So we sold Alex Scott for approx £25m and to ensure our ongoing viability we need to shop around Carlisle, Wycombe, Oxford or wherever for a replacement that will cost us about as much in interest that the nest egg will generate.. This strategy will not only not take us forward over the next couple of seasons, we will regress as current experienced players leave or retire and out of contract players possibly see their future elsewhere and the squad gradually breaks up. Surely investing in not one but at least two quality signings of the ilk of Twine and still hold £10~15m as a nest egg would be the right move in supporting the current crop of top-half championship players and giving us supporters some real optimism for the future?

Reminds me a lot of Moneyball all this
1 “star player” or 2/3 decent players who make up the same average, thinking about it now I’d actually side more towards the multiple good players then 1 statement signing or whatever.
As much as I like our squad, there’s at least 5/6 minimum that aren’t playoff quality/can’t be coached to that level. So for me bringing in 3 players at £2m is preferable to one at 5, especially with the current size of our squad.
Be honest.. out of the minimum 5/6 players who you reckon aren’t playoff quality, how many were brought in over the last couple of seasons? No point in bringing in like for like for more of the same. We need a lift in quality from outside of leagues 1 and 2 if we want to reach the playoffs and beyond.

I think that’s a fair point if they are moving to what we’d call “similar clubs to us”. But who has done that? We haven’t sold a player in years on a sideways move.
You can’t stop a PL club coming in and turning their head.
We’ve yet to see a PP club take one of our players….yet! This summer might severely test that!
I mentioned Joe and Tommy as their contracts are up soon… I agree no way would we sell to a championship competitor… I don’t think Nige wanted Jay Dasilva to leave for example.

Debate all we want about fees but our sqaud is nowhere near good enough for top 6 unless we start spending a decent amount of money on quality then we will always remain a bottom half championship club.
Also, we need to offer hope to our current squad… if for example Joe Williams or Tommy can’t see a vision that they believe in for the future why would they sign a new contract as opposed to move to the likes of Coventry, Hull or any other more ambitious environment? We can’t stop players leaving for the prem, but it’ll be sad day if we lose our better players to the championship.

It is factually correct as well as historically correct.
Of course BOTH fixtures feature a mid table championship club - does he somehow think that they are an equal attraction to West Ham?
Pretty obvious why they choose our fixture for TV
Also, from BBC’s perspective there’s zero chance of an upset at the mem for the neutrals.

I should be off to bed really.. 2:15am.. But I’m listening to a West Ham YouTuber on Hammer chat moaning like you wouldn’t believe.. In his words Bristol we’re the better team, Moyes is a manual manipulator, all their top players are now injured, Bristol bullied us all game.. Liam Manning got his tactics spot on..

We’re still in it.. they’ve only one sub left too..
Jarrod Bowen though.. what a player

Only named 8 subs again.. even if Ephram is injured or ill you would have thought one of the other kids could have had a day to remember..
Fingers crossed for a Watford away type performance and then the result doesn’t matter so much..

Added incentive… if we don’t get a result against the Hammers this will be the first time for a very long time that the sags would be included in a next round draw in the FA or EFL cup where we have missed out. Now I know that they’re used to that level of disappointment but we’re not. WHU 1 BCFC 1.

Is it really that black and white? This is what I don't get though.
I asked for examples of what specifically Tinnion had done previously in this topic that could be proved and every answer was conjecture of sorts. However with that he's been called all sorts of names on here.
I don't know and can't say definitively one way or the other so I just don't think it's right to completely condemn somebody for hearsay at best. Even if he was part of it personal comments are low in my eyes. You can disagree with someone and that can get heated but it's embarrassing when our fans act like that.
It's funny Richard Gould is treated like our Lord and saviour on here but jumped at the next best thing straight away. Yet Tinnion has committed most of his life to us and showed utmost loyalty and is treated like shit. I know people will say he's in his job for the wrong reasons and he's not qualified to be in that position. I think he deserves a chance and some respect atleast.
As an example, wasn’t it Tinnion the one who was openly criticising Nige for playing Andy King at CB during our injury crisis? It wouldnt take too much imagination to see an environment whereby he would be bleating about an academy product not being given an opportunity and undermining Nige to the welcoming ear of the Lansdowns.. We used to see BT from time to time on RTV, no longer though, he’s lying low..

It's a free hit for us and sure most would settle for us to give a good showing. Good for the players as well to play at a a PL ground in front of a big crowd with no pressure on them.
West ham have 2 of their best players missing and will prob rest others including Bowen so you never know.
If we play like we did away to Watford then it’ll be a free hit and a great experience for the players and fans alike regardless of the score.. if we front up like we did in the two games since then it will be utterly demoralising for the players and the rest of us.

If the players want to leave… sell ‘em

I think that in time Sam will be a decent championship player, he’s only 21 is keen as mustard to learn and be better and we should all respect that he recently been called up for England under 20s.. remember his goal at Swansea last year.. quality. All of our attacking woes shouldn’t be laid at his feet.

Firstly define what kind of player you need. Secondly look around at who might be available and affordable. Form a list and rank them and then see who you can get. Most likely, it will either be someone not currently getting a game at this level with not much time left on their contract, or a player from a lower league either home or abroad. That’s the long and short of it, and the problem is there is no guarantee that what you really want even exists, which is where you may have to compromise. Cornick strikes me as a “compromise buy” as a replacement for Chris Martin. But as we now know his strike rate makes Martin look like Pele!
I don’t think that either a creative midfielder and or a striker who could power us up the league in the short term does exist from an availability and certainly an affordability perspective. Therefore my best bet for immediate impact would be the loan market from the prem, however I don’t think for one minute that we show the drive and ambition of the genuine top 6 contenders who year on year absolutely do utilise this loan market. No point at all in making likely relatively expensive compromise signings in January, although I’m guessing this is where we’ll be going with Brannagan from Oxford being one of the likely targets.

Could maybe that youngster we moved on. I think called Alex Scott and that other hopeful Semenyou made a difference?
Sure, but as you say they’ve moved on.. who have you got in mind that could replace them?

Agreed @Jerseybean but let’s not forget that previously, we put three past Hull and four past Watford - there is creativity and goals in the team but the last two games have shown a lack of consistency.
I firmly believe that a creative midfielder and striker are the two players we will look to bring in, in January - whether we can or do of course, are two different things but as you suggest, to progress in the 2nd half of the season, we must address the inconsistency.
Where could we possibly find the creative midfielder and striker that would be good enough, available and affordable and that would make an immediate impact? The only realistic solution would be a gamble on the loan market and perhaps pull off a short term Tammy type master stroke loan… can’t see us taking that gamble either though.

I tend to agree, if we were poles apart why would Burnley have recalled him from Hull?
