Is finishing consistently higher than we have for 40 years not considered success?
When Lansdown took over we were mid table in the championship. Since then we have reached and lost a playoff final, been relegated, got back into the championship and are now back to being mid table in the championship. I personally don’t consider that a success, it’s continuity if you’re positive and stagnation if you’re cynical.
It’s not all doom and gloom of course, we’ve got a great academy, training ground and pitch. We also haven’t gone bust, despite trying our best at times, but that’s surely the minimum requirement of a football club/business owner.

I am sure at home games you must enjoy attending the Gate? Who do you think was responsible and the driving force for what has happened in BS3?
fact is SL has supported every manager he's had… get all foundations right rest will fall in place..That’s been said for years now, still waiting.
Don’t think anyone can dispute Lansdown’s major improvements for the infrastructure of the club, unfortunately it doesn’t matter much if it’s not resulting in success on the pitch. Unfortunately we’re yet to see any bar a cup run and winning a league we shouldn’t have ever been in.

24 hours in Bournemouth and his knee’s gone already.

Attack minded midfielder desperately, unless Knight can play every minute for the rest of the season.
New contracts for Conway and Bell are desperately needed too.

Whilst I'm realistic enough to know we won't be spending crazy money, surely we're in the clear enough with FFP to bring in 1-2 players this summer? I can accept sales like this if we're proactive and use the money to move forward but if the club end up sitting on a lot of it, and don't then start retaining future stars, then this is quickly going to become tedious.

Reckon they will be ok this season don't see them getting relagated.
Scott will only be there for a season he's that good.
He’ll spend at least this season and next there. Doubt he’ll be signing anything less than a 4 year deal.

Bournemouth have zero potential and will be plummeting down the leagues in the next few years.
It worries me that city show even less ambition. Once again City and its players kick the fans in the teeth.
Based on what? Them being less successful than us in the past?
They seem to have some good money behind them now, think they’ll be there to stay for the foreseeable future unfortunately.

But but pearson doesn’t lie about injuries!
£20m+ so might not be £25m. How did they do that without getting a seat at the table?!
Could be 20 plus 5 million in add ons.

Need to invest in a midfielder badly then.

Striker probably the wrong term but we do play a front three - so that includes Sykes, Mehmeti, Cornick. I think it does show that if Scott goes we do need another body for the reason you state but it’s nowhere near the level of panic I’m seeing so far
That’s the point though, we don’t have lots of depth through the middle unless Weimann covers or we move Bell over. If Weimann moves over the midfield starts looking very thin. Not convinced Bell can do that job but I’d love him to prove me wrong.
I don’t think we need to panic until the window closes and we know where we are as a squad. We really need one more for depth in midfield but we can cope barring complete disaster on the injury front.

There’s a few things I don’t understand about people’s reactions here. Pole vaulting to conclusions that Dave Rennie is the antichrist is one. The other is that Tommys injury somehow necessitates a signing.
As at right now, we have 5 fit strikers for 3 positions. Weimann is clearly borderline fit so that’s nearly 6 for 3. People may not rate one or more of the 5 fit strikers, but if they are part of our squad (and 3 got in ahead of TC on Saturday) then why would we need to make another signing?
Add into this, Scott is supposed to be fit for Saturday. Benarous on the way back. Weimann, as I said, was borderline Saturday. You’re then looking at 3 of the 7 back within 2-3 weeks. McCrorie we don’t know as yet, ditto Kal. But if you look at it reasonably, we have (confirmed) two players in Rob and Tommy who are out for a reasonable length. That doesn’t seem unusual in a squad of 26. Particularly when most injuries are different as opposed to, as stated, all hammies.
Or we could all panic and just burn the witch. Your call.
Weimann currently covering Scott in midfield, so if/when he leaves we’ll need another body in midfield for Weimann to provide depth through the middle.
We don’t have 6 strikers do we? Conway, Wells, Weimann and who? Can Bell play regularly in the championship as the striker and perform?
I agree we don’t need another striker but this does exacerbate the need for one more player (minimum) in midfield otherwise we’re trying to cover multiple positions with the same player.

Not just us, probably 50 other sides in the EPL/EFL. At least we have a few coming back in the next week or so.
People need to calm down a bit.
Got to get the injury excuses in early if we end up having a tough season.

Defended well. Dickie looks solid to me.
Negatives are we were very predictable when we chose to build through the midfield and most of the time chose to bypass them entirely.

Ran out of Goat Curry before half time as well. Been looking forward to that all pre season and after that first half I needed a pick me up!

Agree with others, knocking it long to Wells, Bell and Cornick is atrocious to watch and only going to result in Preston winning the ball back.
Will be interesting what adjustments Pearson makes for Milwall.
-
Long season ahead if we don’t invest in some creativity in midfield when Scott goes.

A very dreary reality check. If we play like that every week we won’t progress from last season.
-
Can anyone give any improvements from last season based on today?
-
Very lethargic again. Not much urgency going forward and dopey at the back. Hope city prove me wrong last few minutes

Knocking it long to Wells is an interesting tactic.

Get what you’re saying, but this division looks incredibly difficult this year, more than ever.
Does it? Looks as it does every year to me: competitive. I completely understand the context of Pearson’s time here and fully appreciate the progress we’ve made off the field but it’s not a massive ask to finish above 14 sides given we’re now into his third season at the club.
The squad is perfectly capable of finishing in the top ten and I can’t really think of an excuse for us not to. Happy to be convinced otherwise though.

I don't understand the Arsenal comparisons, it's a reproduction of a classic City shirt! Yes it has white sleeves but we've copied our own shirt not another club's.
