day in, day out and Semenyo himself. Not sure Wright's suggestion 2 years ago is the reason Semenyo is starting to put away chances. Think the BP tried to credit him not so long ago but think it was just a slow media day.

Putting Covid, the Ashton affect and parachute payments aside, if BCFC cannot break even who can? We use our stadium each week (due to Rugby) rather every other week. We have great food and drink options at the ground so less revenue is lost to local pubs, we have a good summer concert program and uses for non football use of the buildings seems to be growing. Our attendance numbers are pretty good for this league and our season ticket prices are towards the highest in the Championship.

I have the feeling that since Covid, clubs have become more realistic on wages and if the stupid parachute payment system could be changed the league should become viable for a well run club.

My hope is that in summer we will cut our loses and move Palmer and Wells on and that SL will look ahead seeing a better picture.

In this way perhaps we could challenge for the prem not by spending big but by keeping our price assets.

I'm not sure all those revenue streams can be applied to FFP, also I don't think all teams outside of parachute payment clubs splurged like we did in recent years i.e 8 million on Kalas, 4 on Wells, 3 on Kasey ect.

I get the sentiment but it is just fantasy stuff to say “I’d happily lose Palmer & Wells & I don’t care where they go”.

They are on a rumoured £47k a week between them, that’s why we can’t get rid.

We need to stay inside FFP, Pearson is having to build a squad under much tougher restrictions than any manager of ours in years & sadly we will have to sell (at least) one of these to fund it.

The problems were caused by Ashton & LJ, but Pearson & Gould are being asked to solve them.

Completely agree, if it was that easy to get those two off our books we would of done that by now.

  11. I agree with the sentiment but football doesn't ever really work like that in reality. We are in the shit with our finances and I'm mostly worried with keeping our value with Massengo. His contract is up at the end of next season with no option. He's potentially outgrown us currently and I'm sure he has his own ambition further up the pyramid. I hope we don't keep him in the short team for another Diedhiou situation.

  12. I think one of LJ's biggest downfalls is his connection to fans. I'm not sure why maybe its the 'Brent' like phrases ect but it seems wherever he goes he rubs up some fans the wrong way with him just being himself. Even opposition fans seemed to dislike him too.

I think Sunderland was a very bad choice as their fans have got a sense of entitlement whenever I look on their forum. They may well be punching below their apparent club size and have for a while but they're expectation is very high so the chances of appeasing that fanbase was always going to be difficult.

  13. Hindsight is a great thing but I'm not sure it's his fault all those players are injured. I would say maybe the decision to resign Baker albeit on a lower wage after his previous injury record wasn't a great idea looking at it right now, also Andy King had a similar injury history at Leicester so was a big red flag. Its a difficult one because when they've both played before injuries I think they've been decent. It was a risk but it unfortunately didn't pay off.

Matty James is a player so I'm not surprised he took the chance to sign him again just unlucky to get injured.

Tanner and Atkinson we've missed playing so that just shows they are good signings and due to their respective ages I would hope they will play their part at some point down the line but limited this season.

Even without hindsight signing Simpson looked a terrible idea. Could tell his legs were gone straight away and that won't work in our team at all. Just a bad decision with this one unfortunately, atleast the financial impact isn't massive with this transfer.
