Please Weimann put your energy into defending and don't keep running up front and we might be okay. MIGHT be okay, but probably won't! ?

You seem to have some sort of strange obsession about Weimann’s defending.

We have many issues to sort , but Weimann’s ‘defending’ isn’t one of them.

Maybe you’ve missed his constant work

pressing and pressurising opponents , high up the pitch . ( Look at our first v Reading just for example)

Id rather he do that and be part of a counter than be running backwards for most of the game

I wouldn't believe Pearson used to be a defender.

Our defence is calamitous continuously, practically amateurish. How they are not embarrassed with themselves I will never know. A shit player is a shit player I guess, but what the hell do they do in training every week? For this entire season?

A portion of the blame has to go to Pearson, and on those training. To see it look so bad, no improvements. And there has been signings at the back. Simpson, Atkinson, Tanner, Klose. Some maybe injured now, they have all played. Still laughably embarrassing defensively though and have been all season. Pathetic.

Our attackers are stepping up. Its the clowns at the back. Pathetic.

Interesting how Antoine said he’s learned from Marin and Weimann and how they’ve helped him

Unfortunately Kalas is no leader and actually seems quite insular - Many still laud him but I’m not sure he’d be a great loss

The fact he, before the arrival of Klose was our only experienced fit defender doesn’t help

Having said that - after something like 150 appearances in Vyner shouldn’t need his hand holding

He has been chucking "unnamed"  players under the bus and then picking the same side for the next game from the moment he came in.

    Interesting motivational technique.

Johnson did it for over 4 years , often naming the players of course

If that’s a qualification to have an opinion at Championship level, then…no I don’t think he has for a centre-back. (And thanks too)

@Shufflewill tell you I wasn’t a dirty CB by any stretch (at all?), but I knew how to defend, I knew when to be physical, I knew the danger scenarios, and sometimes I’d wrap my arm around (not in a way to give away a penalty) my striker early in the phase just to keep him close to me or stop him darting across or in behind me.  Better 6 inches away from that 6 foot.  I played against players who everytime I checked my shoulder for where the ball was, that was when they moved.  So I’d rather keep them close to me, with a subtle protective arm limiting where they could move next.

I think Zak defends those situations in a very naive way for someone with so many games at this level.  Shame.

Absolutely, thanks - interested in your view

He is extremely vulnerable when he’s the far post of the three ch’s - yes there’s danger you can see in front of you , but most of the time the danger in that situation the player coming from behind you

I appreciate movement is much better at that level but , being blunt , if you were manager of Bris say , and had a centre half regularly caught out as he does , you’d tear your hair out , and replace if he doesn’t learn  , wouldn’t you ?

If he has any hope at this level I’d be working my ass off on my full back skills

Little point in writing in such definite terms when you can’t possibly know

You could be right knowing SL

Rip up the plan and try a new one , maybe reinstall Boy wonder

The fact that Pearson has reduced the spend significantly , introduced and developed, and increased value in  a number of Academy players and will safely keep us in the Championship , probably ticks a few boxes atm with Uncle Steve

    But I could be wrong

Having not made RB his own early season, he is clearly a squad player, who will play when others aren’t available.  He’s 24, up to him to now decide whether he wants to max his career at this level or settle back for something a bit easier.  Shame, as Nige says, he’s got ability, but you do have to have the desire to make the most of it.

My analogy….in 2016/17 was there much, if any difference between O’Dowda and Brownhill?  No, not really.  One pushed himself, the other didn’t.

    Over to you Zak.

As an ex defender at decent amateur level - do you think Zak has some basic requirements for this level Dave , and I’m thinking danger awareness , space / picture perception ?

The number of times players steal yards on him at the crucial moment , is staggering tbh after so many games

In my view if you havnt got it or havnt learnt it by now , you are unlikely to have it anythime soon
The fact he repeatedly repeats the same error is shocking tbh

The number of times attackers get across him , and if they don’t out think him they overpower him is a red flag to me

He will get found out as a defender at any pro level if he doesn’t improve these areas

Cheers for that he mentions going twice in that then.

    Under pressure then.

Hopefully we can do something vs Middlesbrough..

despite you praying he gets the push

There isn’t a chance SL is anywhere near considering it

    Unlucky

He knows how to push fans' buttons, does Pearson. Plays up to his image as a no-nonsense hard man.

He had a clearout last summer but apparently he needs another one.

A less famous manager would have been sacked a while ago.

Maybe you’ve missed large chunks of relevant news

But the clear out , and who ,was to a large degree dictated by finances

Be sure there were others he would have liked to have traded but if no one is interested ... Well that itself speaks volumes

It was his lack of opportunity to spend and replace that was , and is the problem, , and will be for a while yet

He's given people more than their fair share of chances to put things right/improve their game. I think, if anything, he has been too generous but mainly due to the injury situation. If you keep bollocking people or keep putting you arm around people or a mixture of the two and 20 games later they are STILL MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES week in and week out then there is clearly no way of improving them. Today certainly comes across as one defensive shitshow too far and changes have to be made.
