I’d quite enjoy the winning but the turgid style of play, constant moaning at refs under NW? Not so much.

Although I have to say I quite warm to him off the pitch.

It's not like we're playing free flowing football currently though, and haven't for quite time.

Most city fans have a dna of not winning the Warnock way, i feel it. Problem is, we're getting boring football lacking identity anyway (only city could have a young side who are somehow boring but that's another story)

I don't know why they bother with this stuff anymore, they are not very "tech savvy" are they? I won't be the only one "popping to Italy or Germany for the day". :)

Exactly , amazing how often I've been back to the UK to watch the world cup.

We haven't scored twice in 12 league games?

We've scored twice in 5 league games after the 2-0 win at West Brom.

We have conceded 5 in 5 which is an improvement.

We haven't been playing that badly on the whole in the league, we're creating chances and the goals will come again.

    Poorly phrased

I meant , scored more than 1 goal twice in 12 games (Preston , wba)

  4. The last few games , I feel like the elephant in the room is slowly growing.

You know that sign of a promotion team is how they pick up points playing badly. Well right now city aren't picking up wins playing well.(in my opinion one of the worst feelings in sport)

A relegation dog fight is right there,

We've gone from a team who scored for fun but conceded far too many ,to a team who have scored twice in 12 league games.

Performances are nice , and yes normally results follow, but they need to follow soon.

Right now - performance wise it shows what the team is. A mix of good and bad. Never knowing which is coming in any half.

Really hope those first 3 or 4 games come out flying, failing that just win ugly. Points on board is all that matters. (obviously)

While I agree with a lot of this post Robbored, I'm still unconvinced by the argument that the Atyeo has excellent acoustics. It's pedantic and I think they are probably the best in the ground in the modernised form but I doubt that they are excellent in their own right.

Before the new rebuilt. It was considered a death trap for atmosphere.

Due to typical wind direction , and the fact it holds nothing in

It's funny it's now seen as an atmosphere mecca.

Nearly Every home teams fans say the same , it’s just how it is away fans are nearly always more vocal than home fans unless the home team are 2 or 3 goals to the good .

    out will come

is this a library & where’s your famous atmosphere blah blah blah

don’t think we are any better or any worse than the majority of other teams

Stoke, the game when so close to promotion to the prem. Probably the only time I've heard genuinely genuinely loud home fans.

I was massively taken aback at the time, like wow that's loud.

We didn't manage a shot on target in over 100 minutes today.

What makes you think an extra 5 mins would make much difference..?

I don't, but whether or not a team has managed a shot on target shouldn't factor in to time added on.

Using that logic , ref should just blow on 90, due to 0 shots on target.

Part of the game now and every team does it including us, unless you're Man City

Solution is to play 60 min games with the clock stopping at every foul every offside and every time the ball goes out

It's part of the game because players know, no matter how bad they act .. The additional time is never even close. Be surprised if it's even 50%. If they knew there was no gain , probably would not do it half as much as would be no point.

I didn’t think they were too bad to be fair - seen much worse.

Totally seen worse . But that last 30 mins they were horrible . Don't think 5 mins was close to enough.

  8. Something that gets talked about a lot. Many solutions, ball in play 70 min games , etc etc.

Today was a great example of why time should be taken out of the referees hands and given to another official.

10-12 mins would not have been a shock today. I've seen slight improvements this season , but today was silly.

The sooner we start getting up to 10-15 mins added on, the sooner players stop bother to waste it.

Really felt reading were the worst I've seen at it in a while , absolutely everything was taking forever. However , the fact is they beat the referee as only gave 5  mins means well done to them

  9. Sometimes you read things in football that can be simultaneously depressing and uplifting.

I mean why, talk about striking terror into children for no reason. It's nothing short of a disgrace. What on earth was going through the man's head.

However, the fact enough people stood up and said , no this is not right. Just shows there are many decent people everywhere.

I hope the kids aren't put off going, nor you taking them.

I really hope the club look into this matter further , much much further.

  10. i think when you judge it on this alone, this one knock into the box you will look and think why is he coming?

However context is important, they were winning first and second balls in the box, they really could have scored 5 or 6 from those crosses into the box.
Time and again ball was flashing wide etc etc.

He'd clearly taken the premeditated decision to remove the issue at source.

On the face of it it seems a careless keeper mistake , but in the context of the game it was the result of the defence losing the defensive aerial battle , by some way, and a keeper trying to fix that.

I'm not saying he made the right call, just that if we looked in anyway secure he doesn't come.

For me, that (notwithstanding the shout) was a bad call by Max to come. Video below - I don’t know exactly when he shouts keepers, but facts remain:

    - It’s dropping very close to the edge of the box, and he can’t judge if it’s in or out when he comes

    - He has three defenders there. You can argue they should move, but the counter argument is he can see they have it covered and are better positioned than him

    - He should punch and not try and catch there once he’s come

What I think may have happened here is Max has seen the criticism of sticking to line and made a decision to come out more. Nothing wrong with that, but it was totally the wrong decision

On a side note, I find it bizarre that most have said what Max had over Bents is ability at feet but he’s consistently gone longer and percentage balls in the last two games. Clearly instructions but is bizarre.

On the plus side, on the first goal I thought Max made a great initial save and got up for second phase quickly but was let down by defence. However, I remain unconvinced overall and don’t think he is the long term answer.

Having just watched the You Tube highlights what strikes me about the commentary and not Carey’s comments is that the commentator is so behind with his reaction to a goal!  There’s little emotion and excitement!  Is he like Downsey - another rugby fan working in football?

