  1. What a fascinating picture! Not just the surrounding area, like where Cumberland Basin is now, but also I didn’t know there used to be an advert on the roof of the EE!
  2. Two pics I found on Facebook a while ago. The second one particularly resonates with me because it’s that’s the part of the ground I used to see with my dad when we walked towards the Dolman turnstiles in my first years of going to AG as a child.
  3. Another player who was before my time, but my dad’s always spoken very highly of him. RIP Bobby.
  4. What a mountain of a player. I’ve always been impressed when I’ve seen him play against us. All the best, Sol. Fingers crossed.
  5. Yes I have heard this too. I remember a kid at my primary school doing it, and that was in the 1980s when things between fans were already toxic. But it must have been common in the days before getting to away games was feasible. I’m intrigued to know how people who did this chose which side to support in a derby match.
  6. Very sad to hear that Bury have been expelled. A proud club with a long history. I feel very sorry for their loyal supporters.
  7. Well, that proves it then. I suppose common sense would suggest anyway that we have nothing better to do on Saturday than fork out whatever they charge to visit their “stadium” for a game just to cheer on one of our players on loan to their opposition.
  8. The fruit market side wouldn’t seem to be the ideal location for a stadium - there’s not much in the immediate vicinity. My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I’m sure I remember rumours of City considering it as a new stadium site at one point and I thought the same then.
  9. I thought we were unlucky not to get something out of today's game. One of those days when the ball just would not go in.
  10. Completely agree. I was only a young child at the time so only have vague memories of our financial collapse...but I do remember listening to that game at Eastville on the radio with my Dad (supporter since the late 1950s) and I've never seen him celebrate like that before or since - literally dancing around the room with delight. That proves to me how important that win was for the morale of the club.
  11. Liverpool and Leeds can only dream of having away support like that.
  12. Fantastic result. Two good away wins in a row, both with clean sheets. Great way to bounce back from last week's home defeat.
  13. Agreed. Glad he's starting. I've always thought he needs a run of games. The goal v QPR would have been a confidence boost. Now he needs to show us what he can do.
  14. A very welcome three points. Glad Matty Taylor got on the scoresheet and what a start Weimann has had.
  15. If we are suffering with injuries in defence and with Diedhiou still out I think we might struggle today. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  16. I was quite underwhelmed by our performance today. We didn't really pose much of an attacking threat or impose ourselves on them. Up front we missed a physical presence and didn't seem to be able to play the ball into space for our players to run on to. At the back we were OK but defended too narrow at times, leaving our wingers exposed (like with the cross for their goal). Forest looked the better side and were comfortable on the ball, but they seemed toothless in attack. Overall a draw was probably a fair result.
  17. Wow. That kit is horrendous. Up there with their Tesco carrier bag one for awfulness.
  18. Much better tonight. I was concerned at half time that they'd got a goal back, had chances, were finding gaps in our half and looked likely to score again but we were more solid in the second half. Joe Bryan had his best game for a while. Lloyd Kelly was very assured. Great interplay between Reid and Taylor for the third goal. The Djuric/Diedhiou pairing hasn't really worked yet - other players haven't been close enough to get the knock downs or to pick up the loose balls. It's good to finally beat Brum again, though.
  19. Two good goals for us, but we have been very open and their goal was coming.
  20. Glad Kelly is getting a start. I was hoping to see Eliasson start as well - he put a couple of decent crosses in at Millwall and that sort of quality delivery is needed for Djuric and Diedhiou to get on the end of. It'll be interesting to see if Brownhill or Smith are at right back with Reid on right midfield (with licence to roam) or whether it'll be three at the back.
