Turtle here’s my reckoning….you might be surprised

Points dropped / gained due to late goals (in the last fifteen minutes of games) this season

Home to Blackpool - 2 points

Away to Forest Green Rovers - meaning a penalty shoot out which we lost 6-5

Home to Luton - 2 points

Away to QPR + 2 points

Home to Fulham + 1 point

Away at Peterborough + 2 points

Home to Forest - 3 points

Away to Coventry - 2 points

Home to Blackburn - 2 points

Away to Hull - 0 points (both teams scored beyond 75 minutes)

Home to QPR - 1 point

    Home to Millwall +2 points

Away to Preston - 2 points

Away to Swansea - 2 points

Home to Coventry - 2 points

Away to Blackburn + 2 points

Home to WBA - 0 points (both teams scored beyond 75 minutes)

    Overall - 7 points

Points dropped / gained due to goals (in the last five minutes + additional time of games) this season

Home to Blackpool - 2 points they equalized in the 93 minute

Home to Luton - 2 points they equalized in the 91 minute

Away to QPR + 2 points we scored in the 93 minute

Home to Forest - 3 points they scored in the 91 and 92 minutes

Away to Coventry - 1 point they scored in the 92 minute

Away to Hull + 1 point we equalized in the 91 minute

Home to QPR - 1 point they scored in the 93 minute

Home to Millwall +2 points we scored in the 85 minute

Away to Preston - 2 points they equalized in the 94 minute

Home to Coventry - 1 point they scored in the 89 minute

Away to Blackburn + 2 points we scored in the 92 minute

Away to Stoke +2 points we scored in the 84 minute

12  points lost, 9 points gained, overall 3 points lost.

Wow only 12 points lost.. (7 unique occasions)

    I mean "only"

That can't be in line with league average, it just can't.  There was a moment this season where instead of having the urge to chuck my phone out the window, I was laughing at the ridiculousness of it.

    12 points is somewhat surprising

    7 unique occasions - 46 games (15% of games)

    P. S thanks for the info, appreciated ??

Thought I’d attempt an immediate end of season summary. I very much look forward to hearing from other posters on their synopsis of our 21/22 season.

NP has said ‘I will reflect on the season when it's over but we're making good progress in the case of individuals coming on and collectively as well we have a more visible identity and I think that's important for us.’ He also noted ‘this has been a crucial season for us and the changes we’ve made will be fundamental going forward.’

It’s difficult to know where to start, given it’s been a real mixed-bag of a season, so I’m going with a positives and negatives approach, although I acknowledge this leaves room for plenty of stuff to fall between these extremes.

    Positives:

We end the season a Championship team. In many respects that’s down to there being a couple of very poor Championship teams this season, the significant points deduction imposed on Derby County and us managing to take points off those who were relegated (Barnsley = 3 points, Peterborough = 4 points and Derby = 6 points.)

Our goal scoring threat, only the top six teams scored more than our 62.

The emergence of some really good young talent.

Nigel Pearson IMO has made a positive impact overall, although I recognize this has not yet translated  into consistent performance or points. However, he has (1) Cut the squad drastically, in so doing reducing the wage bill and clearing out players that were deemed not for the future. (2) Provided opportunities to numerous youngsters, although there have been downsides to this overall it’s been successful and refreshing to see them gain experience and grow. (3) Spoken succinctly, honestly and straightforwardly, again something I find utterly refreshing, although I know his communication style isn’t to everyone’s tastes. (4) Had more time to carefully assess our strengths and weakness on and off the pitch and to decide what needs to change. (5) Added positively to the squad in a considered and modest way with the likes of Tanner, Atkinson and James. (6) Begun the long process of change on and off the pitch (7) Addressed the culture

We have the making of a decent team especially with the anticipation that the closed season will see more departures (both of more players not deemed good enough and potentially some of our greatest young assets) and hopefully some new signings required to strengthen the squad.

The vast majority of the fan-base have remained hugely supportive and positive. In fact considering some of our performances the fans have been outstandingly positive and loyal.

    Negatives:

Our shocking inconsistency, highlighted by managing just one back-to-back win all season.

    Our early season home form.

The number of goals conceded, only Reading and Posh leaked more than our 77.

