Because we don’t have the money to improve on what is a poor defence and midfield built on free signings. It’s really not hard to see.

I don’t mind if Pearson goes. But if you think the grass is greener and we’re going to suddenly start becoming a top 10 side without investment. You’re in for a shock.

Better squad of players for a start. Same way Forest had prior to Cooper.

I don’t think we will be a top 10 team but someone who can get us playing and not 1 in 4 games.

He literally invested in the defence. Why are you saying free transfers when it wasn’t?

People like me? Who actually understand where the fault is and where it started? Is Pearson to blame for everything? No. Has he made mistakes and deserves to burden some of the blame? Yes.

What is this squad capable of? Because I’ve heard this tune for about 4 years and we’ve got nowhere. Because this squad is simply not good enough.

This is all de ja vu from the Millen, Mcinnes era rtc. We’ve been here before and made the same mistakes.

Reality is. It’s going to be a miracle to remain  in this division until we clear FFP and can start making actual decent investments and not make the same mistakes when backing Johnson.

Ridiculous statement, we got a front 3 with loads of goals. He’s literally invested in his own defence and now doesn’t fancy them.

The bloke gets a free ride because he’s cut the budget. What a hero give him keys to the city.

We are in no better position on the field now than we were under Holden.

Why can’t we defend set pieces? Why do we constantly concede such pathetic goals?

You’re going to tell me that’s FFP fault too.

I wouldn’t even vote. The damage is already too much from previous running of the club under Ashton.

If Pearson went. Who would actually improve things with 0 budget to play with? I don’t think there is one.

It’s honestly mental, people like you will let him get away with anything. It’s been an absolute shitshow.
He is getting nothing near close to watch this squad is capable of. Far too quick to give him an easy ride. He has made absolute zero improvement on the pitch and funnily enough that’s his job.

Should have gone over a year ago. Enough is fully enough now.

My 11 year old son and his friend want a city away kit for Christmas, but they are out of stock in the club shop.

I phoned this morning asking when they will be back in the shop.

    The answer was "they won't!"

No chance of finding any in my local sports direct! I find it incredible.

Surely some more can be made!

Be easier to get a dukla prague away strip at this rate

I am able to get replica kits for pretty much any club. If you’re interested with Xmas coming up please let me know.
    Loads of replica stuff too.

Here are just a few I’ve got recently

Bored with this , I like discussions where I might be right or wrong and not get into childish name calling ?

My bit was taken from the same site , and in my opinion was dangerous/reckless . Even by your choice of law, it says indirect free kick and studs up at head height I still say is dangerous. As I said before, goals have been disallowed for dangerous play so it is clearly an offence.

To finish, I've been on a Referee forum and this same thing was mentioned. The result was ...

It all depends on whether there is contact or not. Contact = Penalty, No contact = Indirect Free Kick

    And a booking.

My original post was whether there was contact. No contact no pen.
As I just said in a previous post. It’s one of those huge grey areas. If it’s given for you, you agree. If it’s against you you’re saying it’s an awful decision

  6. 1 hour ago, ExiledAjax said:

No, no, I can respect the opinion of a qualified referee, of course I can. Thanks for the clarification as it explains the referee's view (assuming he agrees with you) as to why it might not be a pen. @MarcusX pointed it out as well so thanks there too.

When I was making my earlier posts I was of the view that the defender could be considered to be attempting to kick Wells rather than the ball. But I understand that this is assuming the worst rather than the best intention. Are refs told to give the benefit of the doubt to the defender?

Your other post highlights the dangerous play. So in your opinion should we have had an indirect free kick?

I would say it’s a massive grey area, if I was playing and that’s given against me I’m fuming. If it isn’t given for me you’re fuming. Just a massive catch 22. In my opinion it’s dangerous isn’t it.
Personally I’d be happy with nothing given as long as consistent

Did the defender attempt to kick Wells or attempt to kick the ball?

