It was a great night. The players present were:

Gordon Parr, Jantzen Derrick, Mike Gibson, Gerry Sweeney, Sir Geoff Merrick, Tom Ritchie, Paul Cheesley, Trevor Tainton, Clive Whitehead, Mickey Tanner, Alan Walsh, Scotty Murray and (gatecrasher) David Mogg who was not in the book. Alan Dicks, Marina Dolman, Phil Tottle, and Nigel Turner were also present alongside author Richard Latham.

I forgot Gary Owers and Chris Honor.

ps what the **** is “the football content award”, can I make my own award show for favourite laces?

psps looks like a community club hall with a load of random middle aged men. I applaud the effort but prestige this is not.

I don't know what it is either. There seems to be an award for anything these days as I understand the SAGS are favourites for the best tent on the terraces award.

Taking Grealish off and leaving Sterling on is a joke. Southgate out.

Grealish very unlucky to get the hook. He may be a bit of a divvy off the pitch but he is superb on it. He commits opposition players and invariably gets into the box where they can't touch him.

    we didnt score at ipswich....

The Ipswich game was a strange one though. We had plenty of the ball and chances, while everything Ipswich hit went in and they definitely took advantage of a 'homer' ref. We played a lot worse when they stuck 4 past us in the Cup some years earlier.

Definite penalty if it’s happened inside the box

Definite penalty in the game as it is played today. I'm not saying its wrong but it is inducative of how the game has changed from the 70/80s when a high foot would have seen the award of an indirect free kick, something that seems to have gone from the game entirely.

Best retort I heard from a ref was “don’t talk like a c#£& and play like one too” ?

My favourite has to be Razor Ruddock on ref Roger Milford. Playing for Southampton against Arsenal he told Milford he was having a ****king nightmare and called him a ****. Milford, calling Ruddock over said Look at the Scoreboard. Your losing 3-1 so it's you who's having a ******* nightmare and playing like a ****. Now **** off.

I suppose the frustration is which clubs are currently seen as "bigger, better, and with more chance of winning things":

    • Lloyd Kelly moved to the "bigger and better" Bouremouth
    • Bobby Reid moved to the "bigger and better" Cardiff
    • Joe Bryan moved to the "bigger and better" Fulham
    • Adam Webster moved to the "bigger and better" Brighton
    • Josh Brownhill moved to the "bigger and better" Burnley

I don't really mind us losing our best players as that happens to every club in the world (perhaps bar Real Madrid and Barcelona). I absolutely get why these players move....they would be crazy to turn down premier league football and money.

However, I can see why one might be frustrated about some of the clubs listed above being considered a step up from us. Perhaps that's what @Sleepy1968 was getting at?

Just imagine what Swindle, the Gas and Villa fans were thinking when Sean Taylor, Matty Taylor and Scott Murray moved to us.

That does make sense but as we all know money talks so it won't happen. As for the champions league how can it continue to be called that when you got 3 other teams plus the champions participating from England and similar in other countries. Maybe let the current champions join in at a later stage would help!

Just restrict it to one team per national league, I. E. The Champions. Everyone else is in the other comp.

I agree something needs to change to stop these meaningless games and the smaller nations should be in their own qualifying groups.

I couldn't disagree more. As far as I'm concerned all seedings should cease and there should be a straight draw in all competitions run by FIFA and UEFA, including the terribly misnamed Champions League. All affiliated nations and clubs have paid their dues and deserve to be afforded respect. It won't happen of course because those that run FIFA and the confederations are much  more interested in lining their pockets than programmes to improve facilities and coaching in the smaller nations.

  11. There are many highlights, Arsenal in Div 1, Coventry to stay up, Chester to seal promotion from the 4th, the incredible 5-4 win at Mansfield, a 4-1 at Barnsley, numerous cup games against non league sides and, of course, any win against the Gas, Swindle or Baadiff. However, I'm going for the 1-0 win against Spurs at White Hart Lane 76/77. After surviving crowd trouble which saw us confined to the stands, and an absolute battering by Spurs especially Hoddle, to win it at the death was an amazing feeling. I was walking on air back to Tottenham Hale tube and sunk a fair few pints of Sam Smiths Old Brewery Bitter in the Merry-Go-Down that night.

  12. I'm surprised we haven't seen this more often. There is no reason at all why a women official should not be as physically fit or as knowledgeable about the laws of the game than their male counterparts. Put aside the old jokes about explaining the offside rule to a woman, there are many in the game who could readily explain it to us. The point made by others about respect towards the officials could also be relevant.

  13. He's a decent player when he on it, but like Kasey consistency is not his, strength. Not too sure what to make of the Post rating that gave him a 6 but with a comment that he would have been MOTM  crossing was to players in red shirts.

His private life has nothing whatsoever to do with what he does publicly. He would gain a lot more respect from the majority of football fans in this area if he set an example and left his bigoted past in the past. At some point in the past he said he was proud to be a Bristolian, well its about time he started showing it.

How is he bigoted? He's certainly no more bigoted than those who despise him simply because he supports the Gas or because he holds a view contrary to their own. Any disparaging remarks he may of made in the past about City pale in comparison to many comments made about the Gas on this forum.
