  1. I suspect a lot of clubs are intending to make do with free signings over the next few years, so it should be possible to operate on that basis for a while. I would love for us to be able to shift some of the highest earners through that period, but that looks quite unlikely.

Have you ever walked across that park after a night game? It’s dark. The picture that shows the fans on the park, at night, you wouldn’t be able to see each other there. A 3pm kick off and it would’ve been dark after the game. The fact the old bill made this an early kick off has hilariously backfired on them ?

Lots of police around today. Lots of private security. But you’re happy for them to carry on and smash the place up.
Do that in your local pub and you’ll have 3 wagons of coppers on you in 5 minutes. But as it’s in a football stadium you think it should just carry on?

No it shouldnt carry on, get the police in to sort it out, but if you are a steward stood in that stand with 15 lads smashing up a toilet what exactly would you do

Ok. Just let them smash the place up then yeah?
What are the stewards, security and police there for?

Would you have run in that toilet with 20 of those idiots smashing it up? All for a tenner an hour on a Saturday afternoon?

Don’t think anyone has been in doubt. On his day he is a good player at this level but he cannot be flogged week in week out. A tired fatigued Chris Martin is horrendous and painful to watch.

Credit to Nige for bringing him back into the team in a game that suited him. Use him sparingly and he is a great asset.

Completely agree, getting him to play 25 straight games isnt really an option, but having him around the squad to come in and out he is very useful to have around

Petr Cech wore head gear pretty much until he stopped playing I think. Was after the accident where he suffered that horrendous injury with the wolves(?) player.

Yeah, horrific injury,  and jiminez at wolves last year. Their injuries were skull fractures, which bakers wasnt as far as we know,,, i assume baker and specialists have been all over invesitgating this

Maybe people should be a bit nicer in the way the dismiss other people’s thoughts….

If you check my initial thoughts on bakinson which you quoted above, the way i replied was entirely respectful of your view and gave my opinion on why i thought he wasnt a disgrace….

Hes not a disgrace,, he clearly is a talented ball player in a team where not many players are very good with the ball… box to box power house of a midfielder he aint, in a decent team who can keep possession he would probably show up pretty well.

I have since had you quoting it back at me several times on several different threads… but now you take offence at the way people dismiss your thoughts?

to be honest, the subject of bakinson and your opinion of him is of relatively little consequence to my life, and doesn’t warrant any more of my time

  7. Just seen a thread along these lines on social media, so thought i would a thread on here to take us down memory lane!

Ive been watching since the 80s so missed the 70s glory days, but based on what ive seen since id go with:

basso, webster, brownhill, jacki and cole.

obviously gow and atyeo would come into the reckoning, but i never saw them play!

any alternatives? Im sure there are a lot im missing, like tammy, bryan, newman, walsh, taylor etc etc?!

We have progressed because the club have thrown millions at the right things.  A proper infrastructure (not just a stadium but also the training facility and an extensive behind the scenes hierarchy.) For this reason, I'm genuinely more worried we will lose our head of recruitment to Newcastle than of losing Yves Bissouma in the summer.

I always looked at Bristol City as a club who are going in the right direction, but then you brought in Nigel Pearson who seemed a baffling appointment.  Mind you, success at a football club doesn't begin and end with the manager these days, that's for sure.  There's no doubt that clubs like our two clubs can compete at the top level simply by being very well run.

Theres no doubt that brighton and brentford are the 2 clubs that we need to be emulating, but the way we are run has been a shambles,,, so many clubs have got to the top flight, who in theory are similar in size to us, but we are miles away. Its good to see though that clubs can do it and be successful, it ought to give us something to aspire to!

What?! Trying to join in the conversation. Apologies if I’ve spoken out of turn.

At the risk of this being a “whooosh” comment,,, he was taken to hospital twice in a month with serious head injuries and hasnt been near the playing squad since and nige has confirmed he wont play again this season….

  10. Saw this earlier on social media, i went to school with al, and used to go out for drinks with him for a number of years,,, as well as going to city games. He was always fun loving and was the biggest city fan i ever knew. Rest in peace big al

Completely agree. There is no conundrum at all in my opinion. He’s done absolutely nothing to remotely warrant a new contract and time and again has failed to prove any potential.

Its been almost six years now. The likes of Alex Scott have done more than he’s done in six months!

First person to let go in the summer in my view.

Have to agree, the guy had everything it needs to succeed, but it just doesnt happen,,, im sure hes making a great living too, and that money should be invested better elsewhere

What still annoys me is why MA didnt sell Diedhiou 18 months ago when he was still a saleable asset. It was obvious at the time that Fam wasn't going to sign a new deal and run his contract down.  Maybe we could have got £1m for him but MA said that he was more value to us on the pitch rather than being sold. Well although £1m is peanuts in football terms these days, that money might have come in very handy.

Yes, and also, if watford bid 8 million for massengo in the summer, who in their right mind would turn that down?

Think that's a harsh call tbh. Did you think that Alex Scott was YEARS AWAY when Pearson dragged him off after 25 minutes of one game earlier in the season?

Also, pring is how old now?? 24? Being able to compete in the championship at towlers age is extremely difficult,, i think technically hes good enough but in terms of concentration and experience he needs lots of games to build up to it,,, he might have a similar pathway to pring to get there,  but im fairly comfortable that he will be a good player for us in the years to come

The QPR game was where I saw green shoots. Quick intricate play, good movement, creating chances, good passing etc.

The signs are definitely there. We just need that self belief to go on and finish the opposition when on top.

Yes, me too,, its not chris martins fault hes been flogged for 5 months, but having semenyo back suddenly gives us energy going forwards that can almost match weimanns, and must be a nightmare to play against! Shame about joe williams, and the money pissed up the wall by previous regimes, but relying on youth players has enabled us to stumble across some energy and passion… now if we could just get some defensive organisation going….

    We`d be ****** without him.

Yep, i thought in years past that his lack of footballing “skill/touch” marked him as one to move on,,, however what he gives in sheer bloody minded energy and leading from the front is irreplaceable at this point.