The attempt to kick a player portion is about a delibarate attempt to kick, trip or pull back a player. It's specifically about someone attempting to bring a player down and failing (eg a professional foul) can still be a free kick even if no contact made (and a yellow or red card)

The more it's discussed the more I'd lean towards an indirect free kick if there was no contact (impeding the progress of a player without contact), or a penalty if there was contact - which I thought there was

    Someone who finally understands. ??

attempted to play the ball + no contact

    What like these *rules

What constitutes a dangerous play in soccer?

Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury.

    *******

    1. Direct free kick

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

    * Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned

    * Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed

In your 'rules' are you allowed to throw a punch, but you only get sent off if you connect ? And Nakhi has to lose an an before you get a free kick. I've seen plenty of free kicks where no contact is made and fouls given, and a fair few goals chalked off for dangerous play from an overhead kick

    *laws :whistle2:

    PLAYING IN A DANGEROUS MANNER

Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury.

A scissors or bicycle kick is permissible provided that it is not dangerous to an opponent.

IMPEDING THE PROGRESS OF AN OPPONENT WITHOUT CONTACT

Impeding the progress of an opponent means moving into the opponent’s path to obstruct, block, slow down or force a change of direction when the ball is not within playing distance of either player.

All players have a right to their position on the field of play; being in the way of an opponent is not the same as moving into the way of an opponent.

A player may shield the ball by taking a position between an opponent and the ball if the ball is within playing distance and the opponent is not held off with the arms or body. If the ball is within playing distance, the player may be fairly charged by an opponent.

again you are wrong you clown but please continue to make a fool of yourself

@Bs4Red the relevant parts of the Laws are as above, which I posted earlier. @BTRFTG has ably summarised them as well.

There's no requirement for contact in the Laws and an attempt to kick an opponent is just as serious as actually kicking them. This results in a direct free kick, and if it occurs in the box then it's a penalty.

The high kick is a stonewall, definite penalty.

The shirt pull I accept there's more debate over, but in my opinion on a strict reading of the Laws it is also a penalty.

No, because the player hasn’t attempted to kick or actually kicked him. He’s attempted to kick the ball.

It’s a matter of opinion for each person. You can not agree but as a qualified ref I’d be happy to stick with my opinion

The problem is that contact does create a direct free kick offence, but it's not a requirement for one.

People focus on contact or no contact as that's easier, but you don't have to have contact. IIRC we saw that with the Hull penalty against us back in August. Contact was minimal, but it was seen as a careless/reckless attempt to trip the Hull player, and so it was a penalty.

No it was a penalty because there was contact. You literally just said that.

For me, 2 Pens. The only thing I can say in defence of thee Ref is he may not have seen the massive tug on Well's shirt .
The other one is dangerous play, at the very least. If you can cancel out a goal for it (overhead kick etc) then you can give a Pen.

I couldn't get a good grab of the shirt pull, but it's pretty obvious. Can't see the Refs view which would be the only excuse.

Again. If he didn’t make contact with Nakhi it’s not a penalty. Learn the rules

  12. 2 minutes ago, BTRFTG said:

Both incidents were pens from where I was sitting in The Dolman.

I'm fairly sure the reason they weren't given was only minutes earlier Wells (and others) spent ages berating the referee for two claimed infringements (one also inside the box,) that were nothing of the sort. Doesn't make it right but we make a rod for our own back.

Officials have cottoned on to the fact Weimann, Wells, Scott, Sykes & Pring all have a propensity to throw themselves over then  vigorously complain when not given the decision they've decided they deserve, or in Scott's case get penalised for the inevitable handball given as he's out to grab the ball even before hitting the deck.

Yes its cheating, yes other teams do it, but they do it better than us. Stop crying wolf and I think we'll start to get that we deserve.

If he didn’t make contact with wells face it’s not a penalty. Other one, we’d have 10 a game.

The Change of Manager debate always cracks me up. The average manager, averages around a 40% win ratio. Any other manager would be in a top flight job,

I'm afraid to say that any change of manager at Bristol City, will result in appointing a similar %age winning manager. I can't argue with NP's stats at Bristol City - they are poor, but look at what he is working with at the moment. If the board keep him or sack him, I will be right behind the 40 per-center at our club.