    Have to say

Last night was the first time i noticed a delay between commentary and actions

For two goals , was clear to hear the fans cheering before the ball was in the net, shot taken.

I've never heard that before ...

But it happened noticeably for two goals last night.

It's as though sometimes it's not 100% in sync . Talking a second or so.

  13.

A coach at a Premier League side told me a story of his manager being convinced by their data department to operate a high line against a team with a notably quick forward, despite a first-choice centre-back having to be replaced by a veteran who was just returning from injury and hadn’t been quick on the turn even in his pomp

They conceded three within 30 minutes and lost 3-0, but the analysts justified their advice by pointing out their team had won the xG. But that was because, as the coach angrily replied, having scored with three early chances, the other team had no need to attack. They sat back, conserved energy and weren’t much bothered if they conceded a couple of half-chances: the game was over with an hour remaining. That’s not to say that xG is not a very useful tool – it is – merely that it doesn’t always give the whole picture.

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2022/sep/17/football-tacticians-bowled-over-by-quick-fix-data-risk-being-knocked-for-six

The problem with Xg isn't so much that fans use it. It's more it's only useful if you've watched the game and understand how the game script played out.

Between now and November 1st, we have 6 games, of which 4 of them are at home.

I think pre season, many fans would look at the games and have felt we would have said 9pts from these 6 fixtures would be achievable and not unrealistic.

The position we find ourselves in, is that the next 6 games will mean we will have played 19 games and therefore we would be near enough at the mid point of the season.
To not be in a relegation dogfight, you would hope that you would have at least 22pts on the board, anything below that is relegation form.

Our goal difference of -1 is better than all bar one of the teams below us, and level with the other, so in many ways if we sure up our defence, we should have some advantage over the teams below us.

That said we are 4pts ahead of West Brom and Huddersfield, who many will have argued should or would not likely find themselves in this position. With new managers and maybe a bit of form, you would fancy them to turn their season's around, and not be relegation candidates.

I personally feel the next 6 games will define our season.

We face only West Brom who are below us, and play 8th, 13th, 5th, 6th and 1st in that order in the other games.

Whilst pre season, it could have been expected to draw 9pts or thereabouts from these 6 fixtures, any less than 7pts would likely leave us in a position where a relegation battle is upon us.

For me Wednesday is crucial, we have to stop the rot, a 0-0 draw would actually be a good result but Preston will be full of confidence. Millwall are never easy, and West Brom away will be tough. The next three after this, will be extremely tough.

Being optimistic I would say a draw against Preston, and Millwall, before a loss to West Brom, a draw at Reading (a team we often do well against), before defeats to Swansea and Sheffield United. The way we are playing, this is all I can see us getting at best, which means after 19 games, we may only have 18pts.

This isn't meant to come across all doom and gloom, but the fact is, we have looked poor in our last three games, the defence is held together by a shoe-string. Weimann has gone missing, and our midfield is very ineffective at times. It comes to something when we are missing Matty James, a player who overall has been very poor for us, except on the odd occasion.

I hope we can turn this around and get the 7-9pts we realistically need from these fixtures, but I think that most fans will agree, that any less than 7pts from the next 6, and we are in a relegation battle.

    That's being optimistic . Jeez.

My Brother in Law and mate went to the Derby game I missed. They said the fans mixed in the bars and ground, even for that one. No sign of trouble.

The northern Spain derbies are all so so different

Vigo v Coruña = the whole stadium sings the galician anthem pre game. Then it's not uncommon to see players not in the squad from Galicia in the stands given the opposition fans plenty of abuse. It's spicy but rarely trouble

Oviedo v gijon = this is the Derby, they really hate each other. Lots of trouble. It's up there with seville betis. Really have to watch yourself going to this game: when I went to gijon  Oviedo basketball came on tv, the bar owner nearly put the tv out the window.

Bilbao v sociedad = band of brothers derby. Just so much respect between the two sets of fans. Socidad have also never played a game without one home based playerz and take great pride in youth ,They are just a lot more flexible in who they sign , but just as much pride in being basque.

Catalán Derby: wow to every español fan. Talk about commited to the cause. For barca fans, politics is part of sport. For español fans, the basic rule is don't talk about politics. They are heavily outnumbered, they don't sell out the derby, but for those who do support español, they see themselves as what football is supposed to be. Iniesta is the one barca player they will always respect (if you don't know look up why, it.is a cool story

    .............................

P.s  I've seen Barcelona fans in the Atlético ends which was more than tolerated. Accepted even.  Like shirt on open display

I've seen United fans do it , celebrate a goal and no issue.

What they won't tolerate is real Madrid fans doing it. When they try , out the stadium you go

Was chatting with @77 punk at the game in midweek (well, it was pretty dull at times, wasn’t it?) & we were talking about Kane Wilson making the step up of two divisions & clearly finding it tough so far.

We were trying to think of anyone who had made the 2 division leap (so from L2 to Championship) for us & made an immediate impact & could only come up with Albert Adomah who joined from Barnet, & let’s face it, was just brilliant & it appears a one off.

I’m really struggling to identify anyone else, most who have settled in straight away have come up one division from L1 (like Rob Atkinson, for instance) or from L2 when we were a L1 club ourselves, can anyone think of any others?

Noble ? (came from Barnet , though granted a bit dif )

Note :i was all kinds of wrong

  17. First I have to say the commentary is much much better than it the beginning.

However , when on Saturday with city 2 down they started talking about all the goals younger age group players are banging in, it was laptop out the window time. In the end i had to watch on mute.

    Mostly it's ok now.

But sometimes they really do fail to read nevermind understand the room.