The number of late goals we conceded. Last season late goals helped us with a total of 5 points salvaged in the final 15 minutes of games. This campaign goals conceded in the last 15 minutes cost us 7 points.

Losing Nathan Baker, George Tanner and Andy King to injury for a good chunk of the campaign.

Danny Simpson proving to be not good enough. He played 499 minutes for us in all: five starts, two substitute appearances, 18 times on the bench.

The most revealing and critical statistic is how many points adrift from the team finishing second we have been:

    2021/22 = 33 points

    2020/21 = 40 points

    2019/20 = 20 points

    2018/19 = 19 points

    2017/18 = 23 points

    2016/17 = 39 points

    2015/16 = 37 points

I'm guess the last 15 minutes stat comes from points won and points lost ...... Because it feels like a  hell of a lot more. If we talk about points dropped from winning positions in the last 5 minutes, I would be shocked if it wasn't over 15 points.

  4. 40 mins, stop the clock.

Players would soon stop all this messing about if they realised it made no difference.

What happened after real scored in injury time was beyond a joke. Taking momentum out of a game has always been more or less tolerated, but its gone too far now, games at elite level literally die.

    As an aside....

    Now that's another level

The original post was about watching live without a VPN so this is a bit of a tangent. Anyway, watching via a VPN maybe OK at the moment because relatively few people do it. If it became the norm for the majority of supporters to do this something would change because clubs would lose out on match day attendance and gain very little from the live streams. The obvious solution would be to stop  live streams by countries outside of the UK and restrict coverage to companies such as Sky etc in the UK and Robbins TV and equivalents.

The silly thing is they can literally stop you using the city APP with a VPN if they so choose.

Bbc Iplayer used to do this, then stopped for reasons i don't fully understand. But useful for me.

Paddy Power, doesn't allow any vpn use.

There are a number of sites, that while they can't tell where you trying to gain access from, they prohibit access via a VPN.

If they wanted to, they could do it.

With SKYGO, I have a  similar problem, (their system is a little different) but skybet no issue (I wonder why)

Yep. I mean what Simone has achieved there is impressive. Two titles in a 2 team league, 2 CL finals, a new stadium etc. But it does feel as if they need to change the way they play. They showed at end they are pretty good going forward when they need to.  If they’d attacked like that for 180 minutes over two ties I’m sure they may well have scored..

Though think Man C got away with a pen near end so somehow VAR did them a favour as well

It's been the same for the last few years. They keep trying to change, but when the results fade, or pressure kicks in, they revert to type.

They were favourites for the league this year, they were no longer the underdogs, and it got to them. They tried to dominate but kept letting in sloppy goals.

every year for the last few years, they'll stsrt with a possession based game etc, but the moment results fade, the term identidy crisis comes in and they revert to type.

Thing is they no longer have to the players to just sit in, as they'll always give chances.

But how to change the very fabric of a club, they are the underdog, they are against the world,  to change won't just happen in 5 minutes, or even a season. It has to be built on slowly.  It's for this very reason simeone will probably leave soon. He absolutely wants to be the one to change it, but every loss like that leads to massive reflection, and what he wants is atletico to succeed even if not him. He'll always be way beyond a legend there.

And when simeone goes, who do you get in? They aren't absolute top year, nor are they second tier, they are a 1.5 level club.

Managers see themselves as too good, or they see managers as a step down. Personally I think they'll go for emery as he offers them opportunity in the one tournament they truly crave.

I was gonna say the same!

The support they had inbthat stadium tonight was fantastic

Don't get the plastic statement at all

100% and you can't appreciate how loud it really is in there on TV. At times you can't hear yourself think.

And I can promise you, if atletico ever go down again, the following season they'll have more season ticket sells, not less. (this happened last time) it would be a call to arms.

Atletico are many things, but plastic fans, absolutely not.

  8. Watched the game while at the driving range today; conceding yet another last min goal led to so much frustration, I hit my 3 iron 15 yards further than my previous shot.

Not only that, I added 11 yards to my 3 iron PB.

Now that's how you put last minute nonsense to good use.

Think they’d just had an attack, and it kinda wasn’t great timing.

I think these things should be done (in the main) at half time

A bit off topic, personally I would do it before the first game of the season.

1 minutes applause, with the names of those sadly passed since the start of the previous season shown on the big screen.

I think it's the best way to show respect to those who connect us all.