Let’s look at what he has to work with that he’s not getting enough out of tomo

Ducking what? You think we'd afford Dyche, let alone him entertain the thought of coming here?

Better question is whether we can afford to sack NP in the first place.

Sweet ****ing Lord. I didn't realise we were that deluded.

Pretty sure if you read I clearly say he’s out of reach but I was likening someone of that ilk who has a track record of success on a shoestring budget

Just a simple Q.  Do you think we’d bottomed out at the point of Holden’s sacking and everything from that point on should be “upward” (even if slowly upwards)?

    Im interested.

My view is that we still had to bottom out, and that happened in the summer as we released several players.  Therefore I think it’s “unfair” to start the comparison at Feb 2021.

You may disagree.  But I’d like to know your thoughts.

For info, Wilder might be out of a job, but I bet Boro are still paying him, and his payoff would instantly make him completely out of our reach.

I like Duff, I’m a bit apathetic to Bowyer if I’m being honest.

Those were just a quick rattle off the top of my head, I just think they are out there if you look.

I can’t see SL pulling the trigger this season anyway. I just hope he does before we are in L1.

Pay the same money as every happy clapper, moaner, superfan out there, if you want to boo. You want NP, don’t want NP.

NP OUTer, who realistically would you bring in who fits the remit of cutting wage bill and bringing through the academy players? I am curious as I’m seeing a lot of debate but not really seen any credible names

Pearson hasn’t brought through academy players, he’s had no choice and a bit of luck that a couple were decent.

The same as when LJ got a stroke of luck that Bobby was a striker, people wouldn’t credit him with a masterstroke.

Michael Duff, he’s done a great job at Cheltenham with no money and is now doing well this season with Barnsley, would cost much to prize him away from there.

Chris Wilder, proven in the championship. Free agent. Sheff U probably best team I’ve seen in championship under him with the overlapping CBs

Lee Bowyer, did a fantastic job at Birmingham under much much worse conditions than we have at AG currently.

I don’t know who'd I’d want but there are candidates out there.

    2) Get Behind The Team - So We Stay Up This Season
    3) Judge The Manager After The Summer  - After The Clear Out

    Or we get relegated.

Im always behind the team every week wanting us to win but travelling to watch some of the football I’ve witnessed this year would suggest survival might not be that simple.

    “Our situation”

Like many championship clubs that have done the same isn’t great. But we are not the only ones, nobody knows the exact details just that it’s financially bleak along with 6/7 other clubs.

We are not the worst off by any means

We are definitely still cleaning up the mess but I always felt Pearson was not getting the most from what he has. The more time goes on I am convinced he is getting closer to the least he can from it.

If we had tried different formations and different players in different roles and it didn’t work I think I could so much easier say it is personnel. It is not the case though. It is this rigid 352 343 thing where we ask 2 non defensive midfielders screen the defence. We ask 2 wingbacks to defend as first priority. We force out of form Weimann everywhere except up front after a 20 goal season(more forward last season than this whether he has been asked or the style just does not allow it could be a separate debate). Persisting with Martin who offers nothing anymore. It is all just chuck the same thing out there and hope for something different. At the minute we are relying on Scott, Conway and Wells to create enough magic to mask our defensive deficiencies.

To me it is all a jumbled mess and NP has no clue how to fix it. Bloke has a 30% win rate in near 200 games since he left Leicester. He spent loads at Leicester to get promoted. In the range of 10-15m and this was 10 years ago. Even if you believe with resources he can improve us, he won’t be getting near that any time soon here.

I am sorry I don’t want to turn this into a pissing contest with people who support NP. He just is not doing anything to sway me back his direction. I don’t care about right or wrong I just want to see city do well. So if he can turn this around I’d be thrilled to say I was wrong but he has to buck up his ideas over this WC break.

Pretty much nail on the head for me, he hasn’t improved us and I don’t think he knows how too.

There is enough potential in that squad to be top half.
