An interesting listen until Ian Gay mentioned extending the year on ODowdas deal. Absolute lunacy, another potential year on pre-covid wages on one of our biggest disappointments would be a terrible decision in my opinion.

Wasn’t the rumour he’d been offered a new deal on hugely reduced terms? Either way, I hope we shake hands and part ways in the summer.

There are many examples of clubs who have been relegated from the premier league since parachute payments were introduced and have never made it back - eg Reading, Brum, Bolton, Huddersfield, Blackburn, Derby, Cardiff, Swansea, Hull, QPR etc etc

How many of those clubs had the same average wage bill as Fulham have had this season? Or Everton probably will have? Or even Newcastle had?
I also don’t think you can compare Cardiff, for example, being relegated to Everton. I agree that getting Cardiff straight back up would be a great achievement. Getting Everton up at the first attempt wouldn’t be  anywhere near as difficult.

No such thing as a ‘free promotion’ - especially from the fifth best division in the world - any club who gets promoted from the championship has done extremely well and a huge amount of the credit for that should be shoved the way of the manager - this division is not easy to get out of ...

Yeah fair play to Fulham, they really had to grind this season out. All with Mitrovic barely scraping 40.

I think people feel threatened by it.  But with all data / statistics stuff, you’ve got to understand how it’s created, it’s context etc, and present it in the right way.  In some cases it shows up people’s bias, and they don’t like it.  But football is a fluid game and you’ll never be able to be as statistical as say baseball where the same “event” is repeated, e.g. a pitch.

Everyone loves a stat…. Until it makes you look like a tit. Then they’re called spreadsheets and are suddenly irrelevant.

We are actually in the bottom third and the bottom quarter. We are also in the bottom half. Apart from that I agree with the rest of your post.

Really can't decide which one of Everton v Man Utd I want to lose most.

Lampard was good player so must be a good coach ......... right ?

I want to say Man Utd. Relegation for Everton would probably mean seal clubbing in the Championship, next season. Also Lampard, if still there, would get a practically free promotion on his C.V.

Barnstaple on a BH Monday (Easter) for Les Phillips Cup semi was a lovely journey, with all that holiday traffic, I can tell you.

(got gobbed on by one of their fans as I warmed up)

Had a pint of milk launched over me at Bideford away once. Hair stank for a week.  Hated the fixture.

So with all the top notch honours they’ve won, why would you have Villa ‘fighting for 20th place’ in the ‘who deserves to be in the premier league’ mythical table?

Because it would boil their piss, along with Sunderland and Forest and make for a much spicier fight.

I was at Spurs last night. Everton were really dreadful, could have been 8-0. Lampard's tactics were woeful and thinking Allan or whatever his name is could cover both Kane and Son dropping deep was delusional. Also, I've not seen a player give up like Richarlson in a very long time, embarrassing.

You only have to look back to this time last season and much, much closer to home.
