  1. Playoff mix, like a real challenge.

It's not enough to make small progress, year on year.. to then be broken up by the big clubs buying power in a few years; healthier bank balance, square one on the pitch isn't why you watch football. (Plus before you know it , hola relegation battle)

Promotion is not the be all and end all.

But to be a successful season, go into is game 42-43 knowing if you win those last 3 or 4, you're top 6.

And that’s also why they are called Milan and not Milano, ie the anglicised name of the City. And, for similar reasons, why one of the two Genova clubs is called Genoa.

The AC stands for Associazione  Calco which translated means Football Club.  So in English AC Milan are Milan FC.

The club was founded by English expats and was originally called the Milan Football and Cricket Club.

Any idea why a club founded by expats somehow went down the route of not wanting to sign non Italian players?

Seems an odd position to take, thus leading to the creation of inter

Hmmm... Not sure you're right on that...

    Madrid = Real Madrid

    La Real = Real Sociedad

Oh how you disappoint me, la real and real are Miles apart. As a better Spanish speaker than me I expected better. (I did actually doubt myself, so sent a few messages of confirmation ?)

La real is the nickname, literally the royals. It's not the same. (In the way that real and atleti are not nicknames)

if you said, how did real play this weekend? Everybody would assume Madrid. The LA matters ?️

Real/Madrid= it's pretty much in equal measure.

    Sociadad/la real =

    Betis

Ps. Even within this thread, cityexile took the real route

Funny isn't it? City are Bristol City, not Bristol. You can't call Manchester City 'City' because they are, well, Manchester City. You can't say Sheffield because there's two Sheffield clubs.

But AC are called Milan and Inter Milan are called Inter. I'm lost.

With Milan and inter it especially works due to how inter were founded.

    ......

    However

Take Madrid getting the REAL  treatment, disregarding betis, sociadad, and others.

I mean they even get Madrid, as though atletico or vallecano have no say.

Guess other countries fans are less sensitive to their full name being stolen, not recognized, disrespected.

They are what they are and they own it.

One of my happiest days, after years of heartaches and near misses we finally escaped league one! What a special team that was, in my 31 years so far of watching City, 2006-09 is by far and away my favourite period.

As i said to @elhombrecito, those two years were an incredible adventure. A wild ride where everything and anything first felt mythical then became a reality.

the story may have had a "tragic movie ending" but the journey to get there; if you were lucky enough to live it, you'll truly understand.

They probably just had a quiet word about the way it could have been perceived. He probably had no thought about who the player was.

Respectfully, let’s not start another culture wars discussion….. nothing new ever gets said

I've said before, as an opposition manager I have hated him and some of the things his teams get up to. But there was a period he was not Managing but working on talksport. He was great, humble , interesting and intelligent with comments and explanations. Came across as a genuinely decent guy, much different to the one who always gets results for teams. Like him or hate him, you can't deny he gets results.

He was fantastic on talksport for all the reasons you stated. Simply a person who loves football and didn't take himself seriously at all either.

I once very confidently predicted that Bobby Reid would never make it at Championship level.

    I'm an idiot.

Dont feel bad , i predicted the GJ league one promotion team had no hope in the division above, based on 90 mins of non city championship football

Very happy with that draw. Don't care about our 'English' sides much, especially the two who are left in it.

Glad to see a resurgence from Italian Football. Would love a Milan derby for a semi final, that would be unreal, but equally I would love to see Napoli go all the way, they're one hell of a team at the moment.

The San siro deserves one more champions Derby before it goes. I wanted it to be in this round.  If that came to be, would try very hard to go.

  11. Union berlin (from what I've heard it's another level of support, they are actually worried the secret is out)

San siro - not long left. Drink in the centre, then go. Incredible city centre/average city overall though

Atletico Madrid - bigger the game the better.

Cadiz (their whole football culture is based on party, who cares about the result ? it's high on my list to visit, heard a lot of good things)

Tenerife - Sunshine + drinks + football.  Especially if you can mix with carnival in February.

Atalanta - read about them. Utterly committed City to their team. Even if the city airport does serve Milan (useful for going)

    .................

P.s Bilbao v sociadad - the most curious of all derbies.

Wiki on Jose:  Then, in 1992, an opportunity arose to work as a translator for a top foreign coach: Bobby Robson had been appointed as the new manager of Lisbon club Sporting CP and needed an English-speaking local coach to work as his interpreter.  His presentation was on 7 July, alongside president Sousa Cintra, manager Robson and Manuel Fernandes.  Mourinho began discussing tactics and coaching with Robson in his interpreting role. Robson was sacked by the club in December 1993. When Porto appointed him as their head coach, Mourinho moved with him, continuing to coach and interpret for players at the new club.

Wiki on AVB: He has spoken fluent English since childhood, for his grandmother was from Stockport, England.  At the age of 16, Villas-Boas found himself living in the same apartment block as Bobby Robson, who was then manager of FC Porto. Following a conversation between the two, Robson appointed him to Porto's observation department.  Robson arranged for Villas-Boas to obtain the FAcoaching qualification, the UEFA C coaching licence in Scotland and for him to study the training methods of Ipswich Town. He obtained his C licence at the age of 17, and his B licence at 18. He received his A licence at the age of 19, and later acquired UEFA Pro Licence under the tutelage of Jim Fleeting.

    Thanks......i learnt something.

Until today, i thought it was jose who learnt from bobby, then avb who learnt from jose. Clearly not??

AVB lived in the same apartment block as Bobby Robson when he was at Porto and chatted to him and ended up getting a job at Porto, having never played the game professionally!  Unbelievable really

I believe in this case it was Mourinho. (I could be wrong)

But that's not Just luck, as he got his start from sir bobby.

I’m never confident going into any game.  The Championship is unpredictable.  Blackpool (bottom 3) drew with table topping Burnley yesterday.

Why anyone speculates stuff like “must get 6 from the next two” or “if we can get 7 from the next 3” I don’t know.  It’s futile really.

I take the approach, especially with the club we currently are, we start with a point, try not to lose that, as every point, is a point gained.

Would sit here today and take a boring as **** nil-nil on Tuesday.

Thanks for that ..... Lottery numbers is a better way to be spot on you know?

Laura Woods for one, not saying she hasn't achieved stuff but far less than many male footballers - you may see no problem with that but for me, she's there purely because she's a Woman and like I say, it's box-ticking

She started as a runner in 2009.

Youtube darts interviews was considered her big break

She then did her own video blog, sent it to her boss, thought it would get ripped apart, but they loved it.

She's more than earnt her right to be absolutely anywhere, and she started at the very bottom at that.

    ..........

Besides, even if you were correct, how are people ever supposed to be experienced enough to be there, if never given a chance in the first place.

The only one of those I'm worried about is Luton. I'm quietly confident about the next three games...

Although, as @The turtlewill attest, last time I made such a prediction, it went hideously hideously wrong.

and then we went and took 4 ******* points.

So, which of the presenters weren't there on merit?

Laura Woods? Vastly experienced sports presenter with a wealth of knowledge of football, and an excellent presenting style?

Ian Wright? Huge number of appearances at the highest level of football, and over a decades experience as a pundit?

Roy Keane? No, wait, he's a white male so presumably is automatically qualified, so can't be him.

As always ... Hate it when your point is beyond on the money.
