I’m sure we were told by Pearson himself it would take 3 years.

I agree we have been in a mess, but there are no players on 5 year contracts so just don’t understand why people think it could take that long . We have seen a number of times where clubs in dire positions have improved rapidly when they have the right coaching staff in place (Barnsley, Huddersfield, Coventry, Forest to name a couple)

We have to be aiming for top half this year, and we have to be aiming for top 6 in year 3

Jury is still out for me on Pearson. This is a huge season for him we have to say an improvement on a number of things

Compare the number of non-parachute payment clubs who achieve promotion to the PL within 5 consecutive years at this level with the number of clubs that don't. I suspect the likelihood is that statistics will show it isn't even a 5 year job, instead something that just isn't likely to happen at all, those that do are outliers.

In my opinion, Pearson has worked through a period where there was a significant proportion of the squad that didn't totally buy in to what he wanted to do. We now appear to be in a position where they do. He should continue until it is clear they don't anymore (relegation fights notwithstanding). If we just chop and change manager we sentence ourselves to another 3 years of a manager changing a squad to his type of players.

Definitely going from that formation. Sykes in the Weimann role and Wells the Semenyo role. Rest pretty self explanatory. Wonder why Weimann isn't in the 'first' XI? Wanna see Sykes working with the main strikers I suppose.

I imagine Weimann is less in need of minutes having played Nations League internationals last month.

Until the final friendly they will have a target for the number of minutes they want each player to be on the field.

Can I just add that with each potentially decent-looking signing we make in which the CEO is not weirdly and repulsively front of stage, the more I f*cking love Richard Gould?

I mean it's entirely possible for him to speak with the same corporate mumbo-jumbo as Ashton but if he has no interest in taking the limelight then how can we ever know to dislike him? ?

    Keep it up!

If these signings live up to anything near the potential we might have a fun season…We’ll all of us who haven’t been trying to get Pearson sacked in the media social or traditional.

Is Mark Carter on here? Make yourself known ?

  5. Any time you hear Antoine talk about Nige you can see he appreciates the impact Nige is having on his development. My straw grasp is that Antoine sees staying here for a full season under Nige in 22/23 with the 2 or 3 additions we will be able to afford as being better for his career at this stage than coming off the bench in the Prem. He's one Ollie Watkins season away from having a safe Prem Team sign him as their starting striker imo.

Remind me. Why are we supposed to hate Cunningham?

I think he was properly playing up to the crowd when they beat us in his first game back at AG?

(I personally don't mind that, it's pantomime as long as we give some back....but preferable if we win obviously lol)

An interesting Statement by Raith Rovers over the Goodwillie signing

They obviously understood and considered the gravity of what opinion such a signing would make BUT it does beg the question WHY ??? considering the ramifications (losing main sponsor/Directors etc...)

As announced on our website last night, Raith Rovers FC can confirm that we have signed David Goodwillie from Clyde FC.

David is a proven goal scorer, and this will be his second stint with the club, having previously played for us on loan from Dundee United during season 2007-08.

As with all new signings, the club has carefully considered our position as a Community Club and we completely respect the differing views among fans and stakeholders, many of whom we have spoken to directly in the past 24 hours and are continuing to engage with.

As David has previously played for Raith Rovers earlier in his career, we consider him to be part of Raith Rovers Football Club. The management team is familiar with David’s career and background and – in particular – his footballing ability. That is our foremost consideration, and we believe that he will strengthen the Raith Rovers playing squad.

Please be assured that as a community football club we fully acknowledge this signing has divided opinion amongst our loyal fans and commercial stakeholders; We aim to rebuild that trust.

While acknowledging the gravity of what happened ten years ago, as a club we fully support and encourage rehabilitation, and many factors influenced our signing.

First and foremost, this was a football related decision.

A director stepped down, the fans liaison quit, the women's captain left the club, the shirt sponsor cancelled their contract....

Okay maybe I should have added 'since being a pro footballer'. My comparison stands.

The thing I remember about Rashford is early on in his career (I think it was against Liverpool) he scored and was named Man of the Match. In his post match interview, the interviewer asked how he would be celebrating and Marcus replied that he would be going home to revise as he had important A-Level exams coming up. Always had his head screwed on that kid.

I jokingly said last week when we all agree that we shouldn’t have Davies tonight that we’d get Geoff Eltringham instead.  And that’s who we get.

Hes in my crap list…just makes lots of wrong decisions.

Ward on Saturday (right at the bottom of my crap list until Davies replaced him) was ok.  I think Martin’s goal bailed him out of a big decision on Flint when he tripped Weimann through on goal.

I thought it was just outside though so I'm glad he allowed play to continue.

  10. I feel like a watershed moment happened around the time of Pearson's return from his recent illness. My memory is of (hitherto bit-part player) COD coming out to the press in effusive fashion, citing that the players needed to do more and Pearson seeming more determined to freeze out high-earners who had delivered little, more than ever. What's our record from that point? Or is that the same moment?

Think maybe where it is confusing. Think in my original post I ended up putting not enough of the performances. So if we can play similarly to the last couple in more games the last half of the season it will get me more on board.

I have been pretty consistent this season that we can get more from this squad imo. As someone said, the average age of the squad was 23 yesterday. For me that means plenty of room to grow. Sure there will be growing pains like yesterday but was still quite a young squad second half if a bit older. So I agree there are signs just personally like to see it a bit more to finish the season. And for me isn’t necessarily a points thing either. We could get 25-30 points the second half of the season which would be less to same amount. If we perform a bit more consistently I’d view it as momentum for next season.

As you say it's a young squad that should grow. With Atkinson it could be as simple as it being his first season at this level, he's a young player who is going through a rough patch of form and Nigel is trying to keep him around the squad on the bench so he doesn't feel discarded whilst also taking him out of the direct firing line rather than continuing to hammer the lad's confidence. We bought him as much for his potential as what he could immediately bring to the side in my opinion.