Never been but it’s on the list , from what I’ve seen it’s beautiful and has amazing grub!

Don't be seduced by the pizza though, that's for the South of the country.  Its decent without being spectacular Rome or north.  (food wise, pizza has been my only disappointment on 3 Italian visits, but as I've been told by friends from the South, "in the North they don't understand pizza)

Something and nothing, it’s what can often happen when you don’t respect your surroundings and celebrate a goal in the  home end. Not condoning it but the Golden rule is sit on your hands and keep head down.

It really is a country to country thing. In Spain it's really not a thing with the exception of local derbies.  Then it really does get personal. If you do it at a Derby, we'll, you are injured or no longer in stadium.

    However

I've seen barca fans celebrate in the Bernabeu home end to my shock.

I saw away frans openly wear away shirts in the home end of the Calderón. A first I must say.

In the last two week I've seen:

United fans openly celebrate in the wanda, and my first thought was, if this was at city you'd be having issues right now.

And slightly different, inter fans sat with their AC mates in the home end. Not a peep, not an issue.

    .......................

I personally wouldn't do it as like you said its asking for trouble. Nor do I think it applies to every country though.

  12. My love for Mr noble football wise was as high as it could go. One of my favourite players. Just such a technically gifted and intelligent player.

So you can imagine seeing him out and offering to buy him a drink, and he insists on buying me one instead. I was star struck to say the least.

  13. Slightly off but on topic.

Can someone please tell the commentators, that just after City go 2 down its not great to start taking about  how the next Goal is vital, especially if city get it early.

It's not the first time it's happened this season and I really don't want to throw my phone out the window as I live on the 5th floor. When it hits someone on the head and kills them, not sure my "because they overhyped the next Goal" will hold up in court.

  14. First you have to figure out the problem.

    Crosses we aren't great

    Stopping crosses aren't great

Our way of marking corners isn't great.

We run out of steam at the end of game

    ...............

The ones above are pretty basic.

The ones below need to be solved throughout rest of season and summer.

    ...............

Does our defence get enough protection from midfield?

How are we in transition, do players actually know their jobs, are they the right jobs?

Where do we press, how and when?

How do we stop so much time in our own half?

    ................

Some of it is individual errors.

But some of it comes down to management decisions.

Either way right now it's not great,

    Step one for me....

Players going all out to stop those crosses + players being so much better in owning our own box

  15. Atletico V United

Literally didn't hear the United fans till they scored, just the roar. And even after didn't hear them again.  (yet pre game they were all over that part of the city)

Inside that stadium they were drowned out as a point of principle.

    What an atmosphere that was.

  16. Goal + assist.

And doing it often. Since Xmas you've felt he's had it in him every game.

Don't need your strikers to be perfect.they will make errors, it comes with being a striker.  Toches can be poor, the run can be wrong. But it's about getting it right sometimes and then making something from when you do.

What you do need them to do is contribute + feel that a goal is in them at any point.

He's becomes that guy since Christmas, definitely a man in form. He's worked hard on the training ground, this had led to results, which leads to belief in working hard, its a positive circle.

The only real question he needs to answer is how long his next "off spell" lasts.  Overcome that and he'll play at a very high level.

Right now, he deserves all the acclaim coming his way. Its a joy to watch him clearly enjoy football

Jordan did not make one disparaging comment about City or SL for that matter. He was trying to explain how FFP regulations apply and the difficulties that some Championship clubs encounter.

To the point when Murphy was slightly negative about SL he absolutely rejected it.

It was a curious listen if nothing else.

So Simon Jordan thinks a strategy of buying low and selling high is a poor one. Thanks for that Simon, I’ll go for the “buy high, sell low” strategy that led Palace to administration.

And Simon also thinks we can’t blame Covid when the financials he’s referring to are 20/21 when Covid was in full flow, and we’re now out and adjusting - ie not blaming Covid currently. I’m not sure Simon understands accounts are published retrospectively.

There’s a reason I don’t listen to Talksport. I’ve probably just identified it.

It's not the process as such, but the fact it's the difference between hitting fair play and not.

His argument was it shouldn't be a factor in hitting fair play or not.

You can't run a business on this basis because if you don't sell high/or at least well, you are F****d

Doing it is one thing, gets that part, being the difference between missing fair play and a points deduction is another matter.
