I disagree. Bake it in the oven at 250 degrees C for one hour twenty minutes. Leave to cool for twenty four hours. Apply one coat of yacht varnish, diluted with turps at 50%, followed by another three undiluted coats with a minimum of four hours between coats. Leave for twenty four hours. At this point bring out the pledge and polish to your hearts content.

    This sounds quite artistic

King will probably go in the summer but why would we get rid of James?

I thought james was looking decent at the start of the season, but he is starting to look increasingly poor,,, he has a history of fitness issues which have continued here, offers little forward threat, not much in the way of defensive cover, and no one is offering much leadership. We looked much more accomplished in midfield with an 18 year old and 20 year old when he was out.

Nope, especially if some would have you believe he was on a "few hundred quid a week" !!

Yes, why on earth would he sign here at the end of his career for a few hundred a week when the cost of living in bristol will be more than that?

one of the stranger of our signings, but the overall cost has been negligible compared to the cost of palmer, wells, fam etc etc

Yes, the signings of Simpson and King were laughable. And I'm not being wise after the event. I said it at the time.

Yes, baker was always a risk too. And we spent 2 million on 2 lower league defenders who may or may not work out, but havent made much of an impact.

I still don't think he's right for us whilst there are some improvements there's also alot of worrying steps back

Yeah im inclined to agree. I dont really see how suddenly in august our defence will be fixed and we might get to see some consecutive wins. We just arent set up to stop crosses coming in and stop goals going in. For that tough a character, discipline in defence should be the pre requisite of everything he stands for.

Probably worth considering not playing a back three.

I dont think it matters how many we play back there, there is no appetite to actually defend and be hard to beat. We have 2 experienced international centre backs now, a decent championship keeper behind them, and it still makes no difference!

Our better players had unusually poor games today, never seen Williams look that sluggish before, HNM was anonymous, Semenyo sloppy in possession.

A game to forget and fair play to Forest who looked a good side, don't forget they have beaten much better sides than us this season. They should be the benchmark for where we want to be in 12 months time

They brought in a decent manager didnt they?

why oh why does every pass to Dasilva go to his right foot so his movement has to be back towards our goal.

Why can't Klose pass it on to his left foot in front of him (opposition player permitting) to allow him to move onto the ball on his favoured foot!?

Hes a multi million pound footballer, surely he should use his right foot for more than just standing on?!

    He makes me sick.

Exceptional footballer, slim, hair, on a decent wage and can move back to a tax haven when all said and done.

He can and will go on to huge things. He's ahead of Massengo for me in terms of assets and potential.

And I'm so old and bitter.

Yep, me too, i tell my mrs hes my adopted son, what a player

I don't think your trying to get some idea of whose responsibility it was that the collapse was that bad at all

I believe you are just trying to whip it up I'll  feeling towards the magnificent 8 and on this forum

Either go dig up all the stories surrounding this sad era, it's not hard with Google, or join the majority in thanking these guys and the club for what was done over the weekend.

Your continual digs regarding the players performance at the time.serves no.purpose

Im not really looking to, and i dont believe i have the ability to whip up ill feeling amongst a support numbering tens of thousands, but im trying to understand the situation that happened 40 years ago, which is current news as they were all on the pitch at the weekend.

I think key players losses like Gow….then Harford etc, together with the players getting older had an affect.

@Curr Avon can you add more?

Cool, if this was our current squad that got us relegated to league 2, the level of animosity towards them would be unbelievable, yet thats not how the 8 are remembered.

I understand the levels of salary arent the same as now, but they were still making a good living, yet some of them, in some form, must have been horrifically underperforming?

No, in virtually all cases their careers petered out.  Poor old Trev Tainton ended up suffering having to play half a dozen games in the same team as me!!! ???

Id have to look it all up, I know Sweeney went to York, Trev to Torquay with Rodgers, Merrick to Hong Kong, think Mann might’ve gone to somewhere like Barnsley.  Others will rattle it off for you.

Thanks,, how instrumental were they in the successive relegations? Is it fair to say At least some of these players were part of a squad with one of the worst records ever in english football?

I did that first time around ???

Me too. I took my dad (80) yesterday, so it took me back to standing on his toolbox in the away end with my bruv.  Was nice for him to be with me and Joe.

Fevs. I wasnt old enough to attend until the mid 80s, but obviously the story of the 8 is well known…. Ive always been a little confused about the role played by the 8 in the successive relegations,, were they all key members of the squad who went from 1st division to 4th? Did any of them, as free agents, go back up the leagues?

If Fulham spend more on there attack than there defence then they will be coming straight back down.

He would fit Palace quite nicely unfortunately.

I think hes made for palace!

Exactly and very true between all of them put us back to square one .

I have been critical of pearson in the past, but i called out jon lansdown on another thread the other day about his comments, what did he really expect would happen this season?!

however, at the point of the man united victory, up until the wolves game in the league, not many on here would have considered us being back to square 1,, we were playing at a level that had evolved past the promotion side at that point..

We couldnt sustain it through to the end of the season and then the big money sales started, but the square 1 comment doesnt really ring true for me.

Thought he came across well. He’s right to acknowledge that he expected us to be doing better.  Can’t remember whether he said that on the Radio or the Post article.
